Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall... I like it. I really do. For really hot, humid days it is too much. I just take it off and put it back on for the nighttime. My biggest issue is the belly strap. It's located too far back and causes the blanket to shift. Material is good and washes well too. No rips or tears on a 24/7 wearing horse this summer. October 3, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by The name is deceiving.. My horse is allergic to fly bites... I bought this hoping to give her some relief... I suppose it might have if she was not dripping sweat after a 1/2 hour... don't waste your money!!! Super annoyed!!! Also runs quite big.. August 13, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Waste of money I bought one and my girlfriend bought one both our horses had completely destroyed them in a couple hours. Garbage get the Saxon it is cheaper right now and much better quality July 21, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Kool fly sheet It a nice looking sheet but for the heat and humity here in Va It is way to thick, It has a very, hot, dark blue nylon lining under the top of the neck cover and sheet that my horses sweat like crazy in even the cooler temps of 80 degrees. I cannot even use it if it get hotter than 80 degrees. I afraid my horse is going to over heat. And for some reason my mare pee's all over the back flap and it stays wet. I would not recomend this sheet if it gets warmer than 80 degrees June 6, 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great Sheet, If Your Horse Isn't Crazy Nice looking sheet for sure, but the mesh rips very easily. My gelding tore his after 2 days (he's only outside for 8 hours a day). He's at the bottom of the herd, so I imagine it's the other horses. May 27, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall Great Sheet- lasted three seasons so far! This sheet has been wonderful! I own a 15.2 qh/appy mare, who is fairly average build. It fits her perfectly. The leg straps did break early on, but this wasn't too big of a problem as I just attached hay ties. The mesh does rip, and it needed minor repairs after each season. This last year my mare was next to a horse who frequently fought with her, and he ripped the sheet up. However I'll fix it for the season (the fourth one I'll be using it for!), and buy it again next season. It runs true to size, so measure your horse then order it right. The next attachment goes pretty far up the next, and stays in place. My horse was never sweaty while wearing the sheet, and it fit her comfortably without rubbing anywhere (including the main). She's very sensitive to flies, and never had any fly bites. I love the sheet, and highly recommend buying it ONLY if you have a sewing machine, or don't mind getting it fixed up at the end of the season because it did need repairs every season. May 4, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by disappointing My horse wore this for a few hours, when he rolled in it, the clip broke, and he was walking on the thing and ripping the heck out of it when I checked on him. Very disappointing, as my Saxon brand fly sheet (without clips) lasted 2 summers. $55 or so down the drain! April 27, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by SIZE IS TRUE Don't order this sheet in a smaller size. It's true to size!!!! I ordered 2 inches smaller and it FIT 2 inches too small. I had to pay 11 dollars to return it and now my horse is without a fly sheet! I have a 15.3 QH who has an average build. February 11, 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not the best flysheet This flysheet is not durable at all and is not suitable for all horses' body types. The 'flowing mesh' rips easily and the belly band does not hold the sheet in place. My horse is a stocky and wide quarter horse and the blanket kept slipping off to one side. the only good thing was it did not make her sweat. but overall not a good choice for larger stockier horses. Rated 1 out of 5 by Safety Issue! These sheets run 4-6" too large and are slick with only one belly band resulting in them sliding daily regardless of conformation. Please be VERY wary with them. My show horse was wearing one last Spring when it rolled under him and he got his leg stuck in it. The synthetic material bunched and wrapped in to a cord-like mass and he was unable to easily free his leg. Six months later and $1500 in vet bills and I still can't ride my horse from the damage caused by using this product. September 30, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wonderful sheet!! I have a 15.2, 4 year old gelding that I put this sheet on for protection from the sun. Not only does it fit great, he likes it, and I have seen him roll in it several times, and he hasn't hurt it a bit. I am trilled with the quality, and duribility. Thank you Stateline for another great product. September 27, 2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by Kool Coat I usually love these KoolCoats, however the strap connections are in the wrong place. This was the first place for the blanket to tear ..these connections are on the side where the horse rolls and they immediately put a hole in the netting fabric. I suggest you make the connections where the fabric is stronger and not in the netting material. August 3, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pleased in the desert! First of all, I want to point out that this material is great for keeping horses cool during these 115 degree summers. Leave it off, and I have a horse COVERED in salt. I have a very dark bay reiner, and the sun just beats on his coat, leaving it bleached and standing at end. Not only does this sheet keep him cool and sleek, his tail stays long because he's not swatting at flies all day. I just purchased a second because the first was a little big (I overshot in my guessing game) and he ripped it rolling. Only complaint is that it slips to the side almost immediately after putting it on. I can live with that, though, because of all the other things I love about this fly sheet. July 23, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good sheet! I just purchased this fly sheet and Im pretty happy with it. I think the size is very true! However if you have a wide shoulder horse I would recommend going up a size as the sheet is a little snug in the shoulder. The qulaity is great, wish it was a little lighter weight. It is made of 2 materials and the thicker (plaid part) of it is kind of thick for hot weather. I live in WI and wouldnt recommend the sheet when it gets up in the 80's... maybe mid 80's but no hotter than that! But again anything on a horse when it's that warm will make them sweat! Overall im pretty happy with it! July 13, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Neutral This blanket did a great job of keeping the bugs off my QH....for the week that it lasted. He constantly rolls and I came out to find the blanket shredded in two spots hanging around his neck. I paid 85$ for it at the time, so you can imagine my disappointment. The straps were all very durable, but the fabric is what gave in the end. I would recommend it for a horse that isn't rough on blankets. Bugs didn't stand a chance with it while it was intact. Rated 5 out of 5 by Fly Free I got this fly sheet for my quarter horse and it fits her very nicely but sometimes in the paddock it slips to one side because of the one strap. otherwise it does keep flies away and protects her from the sun. July 4, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by My mare loves it and so do I Dance has gotten so used to wearing this fly/suncreen protection that if I don't put it on her she stands at the barn door until I do put it on. I can see she is more protected from flies, but there are some persistant ones that can bite through the mesh and the solid material. I see the blood specks. But think how bad it would be with nothing. The design is great. I love the way the mesh waves in the wind keeping the flies at bay. The neck is loose and which moves with her movement and keeps flies off her. She is a 50% white paint and this is keeping her from sunburning. Last year she burned so bad her skin peeled. The sheet does moves backwards so I tried tightening the surcingle and buckling at the girth area. That helps but when she lowers her neck to graze, it get pretty tight at the withers and the bottom of her neck. All in all, I love it... June 28, 2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by Good protection but doesn't hold up This sheet was good protection for my horse that is allergic to misquitos, but it doesn't hold up, she destroyed it within 3 weeks. June 25, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by No Drugs! For the first time in five years my two warmbloods haven't had to be on meds for their fly allergies. The sheets keep them cool and fly free even in 90* temperatures. I like the fact that these sheets fit big....they don't restrict movement or rub. The only place they have welts is the small space between back of their ears and the neck area that is exposed. Wish they made a fly mask that would overlap this area. June 24, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by UV Protection I bought this sheet for my Palomino pleasure gelding, as UV protection. Within a matter of weeks(having it on only during the day)he turned from a white/cream color to a golden palomino! Great durability! No prolbems yet. Even with other horses in the pature. The fly protection is great, too. Would definitely recommend! June 18, 2010

    great fly sheet
    NANCY M on Jun 10, 2015
My horse became badly sunburned on his neck. I purchased my first one in July and it did such a wonderful job protecting him I wanted to be sure I had one ready for next year, or a back-up just in case.
    LESLYN R on Sep 8, 2014
I have a Grulla QH and she gets so hot and sweaty in the summer, hopefully this will help keep her cool.

Keeps my horse cool while protecting her from sun
    Jessica C on Aug 18, 2014
Does it come with the neck piece? Does the neck piece stay in place even when the horse is grazing?
    A shopper on Jun 11, 2014
Best Answer: I only bought the sheet -- not the complete set with the detach-a-neck feature. I was concerned it might be too hot for our Texas summers -- already mid-90's. But I am very pleased with it and wish I had ordered the set with the neck piece. It can not be ordered separately. Even in mid-90's my horse has only developed small sweat spots where the fleece is on the withers and a little where it's lined on the shoulders.
It has really worked with the flies, been pretty durable with his rolling, and keeps him clean (a nice fringe benefit).

I've had trouble with some fly sheets rubbing the hair off my filly's chest. Has anyone had trouble with that problem with the Kool Coat sheet?
    Carolyn E on Jul 6, 2014
Best Answer: My AQH mare (14+2) had that problem but I started attaching the neck piece to the coat at the very front, then the neck piece to her halter also. This keeps the Kook Coat from working its way toward the rear and thus putting a lot of stress across her chest. BTW, I adjust the Kool Coat frequently raising up and moving it toward the front. Hope this helps -- wish thee were a better way.

is there belly protection, or does the sheet just hang down on sides? Hard to see in the picture
    Toni D on Apr 15, 2014
Best Answer: No, there is not belly protection. The netting of the sheet hangs on both sides. The fabric that is used seems to be a good quality fabric. I have not actually used the sheet yet to determine how the sheet withstands durability or how heavy the sheet is in hot weather.

is the sizing from center of chest to point of hip?
    nicole g on May 16, 2015
Best Answer: Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest around the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.
