Product Summary:
Extra 1” layer of padding over the withers! Not only does this pad feature a center layer of open-cell Ultra-Foam sandwiched between two layers of deep pile Kodel "Absorber" fleece, but the Chinook™ goes even farther by offering an extra 1" thick, built up in the front 10", and a cutback area over the withers. The extra built up will redistribute the rider’s weight more evenly over your horse’s back by shifting the rider’s weight off of your horse’s shoulders. By reducing the rider’s weight on the horse’s shoulders, you will find that leads come more easily and your horse will experience fewer back and leg problems. Not only does the cutback area in the front of this pad over the withers allow you to experience a smoother ride and your horse to have more freedom of shoulder movement when you ride, but it also helps to keep the pad securely in place under your saddle. The Chinook™ pad reduces all pressure points effectively increasing blood flow and improving your horse's endurance. Measures 30" x 30" x approximately 2" thick (approximately 3" thick in the built up area).

Don't Buy, 6/11/2009
from Sparks, NV

This pad basically sucks. It keeps excess heat on your horse. It flattens out and causes the saddle to hit your horse's back. And the built-up section isn't much bigger than the rest of the pad and that flattens out and the saddle hits your horse's whithers. This pad is very cheap! I highly recomend you don't buy it.

Great for horse with broken withers!, 7/7/2008
Jenelle from Hammond, WI

Lately my horse was becoming increasingly uncomfortable when I'd ride him due to wither pressure. He broke his withers some years back but once healed it seemed fine to ride him. I do alot of trail riding and this year he became more head flippy the longer I rode him. I saw this pad and thought for the reasonable price it was worth a try. His head flipping has stopped and the dry shoulder patches (when the rest of his back was wet after a ride) are gone! Thanks to this pad I no longer have to think of retiring my favorite trail horse! Jedi is aprox 15.3hh 1100lbs and is a ten yr old appendex quarter. He broke his withers during horse play on ice at the age of 2.

Makes horse very sweaty, 7/7/2008
from

It does not breathe and makes my horse very very sweaty in the heat. Once my horse started to sweat it made the pad slippery so the saddle was all over the place, especially when you're getting on. I would not reccomend using this pad in the summer.
