Cheap wood, Cheap Hardware., 12/5/2011

Purchased this exact trunk from another provider. I have a dirt floored tack room. With the tack box being made from thin (1/4") and cheap ply wood (only $8 for a 6x8 sheet from lowes) the bottom got soft from the moisture of my tack room floor, so I have to store it on cinder blocks. What an eyesore. On top of that my tack room is not heated and the hardware rusted within the first year. Five years later the trunk is still going, but hardware is rusted beyond belief and the center locking device won't even close. The top has shifted so it doesn't sit evenly unless latched. Vinyl piping has cracked and broken exposing the ply wood. Grooming box has needed new nails hammered in. Leather straps are excellent though! They have not torn at all. All of this damage is from daily use, and I don't even transport the trunk. So, I guess you cannot get a cheaper trunk, but next time if I want a ply wood tack box I will make my own for about $50.00 for materials. Overall I wouldn't buy this trunk again mainly due to the rusting hardware. People want this trunk because it looks good, not because they want a giant eyesore featuring cheap hardware. Even the little nails rust. Trunk does hold a winter blanket, five western saddle pads, grooming box, and front and back pair of SMBs.

REALLY NICE!, 8/20/2010

I got this tack trunk because I needed a nice wooden tack trunk for a reasonable price that I could take to shows . When I recieved my trunk it really was DELUXE. It's HUGE, but that's really what I need. I love the lock system. Which comes with a key, and a place where you can put your own lock, so no one can take anything out of there when it's under lock and key. The only bad thing I can say about this is when I was still thinking about making the purchase it didn't provide a lot of info about the trunk. Plus, when I got the trunk it did have very little and very un-noticable nicks and loose bolts, but the loose bolts can be fixed with just a hammer. But, OVERALL I LOVE THIS tack trunk. I would highly recommend this product.
