Product Summary:

Tough-1 1200 Denier Snuggit Turnout Blanket

Protect your horse with the Tough-1 1200 Denier Snuggit Turnout Blanket. The Tough-1 1200 Denier Turnout Blanket's material is breathable, which allows your horse to stay comfortable. This blanket has all the features you will want in a horse blanket.

Features:

  • 1200 Denier Poly - Heavy Material Strength- Recommended for horses that may bite or chew on blanket or horses turned out with a companion or in groups. Material may tear or rip if caught on a nail, rough fencing or thorns from bushes. Adjustable Neck- easily adjust to create a custom fit.
  • 200g Polyfill- Provides medium warmth and protection from wind and rain.
  • 210 Denier Poly Lining - Prevents rubbing and helps to keep the coat shiny while preventing hair, shavings, and straw from sticking to the inside of the blanket.
  • Waterproof - coated outer shell with taped seams and seamless spine repels water to keep your horse dry.
  • Breathable - Designed to allow moisture vapor to pass wick away from the horse and preventing sweating while retaining body heat and repelling outside coldness.

  • Reinforced Stress Points - Double Sewn with additional reinforcement to help prevent tears.

  • Adjustable Elastic Leg Straps - Help to secure the blanket and prevent from shifting from side to side.
  • Tail Cover -provides additional protection from moisture near tail bone.
Specifications:
  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group.

Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear.

Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

How heavy is this blanket..Live in FL Winters are here one day, gone the next...only blanket for under 50...
AND..How true to fit do you find the blanket?
Thank you.
A shopper on Feb 16, 2014
Best Answer: This blanket is pretty warm. I live in La Pine Oregon where winter is cold. When it gets single digit and below zero I add a fleece liner and hood. Mine was true to size, nice long sides, and I love the front closure snap feature - very quick and strong and adjustable. The snuggit neck is a great help to keep out the cold better. 1200D is nice and tough for that outside layer, adds to the warmth because it keeps out the wind so well. This might be too warm for Florida but the $50 price sounds good, I paid $80 on sale for mine. Maybe the $50 one is not as warm so would be okay.

is the front closures like a belt buckle or does it have the metal clips that are easier and faster to take off and on?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2014
Best Answer: It actually has both. The first time you put it on you can fully adjust the fit with a belt buckle like adjuster, but then the fittings are all the easy on off metal clips. I got one of these blankets for all three of my horses and they are the best fit, easy to deal with blankets and have held up to a lot of abuse.

Is this blanket water proof and breathable?
A shopper on Nov 19, 2014
Best Answer: Like all Tough-1 products in the past, it is water proof with no top seam. It is breathable to help avoid over heating. The new "snuggit" feature is a Velcro adjustable feature at the neckline. Notice the "black collar"? That is where there is a pull tight loop with a Velcro tab to lift the front on the chest. Quite a nice feature from my point of view to custom these already very adjustable blankets.

is this blanket warm enough for 10 year old horses in a climate that rarely gets below 25F but sometimes dips to single digits?
m l on Dec 18, 2014
Best Answer: I would think so. My QH mare is 25 years old. I blanketed her when I first got her in 1998. I stopped when she went from NY to AZ. We returned to WNY 3 years ago. I had thrown out her old stable blanket. But since she has been loosing a bit of weight I put the Turnout Blanket last week. A healthy 10 year old should certainly do fine with this weight level especially if if their winter coat is developed. I would rather have less than more when it comes to winter blankets. Remember blanketing is an unnatural condition for horses to begin width. Their hair pili control the lift/loft and heat control. Sweating and moisture buildup can lead to problems. By blanketing my older horse my goal is to preserve calories expended to keep warm and hopefully keep some fat on during the winter. I give a rice bran supplement and she is on senior feed/hay. I hope this helps.

Would this blanket work for horses in Minnesota or should I get a blanket that could provide more warmth? If so, what blanket would you recommend?
SweetieSweets on May 31, 2015
Best Answer: I live in NJ & the blanket worked for our winter temperatures which averaged around freezing during day & low 20s at night. We did have some colder night temps in single digits & teens but that was not the norm. My horse is also in a barn at night although it is not heated. Hope this helps.

Have clips on the shoulder part for a neck cover?
A shopper on Feb 11, 2015
Best Answer: The blanket has D rings above the shoulder to allow a neck cover to be added. There are not clips, but the rings...which is great for us who don't use the neck piece. Hope that helps! I love this blanket by the way. I've used many over the years...much more expensive ones. This is the only blanket for me and my horses from now on.

What are the buckles made of and is the cover Nylon 1200D. Where are you located?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2014
Best Answer: All the buckles are medal. This blanket is honestly a awesome blanket. My horse rolls around in it and all the buckles stay attached without coming unbuckled. It also gives you the option to add a neck piece if you wish to do so. Along with an adjustable chest piece if its to loose or to tight. All straps are adjustable to fit your horse just right. Its a great quality blanket and I'm very very happy with it. It does its job, thats for sure and I really can't wait to see what it'll do as we go into our winter season. I bought a heavier one, because here in Michigan, we do get some harsh winters. The heavier one has an attached neck piece though. Doesn't come off and its 300 grams. 1200 Denier. I really would recommend these blankets.

After a wash, will this blanket stay waterproof? If so, what detergent should i wash it with?
Nikki B on Mar 14, 2014
Best Answer: This is my first horse blanket purchase. I was very pleased w the fit and my horse loves it too. On washing blankets, well from what I've read there are horse blanket shampoos and all kinds of tips online. Never put one in dryer or use regular detergent bc it will decrease waterproofing. Front loaders are best and bring it to laundry Matt if your machine cant handle the size.

Have a App gelding who is long, leggy, and has shoulder rubs from other blankets. Has level top line. Have trouble with getting the surcingles short enough without putting knots in them. He is 15 3 and 80 long. Will this work, or is there another blanket that might be better?
A shopper on Feb 5, 2015
Best Answer: I have 3 of these blankets which I use on my Qtr horse paint and Appy gelding. The Appy has a 78 and the others are 76 and they all fit great and do not leave wear marks even after being on for a week. Because of the adjustable straps that cross under to fasten the blanket you can adjust to fit. I only use these when the temp is going to be below freezing as they tend to sweat around the lower belly if temp gets above 40. They have worked well keeping them dry in the rain and snow and stay on even when they roll.

In a cold place would this keep my horse warm?
bob r on Dec 7, 2014
Best Answer: Hi Bob, these blankets are the only one's that I buy. I live where it never gets above the 30 here in the winter and they do keep the horses warm but never sweat. I have a few colts that r very hard on blankes and these r the only one's that holdup to them. Rhonda

how do i determine what size i need?
A shopper on Feb 10, 2015
Best Answer: Measure your horse for the correct blanket size by following these easy guidelines:
1) Stand your horse square.
2) Place your measuring tape at the center of the chest.
3) Measure from the middle of the chest to the center of the tail one side. and that is the horse's blanket size.
