I put this muzzle on my horse on Friday night and by Friday Morning she had manipulated it enough that the stitching was broken away from the velcro strips. It is poorly made. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I HAVE BOUGHTEN 6 RUBBER MASKS AND MY PONY HAS RIPPED AND BROKEN THE RUBBER ON EACH ONE IN JUST A FEW HOURS. I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE THIS ONE A TRY SINCE ALL THE OTHERS ALL GOTTON DESTORED BY MY PONY . I HAD TO KEEP HIM CONFINED IN THE CORRAL BECAUSE ,IF HE FOUNDERS ONE MORE TIME , IT COULD KILL HIM. THIS GRAZING MUZZLE WAS A BLESSING. THERE IS NO RUBBER EXCEPT ON THE BOTTOM WHERE THE REMOVEABLE ROUND DISC IS AND THERE IS A HOLE THERE FOR HIM TO EAT VERY LITTLE . I DID A LITTLE ADJUSTING TO HIS HALTER TO MAKE IT FIT BETTER, AND ADDED TIES TO THE 4 SIDES TO GIVE IT EXTRA REINFORCING ONCE THE VELCRO IS INPLACE. THIS REALLY HELPED SO HE CAN NOT RUB IT OPEN ONCE THE VELCRO IS PRESSED DOWN. THIS IS TRULY A EXCELLENT MUZZLE AND IT SEEMS THIS ON MUCH ROOMER THEN THE OTHER MUZZLES HE HADS TRIED.

This is my third year using this muzzle (have used Mesh and rubber before; some didn’t even last a day) it has worked wonders with my too easy keeper, Pryor Mountain mustang. The first thing to go on all the muzzles is always the rubber disc. I found the best thing to use was a canvas backed vinyl belting from a paper making factory. I do wish they would offer new inserts. My horse discovered how to undo the Velcro, and I had used zip ties to keep Velcro closed. The next thing to go is the aluminum bars break at the weld and fall out. I've remedied this by drilling the holes out to ¼” and using all-thread with steel/nylon lock nuts. This works well and lasts until the threading comes apart, then I heat up a nail and melt holes in webbing and again use zip ties to keep together. The last things to go are the straps that actually hold the aluminum to the rest of the muzzle. These just finally wear through; hence my ordering a new muzzle today. I think these should be thicker strapping and the slots in the aluminum rounded. The price is right for a tough horse and got me a lot further down the road than the integrated rubber muzzles. I would not hesitate to pay more if they would put in better stitching, round the holes, and use thicker strapping on the aluminum to webbing. Heck I would even send someone my one I am replacing if they wanted to study it for improvement Thank you!

Good price but not good quality. Maybe my big TB was an exception, but the muzzle began ripping around the aluminum piece only days after using it. Gonna try something else now.

My horse, no matter how I adjusted this muzzle, was able to continue cribbing by putting his teeth on a little ridge on the inside of the muzzle. NOT effective in my experience. Expensive, and not effective.

have used many muzzles, this one is well built, welds are more solid than other muzzles.. for the price, cannot beat it.

I have been using this style muzzle for 3 years and it has worked wonders with my founder-prone horse. I let him out at night with the muzzle on, and take it off during the day, keeping him in a smaller lot with less grass. Even with lush spring grass, using this system, he hasn't had a founder episode for the past two years. I found he doesn't destroy a muzzle as quickly if it's on him only at night. The first thing to go on the muzzle is always the rubber disc. I found some thick plastic on the farm and made my own disc that lasts all spring and summer. The first year, my horse discovered how to undo the velcro, and I had to sew them shut, permanately attaching it to the halter. Since that first muzzle, I haven't had to do that again. The next thing to go is the aluminum bars break at the weld and fall out. I've remedied this by finding some thick wire on the farm and curling the ends through the holes and bending them downward away from his face. This works well and lasts until the rest of it finally falls apart. The last things to go are the straps that actually hold the aluminum to the rest of the muzzle. These just finally wear through - I haven't figured out a remedy for this yet, so when that happens, I buy a new one. I can genearlly make a muzzle last an entire Spring, Summer and Fall, so one a year. $24 is not a bad purchase for keeping my horse founder-free for a year! Thank you!

After modification, I have been very happy with this. The velcro straps are not designed for tear away, they are designed to keep the muzzle on the halter. Which is what I want. I find that the horse gets exercise and is not shut up in the corral and depressed. I did have to have the bars replaced with steel and welded in place. My horses popped the aluminum ones out or bent them. My horse wears it daily for three months straight in the spring and I take it off at night. He does get some grass, but not much and is happy to go out with the other horses and come in at night for his hay. This has kept him from foundering for five years now. I now need a new one because he has worn though the web at the bottom.

My horse would not except the mesh grazing muzzle so this muzzle seemed like it would be a great idea. I could get him use to wearing a muzzle then put the insert in. Well it was a great idea until we lost the insert. I have not been able to find just the insert so unless I buy a whole new muzzle, it's worthless.

We got this for our 16 hand paint to cribbs endlessly. Principle is great, construction leaves lot to be desired. Breakaway's don't. We found the gelding dragging a 4 foot gate, the bars had hooked on the hinge and he pulled the gate off the hinges. Even the leather halter didn't break. Aluminum posts only lasted two months before he broke them. So great idea, poor construction. Guess I'll try the more expensive one. Let you know how that works.

I have to replace this every 3 months or so. My horse tears the fabric on the sides, the velcro rips or bends the aluminum. He broke one of the bars off one of them. Unfortunately this is my only option.
