Keratex Hoof Gel
The Ultimate All Year Protection For Hooves.
Keratex Hoof Gel keeps hoof horn water tight in wet weather, stops cracking in dry. Not a damaging oil, but a powerful hydrophobic treatment that leaves the hoof glistening dry.
While Keratex Hoof Hardener repairs damage to the hoof horn's molecular structure caused by water and ammonia, Keratex Hoof Gel quite simply stops the damage from happening in the first place.
Keratex Hoof Gel protects hooves from damage caused by manure, urine and excess water absorption.
Keratex Hoof Gel allows the hoof to breathe. Air can pass freely through Keratex Hoof Gel in either direction and excess moisture can be expelled from the hoof. No water or typical chemicals can enter the hoof from the outside.

Most problems resulting in hooves cracking and losing shoes are caused by the effects of water and ammonia. Keratex Hoof Gel protects the whole hoof capsule by providing a barrier against adverse environmental influences acting on the integrity of hoof horn.

Normal hoof oils and greases offer little protection against environmental damage. Once they come in contact with ammonia from urine, they become water soluble emulsions which are quickly washed off, allowing both water and ammonia to permeate the horn.

To maintain a healthy hoof capsule, Keratex Hoof Gel allows the horn to breathe. This means that air can pass freely through Keratex Hoof Gel in either direction and excess moisture can be expelled from the hoof, but no water or chemicals can enter the hoof from outside, The function is much the same as semi-permeable cloth used for outdoor clothing, which allows moisture out, but prevents rain from getting in.

Horn does not need extra moisture from external sources as the hoof capsule will take care of that naturally from inside. Constant changes in the moisture content of the hoof will result in cracking during the Summer.

Used as a standard hoof treatment throughout the year, Keratex Hoof Gel will maintain the moisture content of the hoof at the same natural level, rain or shine, Summer or Winter, turned out or stabled in. This is the answer to maintaining hooves in a healthy condition throughout the year. Hooves will naturally become stronger, harder and more able to resist the stresses of shoeing and work.

Because of the waterproofing effect, hooves are easier to clean and dry. Keratex Hoof Gel also contains a natural disinfectant to maintain hooves in a healthy condition.

Keratex Hoof Gel will help prevent snowballing if applied regularly to the sole and frog and immediately before going in the snow.

If you are showing or going to an event, all you need to do is apply Keratex Hoof Gel, let it dry, and then buff it with a cloth to have a super natural sheen on the hooves. Keratex Hoof Gel does not attract bedding, grass and dust in the same way as grease and oil type hoof dressings.

User Notes

Sold in 1 liter bottles

Do not use conventional hoof oils and greases with Keratex Hoof Gel. Use every 2 days except in dry conditions when Hoof Gel can be applied every 4 days. Apply an extra coat before riding out in snow or in extremely wet, muddy conditions.

Why did you choose this? Store
It worked to keep my horses feet hard during the Fla. rainy season last year
LINDA W on Jul 24, 2015
saves my horses' feet in the wet and at shows when they are washed daily. The best, and only thing I will use.

Bought at local store as a last resort for my 24 yr-old white-footed, pinto MFT whose feet were literally falling apart. Deep cracks, chunks coming off, founder, sole name it, he had it going on. This product literally saved his life by toughening his feet to the point that it allows him to walk without excruciating pain. He still limps a little bit but it's better than 3-legged lame! Had this not worked, I would have had to make the "ultimate decision" about him. Reordered!

How do you Apply It to the hoof? I'm talking about Keratex gel . Do you use a paint brush?? I'm fixing to buy some .
A shopper on May 26, 2015
Best Answer: I bought an inexpensive paint brush, cleaned a large crushed tomatoes can, and use a large hoof brush to complete our regimen. I pour out enough Keratex gel into the cleaned can and then use the paint brush. Any unused gel, I carefully pour back into the can, leaving out any dirt and debris. *Make sure you shake the gel thoroughly!* I coat the entire bottom of the hoof and heel, being careful not to have it run to the sensitive tissue. Then I follow up on the outer hoof wall. Both our horses, an OTTB and a Draft-cross, are barefoot and their hooves have held up well with limited riding on soft ground. Hope this helps.

Do you put this on the bottom on the hoof and on the top?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, you do. However, you must be careful not to put it above the coronet band. I would only put it halfway up the hoof on the outside. I applied it too liberally and it burned my horse, he was pawing and scratching. I had to wipe it off. It seals in moisture, so it is really good if your horse lives on a sand lot, which will strip out hoof moisture during the summer.

How is the gel different than Keratex Hoof Hardener?
A shopper on Jan 20, 2015
Best Answer: I have never used the hardener but can tell you that I am a fan of the gel. I apply it a couple of times a week no matter what the weather conditions and have found my horses hooves are much healthier. I ran out this fall and did not apply for a couple of weeks and my farrier could tell a difference (not good!) in my guys hooves.
