Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.

Why did you choose this?
Is this waterproof or water or water resistant? I see both in the description.
Best Answer: I have this blanket on my TB mare who is turned out 24/7 but has a run-in if she so desires. It seems to be definitely water resistant and I like the soft lining against her coat for warmth. She hasn't stood out in a heavy pouring rain because she can use the shelter but I am very happy with the blanket.
water resistant and keep the horses warm?
Best Answer: I just ordered two of these for my horses. They came a few days ago. they are heavy, well made and fit my horses well. they have not worn them in the rain yet but it says on the package that they are water resistant.
In my area, it doesn't get below freezing very often. my horses are stabeled at night, so they don't need something for extreme tempertures. Hope this answers your questions.
How do you measure your horse to make sure you order the right blanket?
Best Answer: Measure your horse for the correct blanket size by following these easy guidelines:
1) Stand your horse square. 2) Place your measuring tape at the center of the chest. 3) Measure from the middle of the chest to the center of the tail one side. and that is the horse's blanket size.
Is this a winter blanket?
Best Answer: Hi Nicole, It will depend where you live and winter conditions. For my horse in CA this is a good blanket for late fall/early winter with night temperatures about 40-50 degrees and a normal hair coat (not body clipped). My horse is in an outside paddock and I blanket at night only. I hope this helps.
