Great blanket especially for the price, 5/13/2013

Matt from Tehachapi, CA

Our horses can be tough on blankets especially since they are turned out most of the winter on pasture with juniper, brush and other horses. Most of these blankets have lasted me 3-4 winters with no repairs needed.

Nice blanket but...., 4/22/2013

Barbara from Hodgenville, KY

I really like this blanket except for a couple of things. The rear leg straps snap to the rear of the horse's legs. The blanket also runs large. So with the snaps in the rear of this slightly too big blanket, there is always manure on the snaps! However, the quality of the blanket overall is very good and I would rather the blanket be too big than too small.

Great Blanket!, 4/8/2013

Happy from IL

I bought this blanket in the middle of last winter and so far it has held up great! The size 78 fits my 16.3 hh Thoroughbred well. He could use a little more weight and there is plenty of room for him to bulk up. He also has a size 78 Tuffrider sheet, which is a little more loose than this blanket. He plays hard and is turned out with several other horses and the blanket has held up well. He did put a tiny tear in it shortly after getting it, but it hasn't grown and I haven't noticed any other rips since then. It keeps him warm and the color looks great against his dark brown/almost black winter coat!

great product, 3/8/2013

Happy from Paducah, KY

I have used this blanket for 2 years and it is still in great shape. My trainer likes it because it keeps the horse at just the right temperature. He is not sweating when the other horses are and he is warm when they need extra blankets. My horse is a nibbler and he hasn't ripped it at all. I would recommend this product to any one who wants a good sturdy blanket.

We have an older mare that is in with a herd. She usually goes through a couple of blankets per winter. This one made it through in one piece! No rips, not a tear, and all the straps and buckles in place!

Good blanket, 2/14/2013

Kassy from IA

I bought this blanket for my gelding that doesn't grow a very good winter coat. It has kept him warm and dry. He has a heavier duty blanket that I was saving for when it gets really cold but have not felt it necessary to switch the blankets out. Up until January he stayed outdoors 24 hrs but now he comes in at night and goes outside during the day. The blanket is holding up well, my horse goes out with about 10 or so horses during the day. I cannot say if the sizing runs sm or big as this is only the 3rd horse blanket I have ever purchased.

Great quality and seems to hold up well. Looks great on my red roan gelding, not too "purple". He is a 78, I ordered that size and it is a perfect fit.

Mini Skirt, 1/13/2013

Buyer from Jefferson, MD

Beautiful blanket but was SO short! Had to return it because my horse who is a petite TB mare looked as if she was wearing a mini skirt in it! She usually is a 75 and I even ordered this blanket in a 78 in case it ran small.

Very satisfied, 12/17/2012

LE from Osceola, WI

With the other review to order down a size I was a bit hesitant to order the same size as my tough-1. That one is huge on my mare and this blanket fits like a dream. buckles straps seem sturdier and can cinch tighter then my tough-1 sheet. The rear legs buckles only have one buckle vs. the tough-1 but because this one fits tighter I am hopeful she will not get that area as dirty. It is nice to have two snaps by the legs to keep the back leg secure and open the buckle by her barrel. Ordered the plaid and it is very rich in color.

Great Blanket for the price, 12/9/2012

Katie from Harrisburg, PA

I got this blanket about a month ago for my TB/paint gelding. The material is super strong and has held up great so far. Everything looks great on this blanket! Super deal for this price. The only thing wrong with it is it slips to the side just a little bit. It doesn't rub or anything, just slips. Overall a fantastic blanket. I wish it came in more masculine colors though!

I measured my mare at 69" and her 69" Tough-1 sheet fits perfect. This, however, is huge! Order a size down. The quality is good, but it's so big she poops on the sides.

Great product, 3/16/2012

Carol B from Midwest, Iowa

I have 4 of these blankets purchased last year, and just purchased an extra this year. 3 of my horses are hard on blankets (the 4th is quiet)and they have stood up to just about everything, bites, rolling, fences, weather, rain, snow, sleet and they all have remained dry. The only thing I lost was a tail flap, and no doubt that was taken off by another horse. They are boarded with about 20 other horses, so there is much biting and playing going on all the time. I have big horses, and their bellies to stick out a bit, but they fit well enough to keep them all warm and dry. Would purchase again. I respray them with tent waterproof every year and they'll be good for what winter can throw at them next year.

my horse ripped her last blanket in multiple places, so i was looking for a really tough blanket that i could afford. my horse has been wearing her blanket for about 2 or 3 weeks, i've seen both her and her pasturemates biting at the blanket and NO rippes or tears, the straps are staying on, even tho shes been laying down with it on, this is a great blanket i love it!

Excellent Blanket!!!, 1/31/2012

Kaitlyn from Lenox Township, MI

My retired TB gelding has many problems; One, he's a hard to fit horse with high withers, tiny shoulders, and a huge butt. Two, he's the WORST with his clothes! Tough-1? RIP! Defender? RIP! Kodiak? RIP! McCalistor? RIP! I was beginning to think I needed a $500 military-strength blanket after he went through 6 blankets in 3 months! Bought this Saxon when it was on a huge sale two winters ago. This is its third year. NOT. A. SCRATCH! VERY impressed with this blanket! The other geldings just can't seem to get a hold of it! Plus, no rubs! The other blankets had to have padding added they were rubbing so bad! I'd like to buy 100 of these, please.

Tomboy gelding tough!, 1/13/2012

Brnies from Waxahachie Tx

I have a total brat of a 4 yr old gelding. He and his pasture mate run, kick, and bite all over one another. He's eaten the cheaper Tough-1 blanket off his stablemate (in ONE night!). This Saxon material is awesome. It holds up to tough biting and heavy rolling. Nothing has broken yet, no rips or tears either. He's now toward the end of his second winter in this blanket and it cleans up like new. 100% waterproof still as well. The best testament to a blanket's quality is a returning customer..and I am one. I don't think you can find better for this price. The material is the secret.

Nice blanket, but already ripped!, 12/28/2011

KD from Burlington, wa

I have had this blanket less then a month and there is already a rip in it! Don't know how it happened since I have no barbed wire but I would have thought it would be a little tougher then that! It has kept my horse dry and warm though and I have not discovered any rub marks on her from wearing the blanket 24/7. Overall besides already having a rip in the blanket I think for the price it might be worth it. It does stay waterproof and she is nice and toasty feeling on those cold nights. But does get a mark down from me for ripping within the first 2 weeks!

Tough & great fit!, 12/27/2011

Swansonspaints from Horse Town USA, CA

Love the way this blanket fits both of my paint horses. I like how high it comes over the withers - no chance of it slipping back behind their tall withers. The sides hang down perfectly - just as shown in the picture. I ordered two 78's and I am on the 2nd to last hole on the chest, but with the hangover on the tail I would not want longer blanket. My gelding is super tough on blankets and one month later the blanket is going strong. Awesome blankets; reasonable price.

Super Tough!, 12/5/2011

JESSICA from Boise, ID

I have one of these thats 6 years old and doesn't have a scratch on it despite regular turnout with horses tough on blankets. This is the blanket that turned me into a Saxon fan; it fits good, is super tough and I can go out when its 10 degrees out side and find my horses nice and warm but then I come back out when its 60 degrees and find not a drop of sweat. This is the blanket I recommend to people who don't want to spend a lot but still want the quality of other pricey brands.

I bought this to keep my horse dry and warm over the winter. It rained/snowed yesterday, and he was warm and dry under the blanket! For the price, this was the best buy. I only wish it came in better colors. For size, the last blanket I ordered ran big so I ordered a little smaller (he measures 80" I got a 78") and it fit him PERFECT.

Fabulouse Blanket, 12/2/2011

GREAT Blanket from Hillsboro, Oregon

Got this blanket for my mule and I was worried it would be slipping around on her all the time, but that was not the case. She is turned out 24/7 and the blanket has had a rip on it yet. It keeps her nice and toasty. The only thing about this blanket is it runs a little bit. I measured my mule and I got 72" so I orderd a 72" blanket and it is a little too big on her and slides back past her withers. Other than that is a great product.

Great Valu$ for $$, 11/22/2011

Iowalady from Cedar Rapids,Iowa

Have 4 horses, last year I needed to start replacing old blankets. Ordered 2 of this blanket, they went on and weathered an Iowa winter with no tears, etc. My horses are stabled with about 50 horses (they have stalls @night). These blankets have stood up GREAT to other horses chewing, etc. Horses stayed dry and healthy all winter. These two blankets are laundered and will go back on those 2 horses this winter. I respray all my old blankets with heavy duty water repellant from Dicks...helps them last about 5 years before buying new. I bought the 3rd as backup, but didn't need it last year. It will go on one of my other geldings this year and I just ordered the 4th for the remaining gelding for this year. They aren't long around the belly, but I prefer this so horses don't trip on anything getting up or down. You won't waste your $$ with this blanket.

These blankets last forever. I have one that has been worn for 6 years now and all my other saxon blankets are on there 3rd year. I will never buy any other brand but Saxon because they last so long. I wash mine all the time they are still in great condition. I watch everyone else replace blankets every winter and mine look great! Cannot beat this blanket. They are awesome!

Cams2007 from GA

A lot of people in our barn use Saxon blankets and I love the product. They tend to last a long time. I bought mine last winter and it doesn't have a single tear. My horses are on 24/7 turnout too. Only thing I seemed to have an issue with is it tends to be a little narrow in the shoulders (on my QH qnd my Arab).

Good Blanket-Good Price, 9/27/2011

Koty91TX from Weatherford, TX

Bought one last year (74) for my foxtrotter and it fit great. Held up through our abnormally cold north Texas weather and stayed waterproof. I did make one alteration to the blanket. I removed the permanent leg straps and added a D-ring to attach elastic leg straps. I really dislike solid leg straps! Other than those, I like the blanket and just bought another one last week for my Arabian (72) and it is also sized correctly. My only wish would be for the blanket to have attachments for a neck cover and offer the neck cover for purchase. May be sewing on more D-rings :-) but you can't beat the price for the quality of this blanket. My old Saxon light-weight blanket(bought from State Line Tack when it was in PetSmart) is still going strong.

Erika from Mooresville, IN

I've had this blanket for 2yrs now and it's held up wonderfully for both of my mares. They are outside pretty much 24/7 and are very hard on their blankets. I only had a few scratches and one minor tear to repair after last year and none so far this year. I would recommend this blanket to anyone looking for a durable low cost way to keep their horses warm!

Jackie from Carmel, IN

This blanket has been perfect for this harsh winter 2010/2011! Fits perfectly. I've had no problems with it and it is not showing any wear or tear. Fasteners all work well, though they are small, but seem to be holding up very well. It's my horse/pony's first blanket and I was afraid he would tear it up but he seems to actually like it. Perfect fit helps. Great quality for the money!! I would definitely recommend it.

Briana from Wy

I got this blanket two years ago for a 30 some year old mare to help her keep weight on in the winter. She was stalled and the blanket kept her a perfect temp, fit great and stayed in place. I am now using it on a horse that is out in pasture and it has help up really well, she is with 2 other horses that like to bite and it has one little tear. We can get a lot of snow and rain and she has stayed completely dry. It has been a really great blanket, going to get another.

Crappy hardware, not long enough, low quality, 1/25/2011

Jessica from Central, OH

I bought this a few months ago. First, the hardware is crap. Two of the snaps have broken already. The blanket isn't long enough, my geldings belly hangs out.. I've also seen this issue on several other people who own this blanket. I don't like the fabric, it's too stiff. But, you can't beat the price (even though I got it when it was $10 more). And the plaid color is a nice alternative to other companies who only offer plain colors. Overall, I would suggest spending the extra $ to get a better quality blanket!

great blanket, 1/15/2011

Jenn from Cincinnati, OH

I bought this for my 16.2 TB. He is incredibly long and blankets are often hard to buy for him, but the 81 fit him perfectly. We've had a really cold winter already and he has worn this almost every night for the last month or so and it has held up perfectly. He has also been turned out with it and even with all the "Gelding games" and blanket yanking the boys do, this blanket has held up perfectly. My only complaint is that it is short vertically, and cuts off his belly and most of his legs. I wish it were about 5-6 inches longer vertically, but for this price and durability I really can't complain.

CC from Athens, GA

I got this blanket from a friend who sold her horse, and now my horse is wearing it for the second winter! It does have a few small pulls, but mostly I'll be replacing it because I expect him to need a bigger size by next winter. It is a little short in the drop and would be better on a small framed horse, but overall its been great!

Was not long enough, 1/6/2011

Alexandra from West Chester, Pa

I bought this blanket for my WB who is 16.2. I never owned a saxon but have seen them on other horses. The main issue I had with this blanket is that it was not long enough. When put on, you could see his belly stick out below the blanket. I ended up having to buy him a new blanket that was longer to fit him. Also the first night he was put out in it, the next morning there was a whole in the outer shell. I would recommend the blanket for the price, but not for the fit or durability.

Awesome Blanket!, 12/16/2010

Brianna from Milwaukee, WI

This Balnket is the best blanket i have baught so far. It is very durable and easy to clean, and even looks good on my horse. The only bad thing is that when my more takes a crap, it gets caught in the tail flap and the back end the blanket. Not sure if my horse needs to lift his tail more, or the blanket needs to be more flexible, but the crap comes out well when i clean it.

Good quality and economical., 12/14/2010

Jess from Newark, Ohio

I ordered the plaid blanket for my gelding. I got an 81", but it's a bit big.. I wish they had an 80", or 79". The hardware is cheap, which I kind of expected. The blanket also seems short vertically- my gelding's belly hangs out even though it's a size or two too big. I've also seen another horse with this blanket that had the same problem. I'm overall satisfied with the purchase, it's a great blanket for the price! Really fast shipping, too!

Sturdy but short, 12/13/2010

Bonnie from Lebanon, VA

I bought this for my Standardbred who has been refusing to grow a winter coat for the past 8 years. The main complaint that I have is the length of the drop. It looks like a mini-skirt on him. It fits well from chest to tail, and it does a great job staying in place. No problems with wetness seeping through, no problems with tearing. I just don't like that it is so short. I have used Weatherbeeta products in the past and they were always longer, came down about midway between the elbow and knee, whereas this Saxon just barely comes below his elbow. I would probably recommend another Weatherbeeta product unless you are just looking to keep your horse dry.

average blanket, 12/13/2010

mndclark8666 from Columbus, IN

I purchased 5 of these and most of them so far are ok, but within the first two weeks one had a ripped tail flap from a pasture mate and another has a broken back snap. I noticed the strap hanging down and found that the snap's spring was no longer functioning. I also noticed after putting these on my horses that they are quite a bit shorter than my other blankets. They aren't as close to my horses knees and don't go below the belly nearly as far as my older blankets. I would like to exchange the one with the busted snap, but cannot find any warranty information.

Light weight, tough, 12/9/2010

Susan Butler from Santa Maria, CA

I bought this blanket for my PMU mare for rain turnout. I have used it for a month and it's holding up well even with my gelding pulling on it. Keeps the rain off and her heat in, but remember it's only a sheet, no padding. I like it when the weather warms up a little, still keeps her clean

Good, but not too durable. . ., 11/13/2010

Pam from Stafford, VA

I bought this blanket in blackberry plaid for my TB mare and for the most part, it's exceptional quality for the price (and color). But one of the leg strap buckles broke within the first 2 weeks of having it! Needless to say, I was disappointed, and it's probably too late to be able to exchange for another blanket. The spring in the latch assembly first jammed and then fell out, so the blanket is technically usable, but the latch/buckle freely opens now, risking the leg strap coming undone while my horse is turned out. I normally LOVE Saxon products and am happy to find a place that regularly carries them, but this was VERY disppointing!

LOVE IT!, 10/14/2010

Kayleigh from Ramstein, Germany

I've had this for about a year now and it has withstood a very rough German winter. I have a large Dutch Watmblood mare and not only does this look great on her, but it keeps her warm and dry during even the coldest months. So far, it's standing the test of time as well. Don't hesitate to make this purchase!

Great Turnout, 7/22/2010

Stephanie from

I bought this turnout blanket for my horse in the winter months and she never came in from the rain wet. I watched the rain just slip right over her back. It never leaked and has proven to be very durable. Highly recommend this turnout blanket!

Love this Blanket & Stateline Tack!, 4/27/2010

Stephanie from

I only blanket my horses if it gets below 20 degrees but a year ago February at the NSHA, I bought a small yearling filly that was body clipped. It was still pretty cold out and she really needed a blanket (my horses are outside horses with heavy coats in the winter), I ended up driving to 6 feed/tack stores but none of them had one small enough. My friend had a weanling size it was a little small but it worked until I got home to my computer & Stateline Tack! I ordered the "Blueberry" in a size 60, it came in 3 days and it fit her great after adjusting to the tightest fit. She wore it 24/7 for almost 3 months then at night for another 3 months it held up great in the pasture keeping her warm and snug! This year she has her heavy coat and when it got below 20 her blanket still fit her with adjustments. Overall the Saxon 1200 is a tough, warm, waterproof blanket, and you can't beat the price!

These Blankets are Totally Awesome, 3/9/2010

Suzy from

Hi. Not sure what the comment "good for small horses meant" but we have 6 horses (variety of breeds and sizes 13.1H to 16.2H) who are for the most part, "young". They love to play w/each others blankets (that are on 24/7 for several months straight); they pull them up and over heads, pull on front buckles, rear flaps, etc., all resulting in short lives for our blankets. BUT these, are not only warm and dry (critical for our area) but for our first time ever, they have withstood the beatings!!!I've ordered 6 to date and am ordering several more for myself and friends shortly. Thank you Horse.com!!!!!

EXCELLENT BLANKET FOR THE PRICE!, 3/9/2010

Brandy from

Bought this blanket 3 years ago for my TB mare who is very hard to winter. Since, she has been keeping weight on better and has less rain rot in the spring. She has been dry and warm for 3 winters straight despite all the rain and snow we have received. Very satisfied with the product and would reccommend it to anyone.

Not for really big horses, 3/1/2010

Ellen Covella from Camarillo, CA

Nice warm and waterproof blanket. Loved the color too. BUT it does not fit well on larger full bodied horses. While the body length, chest to tail, was appropriately sized, the blanket does not hang down on the sides enough to cover. And the neck gaped allowing more water to drip inside. It needs the velcrow in the front.

Great blanket, warm and waterproof. Love the color too. BUT it does not fit well on big horses. While the length chest to tail is appropriate size the sides of this blanket are short and do not hang down long enough to cover.

Quality not as expected, 1/22/2010

Lori from Green Bay, WI

I bought two of these last year. One for my Friesian cross and one for my TB. Both are turned out during the day only with different groups of 4 geldings. I've only been using them for two months. The first week one of the clips on the leg strap broke off. The next week the entire belly strap came detached and had to be restitched. Both have had numerous rips and tears. Not what I expected.

Durable, great choice for a smaller horse, 12/12/2009

Caralyn from Medford, MA

I bought this turnout last winter for each of my three horses (two thoroughbreds and a Morgan/Hannoverian cross), and all three blankets are still in GREAT shape! All three horses are outside 12-16 hours a day. The blankets all held up well as turnouts--and to my surprise, there was not a single tear in any of the outer material, although my Morgan/Hannoverian cross tore the lining of his. The blankets also held up well through MANY washings, and were easily re-waterproofed using Scotchguard. The two things I didn't like about this blanket were (1) the hardware on the leg straps--after a couple of weekd, the snaps would stick and became very difficult to attach/detach from the dees on the blanket; and (2) while this blanket fit my two 16-hand TBs well, the sides of the blanket ran too short to adequately cover my 15.3 hand (though considerably wider) Morgan/Warmblood cross. Overall, I'd highly recommend this blanket as a durable turnout suitable for daily use in cold and/or wet weather.

Horses warm and dry, 11/29/2009

Marcia from Bayfield, CO

I ordered two blankets for my Thoroughbred gelding and Arabian mare. Both horses are getting "older" and are not easy keepers. Cold autumn rains have taken their toll in past years, but this year has been different, thanks to the Saxon blankets. I dress them in their blankets (a surprisingly easy task) prior to the arrival of wet weather, and their coats stay warm and dry underneath. The blankets also stay "put", in spite of the fact that 8 other horses share the corral.

Awesome blanket!, 10/23/2009

Lizzy from PA

I bought two Saxon blankets, one for each of my horses. I've had both blankets for two or three years, and they are still in excellent condition! They are very durable and fit my horses well, and are 100% waterproof. They've kept my horses warm and dry all winter long, I love these blankets!

This blanket turned out to be nicer than I thought. It was a little big for my horse, but is still usable (he's growing). It's nice to look at and durable. I would definetly buy this blanket again.

Doesn't Fit Good, 1/23/2009

from VIrginia

The workmanship of this blanket is fine, but the fit is just not very good. We got 2 of these blankets for different horses, 1-a 15.2H medium build quarterhorse, the other a 16H large/big-bodied quarterhorse. The blanket is short on the sides on both horses, and just doesn't seem to fit very good. I was a bit disappointed.

sAXON tURNOUT BLANKETS ARE A WINNER, 1/14/2009

from Northeast, Florida

We purchased three Saxon turnout blankets for our pony stallions this winter. They are awesome. Water beads right up, ; and they are toasty warm even with the freezing temps this year. Seem to run slightly larger than size-but are still a great bargain! Thanks.

Good water protection, 10/16/2008

Pat from Lakes Region, NH

I needed a weatherproof turnout blanket since I can't get home incase of inclement weather. This blanket will meet my expectations and keep the girls dry and warm. I did measure but the blanket size is a little small but not so much I would consider returning. If your horse is 16 hands or larger I would get a size bigger than the 81" which is the size I bought but overall I am extremely with the price and quality.
