I bought one of these for my 15h standardbred mare. She has never had an issue with it. She collects better with this bit than the jointed eggbutt snaffle I was using and respects the curb action without throwing her head. We do dressage, trail riding, and some jumping. That said, this bit requires soft hands and knowledge of how to use double reins to be effective without being too harsh. The long shanks make the curb action stronger than something like a Tom Thumb pelham or kimberwick. As another reviewer said, it's also a nice "in between" bit when switching from huntseat to saddleseat without changing bits every time.

My horse has always been very hard mouthed since I got her. She would never let go of the bit. She would just grab it and pull through me. After a couple rides in this bit, she really changed. She wouldn't grab it so much, but it was not too much to where she would fight more. This bit is the perfect balance of mildness and harshness.

I use this bit on my 15.2 hh Appaloosa polo mare. I formerly had her in a jointed pelham and she was running right through my hands. Put this polo pelham on her and she was a different horse - came right back to me without force and was a lot handier in the turns. I liked that I didn't have to hang off her face with two hands to stop like I did with the old bit, the whole time fearing I was ruining her mouth. The bit is also high quality, well made, and a reasonable price.

LOVE THIS BIT from Michigan
My gelding is a big 16.3hh paint, and he's a strong boy. He was too strong for a plain full cheek snaffle, and even too strong for a kimberwicke. I put this bit on him with double reins and his conformation and stride were perfect, no gap in his trot pace, and his head was level and face vertical. Used it for jumping, huntseat flat work, and even saddleseat! I love this bit, my gelding listens, and we place like crazy in our pleasure classes now! I suggest this bit to anyone with a strong horse who needs a bit of a check ever now and then, and for anyone who does both hunt and saddleseat who doesn't like to change bits all the time!

Bit works great. Use it for Polo, If the other bit person hard mouth issues, put rubber blockers around the bit. This can happen with other bit.

well.... the quality is very good. but the bit fit my horse correctly and my horse CONSTANTLY had bleeding sores on the side of his mouth. i rode him with barely ANY contact and this is what was happening. i personally did NOT want to buy the bit but was forced to by trainer and grandparent. if your horse is soft on another bit or is young, do NOT buy this bit!!!
