poorly made, 1/24/2012

poorly made from Cartersville, GA

Purchase even though bad reviews. Listen to reviews. No smell, but only lasted 3 days on my donkey. I didn't use prior to 30 days of purchase so no returns. Now I am looking for another muzzle. Very disappointed!

Excellent Muzzle for a Great Price!, 9/8/2011

Sampson Creek QH from Albany, MO

I am very pleased with this muzzle. From reading some of the reviews, I was worried it would quickly fall apart, but I needed a muzzle for my Miniature horse and didn't want to spend the money on a more expensive version. Plus, I learned from a seller of Best Friend muzzles that even they need replaced every so often--though I don't know how often, I got the impression that it was every three or four years. This muzzle has held up through one entire season, and although it has a couple of wear marks in the bottom, I'll be using it for next season. It is fitted well to the horse, and hasn't caused any rub marks. It very well may last three to four years--and even if it only lasted two years, the price is definitely worth it!

Saves my horse!, 8/2/2011

Kathleen from WI

I have purchased these for the past 5 years. Without it, my pony founders within a short amount of time. At first, he worked so hard, he wore the bottom out. Had to buy 2 first year. Since he is used to is, I only use one a season. But he wears it from first grass and through the beginning of winter so he doesn't overeat his hay. I now buy one for the mini. I buy 2 at a time so haven't needed to buy every year. Great price and it works for what it is intended!

A Very Nice Muzzle for the Price, 6/3/2011

Cassidy from Albany, MO

I purchased this muzzle for my 300 lb., 13 year old Miniature horse so he could be out with his buddies all day rather than be kept in. I purchased it knowing that I may have to replace it each season; but I read somewhere that even the best muzzles, such as the Best Friend grazing muzzle, need replaced regularly, and decided to save money by purchasing the cheaper muzzle. When I got the muzzle, I was shocked at the size and was sure it wouldn't fit, but on the way to the barn I discovered it had a large amount of adjustment options, and at the tightest it was too small! It fits perfectly, and is of excellent quality for the price. It has not fallen apart, although I will say that the gelding is out in a hotwire fence (in other words he has nothing to rub against to damage it), has companions who leave him alone, and is not hard on things he is wearing--just has a tendency to remove them if that is possible, which he has not yet done. Overall, a great muzzle for the price. Highly recommend it.

works fine, 5/16/2011

Deb Peterson from Grand Meadow, MN

I do not understand the other coments. I had no problem adjusting for my horse. I do not see wear marks on her or the muzzle. It did smell like rubber, I put it in the sweet feed bin for a few days and that went away. Great price! Pet approval.. Obviously, Silver would prefer eating herself sick but she is not rubbing it off or any thing.

Works great!, 5/10/2011

Melanie from Asheville, NC

I have a Spotted Saddle Horse, on the shorter side who is prone to founder especially on new spring grass (over indulges himself in the pasture). SO far he has worn this muzzle for about a week and seems to be doing wonderfully! The cob size fit him well, as he does have a small arab type face. Product has several ways to adjust it. So far no wear and tear is apparant on the muzzle besides the tag has faded, and a few grass stains from his rolling. The bottom rubber has held up well! As for the smell other reveiws complain about... I jus thought it smelled like new rubber as any rubber product smells The smell wore off after pasture wear though. Oh and so far he has no rubs on his face from wearing the muzzle, its very well padded on the inside.

Poor quality - ripped apart in 3 days!, 5/4/2011

KatCorsiatto from Richmond,IN

Very poorly made. My pony ripped the bottom out of it in 3 days. The rubber pieces are very flimsy. Although satisfaction is guaranteed - only if you report it within 30 days of purchase. I ordered this in advance of the growth season so my pony would overgraze so I was out of luck. Shame on me for not paying attention to the reviews!

Needs to be less of a waste, 9/29/2010

Linda from

The rubber part of the muzzle wears out quickly. It seems I need to replace the muzzle once a month. I hate the idea of not being able to get a replacement for the muzzle. It seems such a waste to discard the entire muzzle or buy a whole new one just because the hole has wore thin and has become wider from the use.

i used this for one of my miniature horses. she tore hole in the bottom in a week! it also had a horrible smell to it. i do not reccomend this product at all!! i suggest to spend some more money on one of the older ones... it would be way more worth it! (also i scrubbed and tried just about everything to get rid of the smell. nothing worked!)

Excellent value, 5/16/2010

Sherry from

I have found that this muzzle holds up longer than the more expensive one. My mare would go through those muzzles in about 6 weeks by slowly enlarging the grazing hole. These seem to last longer so save me from replacing so often. It is always frustrating to have to replace the entire muzzle when only the hole wears out.

Poor investment, 4/27/2010

Mickey Hansen from

Do not waste your money on this product. The basket is not deep enough to keep my pony from pushing out of it. I've had to put Chicago screws in to hold the adjustment as the plastic holders have already broke...all of them. And it appears all grazing muzzles, to save a penny, come with velco rather than a buckle. What velco is strong enough to withstand a horse? Very very disappointment and a total waste of money. not as good as the older ones, 4/12/2010

sorefeet from

I bought one of these about 4 or 5 years ago and didn't use it heavily until this year. Bought one of these new ones for a spare and there's a BIG difference in the construction. Strapping is much lighter weight also. Sure hope the thing holds up as I hate those awful metal ones.

Grazing muzzle, 10/19/2009
Ruth Marti from Oakley, Ca.

While this muzzle is at a competitive price, I was very disappointed in the quality and durability. I bought 3 and within 2 weeks the 1st one started to fall apart, Within 5-6 weeks all 3 are unusable. When I called cutomer service, they said they only will replace them for 1 month. If I had known they had such a short guarantee, I would have sent back all three when the 1st one fell apart. Instead I tried to fix it myself where the seams came out which did not work anyway. Very disturbed about quality of horse.com products, as I also bought 3 fly masks at the same time, which also did not last even 3 weeks before they started getting holes in them.

Inferior Quality, 9/23/2009
from Raleigh, NC

I bought this product based on the many rave reviews comparing it to the "more expensive brand". I was very disappointed in the quality - it is NOT comparable to the other brand - the muzzle is constructed of much a much thinner material that my horse ate through in less than one week. In addition, the muzzle piece had a very strong, offensive rubbery odor that did not dissipate over time - waste of money.

Munch Mouth Mare, 9/7/2009

Deborah Edmundson from Princeton, N. C.

This will be the 3rd one I have bought for my S.S.H. mare this season. She eats the bottom out, and finds a way to get it hung on "something" to tear it up. Can't find a better product for the money though. Keeps her sound on her feet. Cheaper than Vet visits or making her miserable being shut up while the rest of the herd is out on pasture.

I have used these muzzles in the past for my minis and thought they were a good value. However, the new ones are terrible. They fall apart within a week. Obviously a different manufacturer is being used. Don't bother with these anymore. Spend the extra and get a much higher quality and it will last for a long time.

When my mustang discovered he couldn't graze with the muzzle on he threw a royal fit! But, after he burned off excess energy from being cooped up, he settled down and enjoys being out in the pasture vs being contained. Caught him in the early stages of foundering and he's doing great!

Half the rubber connectors to the nylon halter ripped out after only a couple weeks use rendering it useless. This must be a design flaw or use of inferior materials since I now see several others have had the same problem. Cheap price, cheap product. Guess you get what you pay for.

good idea, 6/19/2009
Joyce Davis from Stanwood, WA

I have used these for years with no complaints until 2009. The muzzles I have received have a very strong and noxious odor and it doesn't fade much with time and use. The first one I ordered in 2009 I figured the smell would go away. The second one I got smelled worse than the first. I noticed these are made in China and they have a distinct strong smell like chemicals. I have washed it with soap and water and hung it in the sun but the smell is still very strong. I am afraid to put it on my horse for fear of him inhaling this smell for 9-10 hours a day. Isn't China where some things we have gotten contain poisions? I stll haven't made up my mind to send this back, but I probably will.

Best for the idea but only fair., 6/16/2009
Mike from Oakland, IL

I buy two a year. The bottom always comes off. This product is the best of what's available. I have tried them all,to rate this product it would be avarage for $19.95. When they were $40 or more, poor for sure. The bottom needs to be tougher, less plyable, the horse mashes it to the ground and bites the bottom in the process of getting the grass that comes through the hole. And it needs a nose band. The velcro is a good idea, if it gets caught on something the velcro can be pulled apart with enough force.

Keeps our pony safe, 6/15/2009

from Oakland County, MI

My Vet warned me to put a grazing muzzle on our cob size fat pony. We put a horse size muzzle on our cob pony as he wants to be out with the herd on 30 acres of grass. Our pony's weight is perfect and he seems perfectly happy in it. We do have one horse that stoped drinking alot of water and we had to take it off of him.

Good value, good product, 5/17/2009
Pamela Monson from Middleton, Idaho

This grazing muzzle is comparable to the very expensive ones. All have had the bottom worn out before the season ends; however I get horse shoeing pads, cut them to the diameter of the muzzle, round the edges, cut a 1" hole in the pad and presto: I have a new grazing muzzle when the only thing wrong is that the bottom has been worn out. Good value for a great product. Much cheaper and better for the horse than laminitis.

Not worth the money, 5/4/2009
from Phenix, VA

I bought two of these muzzles for two different horses. Besides it being easy for the horse to remove, the rubber bottom (end where the grass is accessible) became detached from the webbing within a week by one horse and two weeks by the other. . Would recommend a muzzle with a metal bottom (at least more my guys).

Excellent with alterations., 9/1/2008
Pat from Washington state

I have used these muzzles for years now. A great value, but every one that I have bought has come assembled wrong. The halter part is always twisted funny, like it is put together backwards. After I fix that, I have had to tie baling twine to the front top of the muzzle, criss-crossed to the rings to keep my horse from rubbing it on the ground and getting his lips over the top. I have also had to tie another piece under his throat to keep him from rubbing it and going over from the back. It gets into the 90s where I live, and I wish that it was not black and that they allowed more air to flow to the horse's nostrils. The webbing is thick along the nostrils and there is only a little opening for air. If I still lived down South, I would not make my horses wear one on a hot day. Also, from the sounds of their ripping and chewing, I'd say that the hole could be smaller. I think that they are still getting too much grass through the hole. On one of my muzzles, I glued a heavy plastic over the hole, so that they cannot get any grass at all. I feed hay to my two foundered horses, and the muzzle is just for recreation, exercise and socialization. It's great to let their sore feet walk on grass instead of the hard packed dry-lot, too.

Love this product, 8/3/2008

Peggy from Tennessee, IL

We have a mare that is IR and her pasture time MUST be limited but she needs time to be with the herd to run and be a horse. This allows her that freedom her mind and body needs while limiting her grass intake. The quality and fit are wonderful. The only thing I change is the throat snap, I turn it so that it goes in...had it catch on the fence when she was trying to rub it off!! Could have been ugly.

Free Spirit Morgans from NY

This is my second year using this muzzle. It is a great buy and rubs my horse's nose much less than the previous one that had metal on the bottom. He can get it off very easily so I have to add an extra leather strap around his throat and fasten the side rings to it, but it works great this way and is keeping him from putting on too much extra weight. I'm buying another for my chubby mare.

Well worth the price !!!!!, 6/19/2008

I have purchased the more expensive grazing muzzles from other companies before and there is NO DIFFERENCE between theirs and the ones that Country Supply carry... For the past several years I have only purchased the ones from here, and they have held up well and their fit is adjustable. Of course, the horses do wear out the bottoms when worn often during the spring and summer months, that is expected; but for the price, I just order extra ones to have on hand... they are well worth it!!!! I would recomend these muzzles to anyone concerned about their horses weight and well-being...( from a trainer and instructor for over 30 years)
