Product Summary:

Kensington CatchMask Extended Nose with Ears Fly Mask
The CatchMask with ears functions as a fly mask until you attach a lead rope snap through the latch assembly converting the mask into a secure catch halter. It looks normal to other horses so stable mates with a habit of removing each other's masks tend not to. Built with highly durable and weather resistant Waxwear binding and 1000 x 2000 denier mesh for long lasting wear.  Textilene provides 73% UV protection to the horse's face keeping your horse cooler.

Why did you choose this?

I have a Strawberry Roan whose nose gets very sunburned, so this mask protects his nose and ears from bugs. It's lasted the longest of any masks I have purchased, but it is a little pricey.

My horses stay out and we usually do not use halters. If we do, we use breakaway halters. Will this "CatchMask" break away if needed?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2014
Best Answer: I am with you - do not leave halters on and horses are in pasture 24/7. First the horses usually don't get these off but they sometimes do which tells me that in a pinch, it would come off. I do not think it would break however, rather that it would just pull off. Maybe the velcro would give? Otherwise, love this because of the durability and coverage and that unlike the others, they rarely pull these off one another - might be the color??? So I believe they are safe in the way halters are not. Hope that helps. Fyi the catch part where you would put the rope clip if you used it for that (I don't) is not hard but not easy either. Very thick at the spot.

Does this mask provide any UV protection from the sun?
Sallie E on Feb 2, 2015
Best Answer: Yes this works great!! You will need to replace in about 2 yrs as the Velcro starts to ware down by then and the seam on nose starts getting dangling strings and falls apart slowly. It is well worth the money. We use it on our horse with blue eyes and bald face.

Is the velcro the doubled kind like on the Farnam SuperMask where the soft side is between 2 of the crunchy hard velcro sides? Or is it the normal velcro that is soft on 1 side and crunch hard on the other?
A shopper on Jun 28, 2014
Best Answer: From your description it seems like the SuperMask. The middle velcro is soft with the scratchy stuff on each side. It does a good job of staying fastened and doesn't get pulled off near as easily as other fly masks I have used.
