It does a good Job, 3/1/2012

I'm on my 2nd one and looking to buy a spare. When you need one you wanted it yesterday if you now what I mean. I use mine in a Rubbermaid tank 70gal it works great never had a problem with ice(my tank is out of the wind). I run my cord through a galvanized pipe(L shaped) so the horses(8) don't bother it. I just wish Rubbermaid made there tanks without the heater plug, it would be a lot easier to clean.

there are no GOOD deicers, 12/21/2011

I have 3 of these & sometimes they work a year; sometimes 3 years .... they are not worth the price, but there are no better ones; saw on Utube to build an insulated box around tank - will do this in the summer & try it

One hit wonder, 9/22/2011

I thought the price was pretty good for this item, considering not having to chip at ice every morning and night. However, I only got one season out of it. Was working great until one evening I went to fill the stall buckets and the tub was HOT! Thermostat went bad and the heater never shut off! Could have been really bad!!! Boiling water is NOT COOL for drinking. I don't recommend.

Inadequate for 100 gallons, 1/11/2011

This allowed our 100 gallon trough to freeze over and the animals could not break through for their water. Winds of 40mph with a chill, but it is not doing what it should. Oh... the chew cord protector is a spring which was covered in rust within a week. This adds to poor water quality.

Highly recommend, 11/12/2010

I am going on my 3rd year with these de-icers. Other less quality ones, I've only gotten a year or two before they died. My horses do not get colic since the water is not ice cold. It doesn't heat the water. The water is cold, but not ice cold. Does raise the elec. bill, but I'll pay it instead of a vet bill.
