  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
  • When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group. Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear. Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Good blanket, but NOT water PROOF water RESISTANT I bought 4 of these blankets and yes they are nice, my horses can stay in them out in the pasture(with woods) and not tear them up. I wash them in the washing machine and hang them to dry. (Don't take long to dry either) and they are still GREAT! They are very good at keeping them warm on windy days and are great for LIGHT rain for SHORT periods of time! Or a light rain, no rain for a while then light rain again. But even a LIGHT rain to even a mist for a long time(over night and early part of the day) and these WILL leak through! NOT just the neck and tail areas! I mean right down the back line under the blanket my horses get WET. So I do not like the description, but if the description is changed to water RESISTANT then these would be WONDERFUL blankets. My horses are always very cozy on WINDY days! (We had 20 to 40 MPH winds the other day and they still stayed very warm under the blankets!) November 25, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not worth it! My horse wore this for one night when it was 45 degrees out and within an hour, he was completely drenched in sweat! He normally wears a canvas storm blanket that's much heavier and warmer and he never sweats in it even when it's up to 70 degrees outside. I thought that this would be a great lighter sheet as it is really thin, but it's not breathable at all! Very disappointing and I purchased a new sheet for him that functions much better. Rated 5 out of 5 by AWSOME BLANKET I have had two of these blankets and both worked out fantastic November 9, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Okay but..... Bought 3, one for my Appaloosa, one for my haflinger, and one for my miniature. Miniature managed to put holes in the outer shell within a week Haflinger managed to slip out of it and leave it in the middle of the pasture. Good blanket, but not for a horse that rubs or is really hyper or an escape artist. August 1, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Blanket lasted exactly 2 days Somehow my horse managed to rip it to shreds, actually tearing it in two complete peices down the middle. No low tree limbs, smooth polycord fencing, don't know how he got it so mangled. The buckles hold up well though, as do the elastic leg straps, it was still buckled around his whithers (the front buckles) and the other half of the blanket was dragging about 5 feet behind him on the ground by the leg straps! The saying is true, you get what you pay for I guess. March 26, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by GREAT BLANKET! Bought this blanket for my 3 1/2 year old filly 1 month ago she can be very hyper when she runs around with it on and I must say this blanket has held up great! Is still keeping her really warm and DRY! havent had 1 tear on it yet and she really tests this blanket out. February 15, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Ripped after 3 uses!!!! The blanket fell apart!! It has been on my horse, MAYBE, 3 times this winter and was brand new 3 months ago. It hasn't rained much in CA this year so my horse hasn't really needed it. But this past Tuesday i put it on as it was supposed to rain, i came out the next day to take it off to find it hanging off my horse! It had somehow completely ripped from the withers down the back. i am dissappointed in the product and will not be getting another. On the plus side it was only $40...but that's $40 that i could put towards a better blanket! February 10, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Impressed! so, bought cheap blankets as it has been my experience that when one puts a turn-out rug on a tb in the field it will only last one season... if you are VERY lucky. turns out, these blankets are better than some of the expensive rugs i've bought :) kept them dry with howling winds, frigid (for nothern cali) and a years worth of rain in two days. i assumed they would be soaked through and went to pull them off this evening, only to be shocked to find that the horses are still dry under them. my person approval to tough one turnout blankets! takes a lot for me to give my personal endorsement, but for $50 each, (and they come in violent pink) i feel i've already gotten my money's worth :D January 21, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great blanket! This blanket came on my horse five years ago! Naturally, it's needed a couple of patches, but it has remained remarkably waterproof! It's plenty warm for my TB in the winter. I am only now about to buy him a new tough-1 blanket because two young horses tore a 1 foot square hole in the hind end. It had a good run! January 20, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Great fit but terrible fabric I have never seen a blanket that ripped so easily. My mellow 19 year old mare was turned out alone and still put several rips in this blanket. I will never buy another Tough-1 blanket, no matter how cheap the price. I think material this wimpy should not be used on a horse blanket- it is actually a safety hazard! After too many rips, I threw this blanket in the trash :( January 9, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible I bought this blanket for my horse who is very easy on blankets and is in a pasture with one horse who is older and very well behaved. The buckles didn't fit right so they always came undone and ended of ripping from being stepped on. The material is cheap and tears very easily I had it for 2 weeks and it completely fell apart. Do not buy this blanket save your money and buy a better quality blanket that will last long. December 28, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Lasted less than 45 days I am very disappointed with the quality of this blanket. My horse only wears it at night and sleeps in the barn and it didn't even make it for 45 days. He is not tough on blankets either. The outer shell is torn and one of the surcingle buckle's stitches have torn out. Now I know why the price was so low. It's CHEAP! December 16, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by I love this blanket! I bought this blanket for my 28 year old mare. It has kept her warm and DRY in a couple of very cold windy rain/ice storms! We have had unseasonably cold wet weather that would have had her shivering and wet without this blanket. This blanket appears to run a bit big. My mare measured 73 in. so I ordered the next size up, 75, as was recommended on the sizing chart and I think a 69 would've fit. December 10, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by NOT GOOD AS TURNOUTS I bought one of the lighter denier sheets and these are not good as a turnout. Maybe as a liner but it is deffinatly not waterproof or ripstop. Save your money and buy a quality blanket. November 29, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Dont wast your money This is a very cheaply made blanket mine had 4 rips in only a week. Dont wast your money on this blanket. I will not buy from tough 1 anymore. Iam very very dissapointed with there products. November 28, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by BAD BLANKET 1 This is the worst blanket I have ever bought! I have fixed them more then the horse has ever wore it! I would never buy one again or suggest anyone to buy one ever! It rips way to easy, if the horse touches anything it rips, if another horse touches it rips! I hate them! BAD BUY! November 24, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Lasted only 1 Week This blanket looked great and fit well, but was manufactured of extremely thin fabric. My mare wore it a total of 4 TIMES before it was ripped completely through both the outer shell and inner linings. If your horse is stabled alone inside it may last, but don't expect to use it for turnout AT ALL!!! Tough 1??? NOT!!! November 22, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't bye I bought the blanket before the rain started getting bad around here. Put it on my girl, came back in the morning to find her very damp underneath. So much so that she ended up with rain scald. I tried to return it and couldn't because it was over the 30 day return policy and there has been no response from the manufacture. Don't buy. I will not purchase anything else from Tough-1. November 21, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not a good product I bought the tough one turn out blanket. I was very dissapointed in the blanket. It arrived on Friday, put it on Friday night, turned mare out Saturday. Brought her that afternoon to find that the blanket was ripped on the front where the straps fasten. One days wear and the blanket rips. I would not recommend this blanket to anyone. I wish I hadn't bought it. The ratings I would not have chosen any of them if you could have wrote the review with chosing one. The price was very good. the product just wasn't November 21, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product I luv the colors and they fit my 3 horses perfect would recommend to everyone.. November 14, 2011

Why did you choose this? Store
needed a new blanket and a lighter one love the bright green color I can always see my horse even in the pitch black we get here when we feed in the winter
TERRI R on May 28, 2015
I absolutely love this blanket. It keeps my thoroughbred incredibly warm and dry, and besides getting it dirty, he hasn't torn any holes in it. It doesn't rub his shoulders which is surprising considering he's 17 hands and almost everything rubs them.
VICTORIA B on Mar 16, 2015
These blankets hold up nicely. I used one on my younger gelding for several winters. When it was time to buy new blankets, I bought one for each of my geldings.
JULIE G on May 18, 2015
Not to heavy but just right to make horses still hair up for winter but not to heavy that they shed all their hair off. Good for winter and stand up to the wind and rain.

is a good blanket for in the winter where it is going to be snowing?
courtney on Jun 12, 2015
Best Answer: Yes this will work in the snow but it is only 420 denier & 150g filling so it is not for hard use or is it very warm in super cold temps. I rarely blanket. I allow my horses to grow thick winter coats and they have shelters. I purchased this for my draft cross as an emergency blanket in an ice storm or the like. I have various weight blankets for my other horses depending upon their age & how thick their winter coats are. If your horse is easy on
blankets this will work for occasional use.

Is this a good product to use in the winter? If not someone put in the answers on other products that would work on this website because I'm almost a breaking point with finding a winter blanket and it's coming up fast. It's supposed to snow Saturday and my horse doesn't have a blanket because she ripped a giant hole please help! I live in north east.
A shopper on Oct 30, 2014
Best Answer: Hello - this blanket is VERY lightweight. You need something with 250 fill or higher for a good winter blanket. This one is 'just what it is', nicely made product but really more of a sheet than a blanket. NO really cheap blankets that work - Tough 1 good product, priced right but I would say near 80-100 dollars or more for the blanket you want. Also the higher the denier - 1000, 1200 1600 etc....makes the fabric stronger - so less likely to rip. Hope this helps. 420 600 are on the lower end of quality fabrics, but the 600 works and it makes the blanket affordabe.

Is this blanket the really think blanket that keeps the horse warm and not the thin covering ?
Al L on Mar 30, 2014
Best Answer: Its not that thick its nice because its not too heavy nor too light, it sits nicely on my horse. Although I put it on my horse once and the back leg strap broke so durability on my end was not good, but other than the strp breaking its a great blanket for windy nights,a rainy day, or to keep your horse dry.

Is it very heavy duty?
Paige W on Jan 1, 2015
Best Answer: No. as the manufacturer states 420 Denier...which would mean if you have a horse that is hard on blankets, ripping or otherwise destroying blankets you need to move up to a high Denier on to Ballistic Nylon. Something in the 1000 Denier or better range.

As for the gram fill, manufacturer states it is 150grams. Depending on where you live and the annual winter average temperature this may or may not work. I am in an area that we see temperatures get into the teens for a week or so, but have continuous rain. This gram weight works fine. However, if in a colder climate and your horse does not grow a decent coat, or is a breed with thin skin like a Thoroughbred, you might want to consider a higher gram fill, such as 250 grams. If you stall your horse at night, you might only need a stable sheet and no blanket during the day with temps over 35°F. There are several articles on line that you can find through your favorite search engine that will offer a wider base for your blanketing education. Best of luck.

I have a 61.2 hand horse the blanket she has on now is 80" and it is a bit small, will a 84" be to big and I was looking for a waterproof with a belly strap blanket. She is my first horse, and the owner before me stalled her most of the time, now she is in a pasture,do I really need a blanket for her?
A shopper on Dec 16, 2014
Best Answer: We have a 17 hand thoroughbred which equals out to be 68 inches and I bought a size 84 for him and it's plenty big for him. I'm thinking you made a mistake with the hands that you put down and maybe you have a 16.2 hand horse or even a 15.3 hand as each hand equals 4 inches so am thinking an 84 might be a little bit big. Unless he's on the bulkier side as our thoroughbred is not. And depending on how cold it is and how good of a shelter you have you may or may not need to blanket him. If he has a good winter coat...nice and thick and you have a good shelter you may not need to blanket him. If he shivers and/or doesn't have a thick coat and/or you don't have very good shelter you will definitely want to blanket him. As I'm not sure where you live or what the temperature is like it's hard for me to say. If it gets down to 10 or below the above statements I made are pretty accurate. Hope this helps.

I am looking for a waterproof turnout blanket for snow, rain and ice for a belgian. what would you recommend?
A shopper on Nov 9, 2014
Best Answer: if you are looking for good blanket for this type of weather, you need 300+ fill or better. This one won't do it. The higher the Denier, the tighter the fabric, the warmer it is also. Look for Turnouts, those are waterproof not stable blankets/sheets. This particular blanket is a little more than a sheet - by the way, fill only 150.

Are u doing any specials for cyber Monday?
Donny W on Nov 29, 2014
Best Answer: Interesting how they pass these posts on. :) If they do offer sale prices they will change on Monday - sometimes they say all items on sale, but are not when you get there :) My experience with them their products are good and are fairly priced to begin with..........but once you buy you will get coupon for $$$ off the next purchase, it that item qualifies. Some do not as they are reduced so much already. Happy I am just a customer
