Although I really liked the idea of this product to catch stable flies, I ended up catching at least 5 song birds, 4 of which died stuck to the trap. I had to take them down. If you live in an area with more flies than birds they may work better for you.

Very effective against stable fliew; in order to prevent songbird deaths (as reported by May 08 review), simply cut a circle of 1/4 mesh and surround trap with the mesh. Flies can still get in but birds and bats cannot!

Just finished my 3rd year of using this product. They work great on stable flies (the flies that bite the horses' legs.) I've never had problems with them catching songbirds, I hang the traps behind the barn near the compost pile. They last about a month around here (lower Michigan). I go through about 4 per year.
