Specifications:

  • Measuring Instructions - Stand your horse as square as possible, measure from the center of chest around side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If you horse ends up measuring between sizes always round up to the next size to ensure full coverage.
  • Washing Instructions - Machine wash with cold water – Gentle cycle with mild detergent. Air Dry or Machine Dry/No Heat
  • Horses Turned Outside without Shelter - Turnout Sheet and Blanket materials are waterproof and designed to keep your horse dry, however if your horse is turned out in a field without a run in shed or shelter during prolonged rain or heavy downpours your horse may still get wet especially in the neck and tail areas.
  • When using a blanket or sheet it is critical to monitor the fluctuating climate and temperatures even with a blanket that is waterproof and breathable. The wicking properties of a breathable blanket are designed to wick away normal body heat, when a blanket is too heavy the heat and moisture cannot be wicked away fast enough causing your horse to sweat. The temperature and the length of your horse’s coat will determine what weight of blanket you should use. For this reason, most people who choose to blanket horses have several articles of horse clothing that offer varying levels of warmth.
  • When selecting a blanket ensure to take into account your horse’s behavior, environment or other horses that may be turned out with your horse. The lower the denier number the less strength the material has. 420 Denier and 600 Denier are not recommended for horses that bite, chew or rub on blankets or for horses turned out with a companion or in a group. Always ensure your horse’s blanket is properly fitted and all straps are adjusted correctly, if a blanket is too tight or too loose, straps may break and material may tear. For younger horses or horses turned out with a companion or in groups, it is recommended to purchase 1200 Denier or 1680 Denier material as these are stronger materials and are less likely to tear. Certain types of fencing such as barbwire or foreign objects such as nails will easily tear any blanket no matter what the denier, always inspect the area in which your horse is kept to remove any nails or jagged fencing that may cause damage. There are no horse blankets that are guaranteed to not rip or tear.

How does the closure work on the chest? Buckle? Velcro?
A shopper on Nov 13, 2014
Best Answer: It is a double buckle. The nice thing about the front of this is it has loops to tuck the ends of the straps into so they don't rub on the horse's chest. I like it and my horse moves well and is comfortable day or night out in the pasture

I have a very elderly mare, age 30. She is in great shape for her age but is thin, as most older horses are. She measures 70-71". I have tried numerous sizes on her, but because of her being thin, non seem to really fit. Any ideas?
Julies on Nov 29, 2015
Best Answer: I purchased this blanket for my 32 year old quarter horse gelding. He was also very thin. I measure him by the instructions and it was a good fit. Sadly he did not get to wear it that long. I had to put him down last December. However I have gotten another horse and it fits her Really like it. Would buy again

What size rug would fit a horse 15.3-16 hands?
Francesca E on Nov 29, 2015
Best Answer: You should always measure the horse before you order a blanket:
Stand your horse as square as possible. Measure from the center of the chest along the side of the body to the point of the horse's rump just before the tail. If your horse ends up measuring between sizes, choose the one closest to your measurement unless your horse is particularly big-bodied.
Measuring is usually best done with a helper and a soft or cloth measuring tape. Take the measurement twice to be sure.

Is the blanket waterproof?
kayla C on Oct 11, 2015
Best Answer: Yes it's waterproof but in a heavy drenching rain they're still probably going to get a little damp so best to still have some sort of shelter for your horse if he/she is out. Definitely will keep them dry in normal rainfall.

Now that I learned from question below that Denier is fabric toughness,how does one know what to get for warmth? I have 2 blankets on and thought the different deniers felt heavier as they went up so thought it was warmth too!? :*{
Margaret A on Nov 30, 2015
Best Answer: A higher denier would make the outer layer heavier simply because there would be more thread-count in the material, but it would not really add to the warmth factor.

Here is a general suggestion guideline for blanketing horses:
IF STABLED AND CLIPPED
TEMPERATUREBLANKET
70*.- 100* anti-sweat sheet, fly sheet or nothing
50* - 60*stable sheet
40*lightweight blanket
30*med weight blanket
20*heavyweight blanket
0* - 10*heavyweight blanket and hood
Below 0* - minus 30* double blanket and hood

IF HORSE IS TURNED OUT AND NOT CLIPPED
TEMPERATURE
70* - 100*anti-sweat sheet, turnout fly sheet or nothing
50* - 60*turnout sheet or nothing
40* lightweight blanket
30*med weight turnout blanket
20*med weight turnout blanket
0* - 10*med weight or heavyweight turnout blanket
Below 0* - minus 30* heavyweight turnout blanket and hood
