Last summer my vet informed me my welty, itchy, scratchy, hugely uncomfortable mare was allergic to culicoides (gnats). He prescribed something to lessen irritation from the bites and I had to spray her all the time. None of these measures were terribly effective relief for her. Early this year I saw the Bug Lyte and decided to try it. I especially liked that it was a more natural product and it was a PREVENTIVE measure and I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it. No drugs with potentially bad side effects. No potentially poisonous bug sprays. I cannot say enough! The Bug Lyte is MARVELOUS! I have hardly even used the bug repellant sprays. Nor has Sky (the mare) needed the vet's prescription drug for "itch" relief! No welts. No lumps. No itchies. Until a few weeks ago. I ran out of Bug Lyte so I substituted garlic powder alone in her feed. NOT EVEN CLOSE! In less than a month I have a lumpy, bumpy, itchy mare who is just as bad as she was last summer. I live in northeast coastal Florida. We get just about every biting insect you can imagine in our hot, humid climate. Our "bug season" lasts from about March to November. Sometimes longer. (I am not kidding.) I am convinced the Bug Lyte works wonders and is worth every penny I pay for it. I am ordering more RIGHT NOW, and I am making a promise to my poor mare that I won't run out again! One note to pass along, though. Sky absolutely refused her Bug Lyte laced feed in the beginning. Turns out it wasn't the taste, it was the "dust." She didn't like the powder puffing up into her nose. So I make a thin "paste" of Bug Lyte with a little water and molasses and mix it into her [pellet] feed once a day. (Probably not necessary for any naturally "sticky" feed like sweet feed.) She has not turned up her nose at it since! But the bugs sure seem to be turning THEIR noses up at her! I truly NEVER want to run out of this product again!

Use in conjunction with other products such as sprays, and fly sheets, mask, and wraps.
I've been using it for about one month. I noticed a dramatic difference between a friends horse stalled next to my horse who is not using the product. Other horse is only using sprays and covers. My horse barely had a fly on him, and friends horse was swarming. That convinced me the stuff is working.

I've done the math and it is much more cost effective to use this feed thru than to try and put enough fly spray on my horses to keep them fly free. This product also has diatomaceous earth which cuts down on the flies reproducing in the feces. Love it and will continue to purchase as long as you have it in stock.

Tried this as none of the feed thru suppliments helped. Within 3 weeks flies are off the horses and less in the manure as well. Much more economical then fly spray too. Horses are not put off their feed either-must taste ok. dk

I have been using this product for 2 years now and each year I say it is a waste. I can not see that it helps in anyway. I bought 4 jars for my 2 horses that is the only reason I am still using this product.

I have 2 horses that have been on this product for 2 years and I am thrilled with it. My horses are extremely bug sensitive and this product has made it tolerable for them to stay outside and for me to ride during bug season. I am thinking of putting more of my horses on it. It is a great value for the money.

I am returning to order more of this after substituting another product for BugLyte. I had tried BugLyte on a whim, along with Solitude. We have few flies, thanks to Solitude, but the mosquitoes are awful! While on BugLyte, my horse wasn't bothered by much more than gnats. When we ran out, I went to the feed store to buy more. They didn't have BugLyte, but recommended a product that is probably pure garlic powder. Very expensive and not at all effective. My poor horse has been eaten up by the bugs - she has huge welts all over her. I'm going back to BugLyte!

I bought this product for my mare, she is super sensitive to knats and will rub herself raw. I like to put her out at night to keep her dark but couldn't because of the bugs. I have tried other products, this is the first one that truly works, I am buying more for my other horses too.

I've been feeding this to my 4 horses for about 2 months. Although we still have plenty of flies in the barn, I do notice that the flies tend to leave the horses alone. I'm using much less fly spray on the horses than last summer. I believe the product is helping repel the flies from the horses.
