already have one...works great
raymond b on Jan 19, 2016
We used these every winter, so I don't have to break ice every morning, and our horses drink more water, because it keeps the water at a good temperature.

they seemed to be good heaters

Need for stock tanks. Work great

What is the length of the electrical cord?
A shopper on Sep 17, 2014
Best Answer: It's about 4 foot--long enough to reach my outlet next to the water trough, but not so long to give the horses something to play with. If you're going to have to use an extension cord, be sure to use heavy duty, and no longer than necessary.

do you put this in the tank itself, under the water?
Noragene S on Nov 12, 2014
Best Answer: You put it right in the tank.I just got it but it looks like it is equipped with a flotation device, if you want it to float on top of the water leave the floatation device on, If you snap the floation device off it will sink to the bottom of the tank. I have it floating on top right now.

what is the wattage?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2014
Best Answer: this one is 1500 watts but this type/make of deicer comes in several different wattage's. Just so you know if you have something like a 75/100 gal tank you only need about 500 watts to keep it from freezing, I love these deicers and have been nothing but impressed with the ones I have bought!

Is this safe to use with an extension cord? I want to put it in a water tank outside the barn. The water tanks IN the barn get very dirty from dust and hay, and the horses won't drink out of them.
Stormy K on Nov 18, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, I use them with extension cords, although it's important to only use one, and make sure it's graded for that purpose and outdoor use. Extension cords vary. I am using 500W though, not 1500W.

I have no power at the barn location..... can this be powered by a battery? Extension cord would be way to far
Anita T on Jan 20, 2016
Best Answer: K & H recommends use only with a properly grounded GFCI Electrical outlet installed by a qualified electrician, acceptable for outdoor use and protected from snow and rain immediately adjacent to the location where the heater will be used.

What are the dimensions? Is it submersible
A shopper on Nov 5, 2014
Best Answer: The float is 7 inches across and 3 1/2 inches tall. I bought three of these, each came with a clip to keep float at bottom of bucket. The item is made of plastic, but considering the cost if they make it thru one winter I'll be happy. Also hope to use this float for my chickens water bucket.....hope this helps!

will they work in a 500 gallon water container?
A shopper on Nov 8, 2014
Best Answer: It depends on your temperature ranges. They were designed as pond heaters, originally, so unless you have extreme cold, I would think the 1500 watt would work fine. I use the 500 watt model in my 100 gallon troughs, and only get just a little ice if temps get down to single digits.
