Yes, ugly is the correct description, and in a parade, a lady actually publicly ridiculed me for my students' & my "ridiculous" appearance, and asked me when we were ever going to learn to ride so we didn't need helmets anymore. I'm a certified instructor, and helmets will be required no matter what, but I wish Troxel would work on a better looking one. Our brains are too important to sacrifice, so our school sucks it up. Wrong in so many ways, 9/15/2009

The helmet itself has no ventilation. The "Hat" that fits over the actual helmet is apparently a giant hat for someone with a huge head. It is obviously not a cover designed for the helmet. Don't buy it thinking it will look “better” or more western than a traditional helmet. You look like a complete idiot with this thing on because the "hat" is so BIG. This purchase is back in the box and will NEVER be worn.

It's a great helmet, fits really well, and others love it! I laughed and nearly refused to wear it when I received it, but reluctantly did. That day I was bucked off a horse (slid off his neck, but still fell) and it didn't hurt when my head hit the ground. It works, good quality, and a great laugh... Buy it!

Waited for ages for this to come around. I ride western but here in the UK many places still insist on a hard hat so thought it would be ideal. No so!, VERY disappointed! It was very uncomfortable and looked quite silly due to the high port. No way I would be seem out riding in this. Not up to the Troxel quality either - feels and looks cheap. It cost me a bomb in shipping to the UK and I have to confess it has now gone in the trashcan because it would be too expensive to ship back. Just put it down to bad experience and I really don't think I could sell it on with a clear concience either. Oh, surely someone must be able to make a western safety hat that actually looks good. Please email me if you come across one.

Silliest looking cowboy hat ever, 10/27/2008

When I first viewed this product I thought, "what a great idea! Finally, someone designed a functional riding helmet that looks like a real cowboy hat!" I waited and waited (it was always on backorder),and almost 4mos after I first placed my order it finally arrived. What a disappointment. It looks great EXCEPT the center section of the hat is so large and tall, that it makes one look like Dudley DoRight or Yosemite Sam! Absolutely hysterical. My husband and daughters laughed so hard, they almost fell on the floor! I'm sending it back. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Why is the middle portion so huge??
