This same punch is $10 at Tractor Supply, I used mine right out of the package and its sturdy and works great didnt have any problems punching a few holes in my headstall.

Save yourself some time and trouble, and just pay a few extra dollars for a steel hole punch. The price definitely reflects the quality. (Low!) This punch broke after just two uses, the punch base broke and the punches themselves are starting to warp after one or two uses each. Also, where the punches lock into place doesn't line up with the base anyway! Not a good punch!!! And don't expect to actually get through any material with any substance to it! Definitely go for a more reliable steel punch!

I had no problems at all with this punch for about three months until my husband borrowed it (go figure) to use on his two ply harness leather bridle. He started on the widest punch setting and bent the handle rendering it useless. I have found that if you start on the smallest punch and then go to the punch size you need the punch works very well. The lock on the handle is very annoying to me though. I agree to spend the extra money on a steel one, this is a good one for light duty leather and not much more. Buyer beware, it is not husband proof!

the metal is flimsy, it twisted the head the first time i went to use it. the only way to get it to work without warping the punch off the base is to gently press & wiggle for 30 minutes. i would reccomend buying the more expensive steel ones that you can actualy just punch and go.
