Product Summary:

Merial® UlcerGard®

To help prevent an outbreak of ulcers you can feed your horse UlcerGard. Ulcers are caused by radicals fluttering in the horse’s body.  Clinical symptoms of stomach ulcers include:  poor appetite, loose stools, poor coat and performance. Omeprazole, the main ingredient in UlcerGard for horses, suppresses acid production, stopping pain and discomfort before they occur. Just 1mg/kg of omeprazole per day for 28 days effectively prevents the onset of ulcers in horses exposed to stressful conditions.

Features:

  • Palatable cinnamon-flavored oral paste
  • FDA-approved to prevent painful stomach ulcers in horses
  • Can be used for stallions but not for pregnant mares
  • Convenient once-a-day dosing

I have a horse who only goes to 3 horse shows a year. She only displays symptoms of ulcers at the horse show and not at home. How much Ulcer guard do I need to give her to keep her comfortable at a show?
Susan M on Feb 24, 2015
Best Answer: Hey Susan! (Great 1st name by the way)--our vet has recommended that we give 1/2 the usual dose the day prior to trailering, 1/2dose daily while we are there & 1/2 dose one more day after return. I also have purchased the powder form from my vet, and this is much cheaper than Ulcergard. This apparently is only available by prescription from vet, so you can check with yours. This is easy to sprinkle in with feed & my horse eats it right up! Hope this helps! Blessings to you & your horse, Susan L.
