I bought 4 of these this spring and I absolutely saw a reduction in flies after about 2 weeks of use. You have to move them around to find the right spot where the flies are attracted to the trap--I keep mine on the ground usually in a sunny spot. They smell bad, but that is why they work. I chose this over biological fly control or feed through fly control since my neighbors don't have good manure management or use any fly control.

I have tried everything, including every trap out there on the market, feed through suppliments, fly predators, fly strips. Nothing works like this fly trap. It take a few days for the attractant to get ripe, and you have to try putting it different places, but once it gets going, I have never seen so many dead flies. It does not smell good, but it can be kept far enough away from where activity centers to still be effective. I have up about 5 and this is the first year I have seen a significant drop in fly population. I am not sure if you can put in trees outside where horses hang, because I worry they would fall in wind/storm and attractant would be close to horses, but it says it is not toxic, so maybe that is OK. The attractant in this trap is what seems to be different from other traps that just don't attract the flies. It is cheap too!

Used @ 10 of these at a 60 horse boarding facility and went from consttant stamping/swishing tails, fly-covered faces and bleeding legs to minimal flies within several weeks despite neighboring facilities lax stall cleaning habits. Used for several years with great sucess. Plastic eventually breaks down in UV (after several year), and occasionally we lost an older trap to a horse stepping on it or a dog chewing it. Worked best for us on ground, in the sun near moist ground, though hanging traps in breezy shady areas worked OK. IF it doesn't work in two days move it - we would have one trap completely empty, and the one 10 feet away had the flies standing in line for reservations! Go figure!
