My horse has sweet itch and it's been an annoying problem for years. But I bought this sheet after finding out the only way to really stop all the rubbing and irritation from bugs, is to keep him covered. My horse is pretty notorious for tearing and ripping thing up, plus we have barb-wire fencing. I fiqured he'd have it tore up and lost somewhere out in the pasture in a matter of days, but he's been wearing it for 5 months. I am completely satisfied with this blanket and it I have to buy him a new one every six months, thats better than him having no tail or mane. I haven't had a problem with the tie in the back until just now and guess he caught it on something and it ripped the sides of the sheet where they tie through. So I'm getting him another one and feel its worth it, if he has a mane and tail for once!

I originally bought this sheet for my 29 year old gelding who has issues with Sweet Itch in the Spring-Fall. So far, he wears it from about sun up to sun down, off at night because he is in a stall. He has one rip in it and I expected it to not stay perfect as this horse loves to scratch and roll. He is able to freely roll, lay down, run and kick up his heels with my mares as he wishes. I feel that this sheet is making a huge difference in the scratching that he endured last season. He no longer runs full out to the barn just to scratch and he still has a mane and tail so far! And his coat has never looked healthier. I am happy with my purchase and feel that I will likely be purchasing 3 more sheets for my mares soon.

I use this product on just one of my five horses. She is an endurance horse who is in turnout 24/7 - and just happens to be allergic to fly bites. This is the third year, and third sheet I've bought for her. Each sheet has lasted through 8 months of non-stop sun, rain, rolling and horse play. They will tear slightly if there's a nail that catches - but are easily mended with a needle and thread. But if you have barbed wire or rough wood plank fencing or trees that are kept limbed up (or shelters/stalls that are in need of maintenance) I wouldn't recommend this sheet - or any sheet for that matter. But in a full-sun, obstacle-free, mesh/field fence/electric fenced pasture setting - these sheets can handle the work 24/7!
BTW, I do recommend using them in conjunction with an earless fly mask. They secure on much better by being strapped through the mask. And you don't have to risk leaving a halter on this way.

Bought this last summer for 4 yr Black & White gelding who looked like one big bug bite. Too big then. He's 5 now and fits now. He has been wearing it for 5 or 6 weeks, 24/7, in a pasture with 2 other geldings who play very rough. I straighten at AM & PM feeding only, shifts 2 or 3 inchs. It's still in good shape, washes good. Does need work on butt strap. Oh yea, he has no bug bites and is BLACK & WHITE & clean.

Really like this fly sheet. Expecially like the belly band and the attached neck sheet. I have pruchased three of them. First one lasted all summer. My mare wears it 24/7 during the summer. She is allergic to the little black bugs and likes to rub her tail in her stall. The second one I bought was torn up in the first week. Fought with it all summer for some reason. This year I bought a new one and she has worn it for 3 and 1/2 half months without a mark on it. Part of my problem was not getting one big enough. I found I needed to get one size bigger that actually fit her. The extra room seemed to do the trick.

This was torn within the first day of use. I was not comfortable with the string in the back so I did not use it. Without back leg straps the thing spent most of it's time hanging lopsided on my gelding. I am not happy with it.

My mare wears this sheet when she comes in (before dusk) until she goes out (after dawn). She is well protected in her stall from biting insects. Wonderful since she is very sensitive to them. I apply Flicks insect repellant before she heads out for the day. I do not turn her out in it as the other horses as well as the trees, etc are likely to snag it.
There is one thing I would like to see change: More adjustment on the belly wrap since this is a major area that needs protection. Also,how the heck do you use the long string provided at the rear?

I have two geldings that I put these on. I use them mostly at night for the no-see-em's. They play together in them, they roll in them, and yes they pull on each other's. But it helps to keep them from standing around itching all the time. I wash mine every other day and I have had to stitch up a couple holes. When we started using them it allowed the horses to come out of the barn and play in the yard during early morning and evening hours that use to be to buggie. More freedom for the horses. We also use them on hot afternoon when the horse flies come out thick. I will order two more to replace these because they are worth it to me. When they get lopsided I just adjust them back into place. Helps keep the horses from rubbing off their tails and mane too.

I moved my horse to a new barn where everybody uses these fly sheets. My poor horse was being attacked by flies and I was out of fly spray so one of the other boarders let me borrow her Saxon fly sheet. He barely seems to notice its there. It helps a lot. But you still have to spray their legs and in between their legs with fly spray. I recommend using a full face fly mask with ears as well as this fly sheet. This fly sheet stays on pretty straight, moving only a few inches to one side or the other, and it doesn't twist when the horse rolls. I've never washed one, but I have been told they wash up wonderfully. The only bad thing I've found is, if you attach the top of the neck to your horse's halter or fly mask, when the horse puts his head down it pulls and the Velcro starts to come undone from itself. It didn't really bother my horse, but I know it bothers other horses. I don't attach it to his fly mask anymore and the neck part stays up on its own really well.
