Specifications:

  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.

  • When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group. Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear.  For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear. Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

Very happy with this purchase., 12/28/2012

Paula from Winters CA

I love this blanket. My horse looks great in it and he is a goofball that stands in the pouring rain when he could be inside and he rolls with it on. After six weeks it still looks new cleans easily and keeps him completely dry in the heaviest downpour.

Excellant blanket, 12/26/2012

Texas Horse owner from Georgetown, Texas

I have 4 of the Tough 1 600 blankets in Burgandy. In 4th season of use and my horses are in the pasture with Barn access. They have held up great. I have patched two small areas that were caused by bitting but other than that this is a tough blanket. Central Texas does not see a lot bad weather but we see a lot cold fronts with cold bitter winds that get down in the teens not counting the wind chill factor. Loooking forward to more winter seasons with these blankets. Follow the care directions at the end of each season and you will thankful you purchased this product. More than pleased with this blanket!

great blanket, great price, 12/21/2012

christy from London Ont

I was a bit concerned about ordering this blanket after the reviews, but I glad I did. I ordered the pink ( man it is BRIGHT!) for my 16h TB mare. One her second night of wearing we had about 8hrs of rain followed by snow. I was expecting to find her wet... but she was totally DRY! Sizing is right on to. Great blanket for the price.

nice fit. POOR quality, 12/1/2012

Tough 1 Denier Turn-out blanket from Olympia, EA

My older mare loved the fit of this blanket, comfortable for her. She is NOT hard on blankets, but after 2 days had a rip in blanket, a couple days later, another rip and numerous holes. Her last blanket lasted for about 4 years, I just wanted to get her smaller better fit one now. Definitely good priced blanket relatively, however, not for a blanket that lasts less than 2 weeks of wear.

Great blanket, 11/20/2012

Courtney from Roseland, VA

I bought two Tough-1 600 Dernier Turnout blankets and am SO pleased with the quality, fit, and durability. So far, my two senior horses have only been in the barn with them on, but I anticipate no durability issues with leaving the blankets on when they're out in the field. Very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend these blankets!

Like it, 10/18/2012

Tatiana from Maryland

I am surprised to read all the negative reviews. The blanket fits well, I didn't have any problems with buckles or anything else,it seems durable (I don't have any wholes yet), it looks very neat. I like it, and I like the price too.

Durable, functional, good-looking blanket, 4/14/2012

Sarah from Phoenix, AZ

Upon extensive research on blankets in my price range, I settled on this one. I bought three for my three horses (2-, 3-, and 15-year-old QH mares) in blue, lime green, and pink. The colors are so pretty and vibrant, and the blankets are cozy. Arizona winters aren't too harsh, but these blankets block out wind, rain, mud, and cold well. My horses get let out every day to a pasture with trees, so I'm surprised at how well these blankets have held up. After a couple months of use, the blankets are still in excellent shape - no rips, tears, or holes. Needless to say, I'm VERY pleased with these blankets, especially for the price! As for those reviewers whose blanket rigging has ripped, it's probably because the straps were too tight. The straps need to stay somewhat loose so the horses can move and roll!

Amazing, 2/21/2012

Lisa from Fennimore, Wisconsin

Where we live we get alot of wind & of course Wisconsin winters,my crew need's the protection so I ordered my first blanket, put it on my horse & it fits perfect! Plus he really likes it, he's comfortable & it stays in place even if he rolls. I have tried other blankets & just love this style/design of it & so does my horse. I recently order another one to try another horse (he's really hard on blankets)it's doing great the only thing he has done is ripped out both back leg straps on the 5th day of wearing it, but overall it's holding up well. Love these blanket & I am ordering more for the rest of my horse!! Can't beat the price either! Highly recommend!! Lisa from Wisconsin
