We have these on all of our gates, nothing gets out, unless we forget to close the latch.

I must be absolutely stupid because I cannot figure out how to use this latch. I have metal tube gates and this would somehow go around my wooden post. Can someone help?

Best Answer: I know how you feel. I had the same questions when I got mine. The best I can figure is that the thing that looks like a large staple was made to be hammered into a wooden post to hold the chain part to the post. I do not use the staple looking thing...I can't get it hammered into my cedar post. Anyway I just wire it to my post. some of my posts are cedar and some are metal. The problem I have with the latches is the round ring that is supposed to prevent anything from flipping the latch open. On the ones I got the latch was too wide allowing the ring to flop up and down unrestricted. I had to use a hammer to bend the latch smaller so the ring would work.
Hope this helps answer your question. I can send a picture if it would help.

how do you install this ? wood post to metal gate panel.

Best Answer: 1. slip link of chain through V-shaped section
2. hammer v-shaped section into post (may need to drill starter holes) or weld onto metal post
3. slip j shaped pin into v section outside of wood
