These Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in the overall health of your horse. They are essential fatty acids, meaning they must be provided in the diet. The long chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are responsible for many metabolic processes in the horse’s body and are derived from fish oils. Fatty acids derived from certain plant-based sources, such as flaxseed, are short chain omega-3 fatty acids, and these may not provide the same health benefits as long chain omega-3 fatty acids. While short chain fatty acids can be converted to the long chain omega-3s, this conversion is not efficient. Therefore, it is better to directly provide long chain omega-3 fatty acids such as those found in Welactin® 3 Equine in the diet. Formulated for all horses.
