Rated 4 out of 5 by Saxon Fly Sheet Over all its good. A little tight in the shoulders. Get a slightly bigger one for horses with a broad chest. April 23, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by this old man is ruff on them Nice blanket for the money. I have tried other blankets with no luck. My gelding wears it 24/7, 365 days. This is the best because it also has the neck attached, which stays up w/out hooking to the halter. He rubs his mane also. I keep one extra for major rips, it is on a horse! April 8, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for the Price Great sheet for the price. It held up really well even though my horse wears it 24/7. The only complaint I had about it was that I bought it hoping that it wouldn't rub my horses shoulders and it did a little, but it held up really well and I've never found a sheet that doesn't rub his shoulders, so I think it's a horse error and not a sheet error. Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Fly Sheet, BUT...... This sheet wears like iron. My large pony recently wore out her first Saxon Combo fly sheet after using it for seven summers. It fits true-to-size and I love the shoulder gussets and belly band. HOWEVER, it does shift- about 3 inches to the right side of the pony's spine. I have attributed this to the fact that the belly band is stitched to the off side of the sheet while it attaches to the near side with two adjustable elasticized straps- makes the weight distribution uneven. I compensated by putting it on with the centre back about 3 inches to the left and it usually evened itself out in a very short time. Weatherbeeta has changed the belly band on its WB fly sheets so that they attach the same way on both sides- it is time that they did the same with their Saxon line. Then this economical sheet would be unbeatable value for the price. August 1, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by So far, so good - love the color I have a large Standardbred and this sheet fits her great. Does not, slip, bind and she can roll in it and I don't have to re-adjust. So far not rips or snags. The ears in the matching fly mask do have snags. June 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Question Since some people have been saying this sheet slips around, should I get one size smaller for my horse? Hes pretty good on his blankets but I don't want it slipping around since I do board him. June 21, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by constantly slips so the belly band is almost on th This sheet is not worth the money. It slips constantly, even after I had sewn weights on the other side to try to counter balance it & it is on a 28 year old gelding. Black flies get under the sheet. I am not pleased with it at all. June 10, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by fly proof but rubs This sheet protected my horse from the flies and sun really well. It slips to the side though and rubbed the hair off of her shoulders. Okay price for the quality June 4, 2012

I needed a new fly sheet that was lightweight, but had a belly strap. This seemed right because the price isn't too bad and it comes with the belly strap and a neck flap.

needed for my horse when camping.

First time I have ever bought a fly sheet. My horse was getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, and I decided to try one of these. I guess I will find out how well it works. I wanted one with a belly band that wasn't too expensive.

Does your horse get hot wearing this fly sheet? I have a Kensington fly sheet right now and I have to take it off of my mare in the high 80 degree temperatures. I am looking for a sheet she can wear 24/7 because she gets huge welts when the deer flies are biting.
Megan S on Jun 23, 2014
Best Answer: Hi Megan. He gets slightly sweaty mid day but very little sweat on the shoulders and where the little rubber Saxon label is. He has bad fly allergies and this sheet, out of three different ones I have used, he sweats the least in. I take the bad wth the's either him being a little sweaty or an allergic reaction to too many fly bites. He wears this sheet 24/7 with no problems! I get him out every day and take it off for at least an hour and let him roll and play with no sheet so he does get a break and time dry up his little bit of sweat. I'm not sure how it would be for a horse that stays all day in it with no break. Hope this helps! This is great fly sheet!! Thank you!

On the pictures it does not show the gray and purple with a belly band, just two straps. The description states that there is a belly band, is there actually a belly band for the gray and purple or is just the white hunter and frappe rust sheets that have the belly band?
diamond-c on May 12, 2015
Best Answer: All of the colors of the Saxon SoftMesh Combos have the belly band. I have found these to be the best for my horses, young Arabians out on a pasture with trees and bushes. With all of the deer flies, horse flies, and general pests, no more big welts on the horses, especially with the belly band. It also helps with culicoides (spelling).

any uv protection rating on this sheet?
jp t on May 11, 2014
Best Answer: I don't believe there is any. My horse was started getting sun bleached early last summer and I bought this fly sheet any way because he has fly allergies, and it actually helped. He wears his Saxon fly sheet everyday and his coat looks great and the sheet has held up for over a year. I just bought another one so I can swap out for washing!

I am deciding between the Mio Flysheet and the Saxon softmesh combo fly sheet. Both have attached neck covers and only a small dollar amount difference. Any suggestions in choosing between the two?
J U on Mar 23, 2014
Best Answer: I have used the Saxons for years and tried the Mios a couple years ago. Love the fit, but they only have belly straps, not the belly cover. Big difference! Went back to Saxon because of that and the price. Now I see the price is really up on the Saxon, but will probably go ahead and get them because of the cover on the belly. I have 7 horses that go out to pasture, so the belly protection is huge for them.
