works okay
I have not found anything that really helps with no-see-ums but this product works as well or better than anything else I've tried. One of the few products that none of my horses have had a negative reaction to.

Best I've Ever Used
I've tried all sorts of fly repellent products. Some are pretty good, others not so much. Ultrashield Red is the best BY FAR. My horses are so much less bothered by flies with this. It seems to also work great for chiggers - a huge bonus here! The only fly repellent in my barn now.

Helps reduce midge fly irritation
We have a horse that is sensitive to midge flies. This is one product that actually lists this as one of the insects that they control. Our mare has had less trouble than in the past.

pretty decent fly spray
No product that I've used actually works for more then an hour maybe two at best. This product works for about that long, vs other products that seem to only work for about 15 minutes. Battling flies in a boarding facility in San Diego. lots of flies..and when the other horses aren't on feed through controls its pretty hard to battle the flies.

Not effective
Used Ultrashield for first time, just prior to loading my horse in trailer, after thorough brushing. Arrived at ride destination 20 minutes later and theflies and other insects started feasting on him. Will not be buying again!

Does this really work?
A shopper on May 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, we think Ultra Shield (red or black) is effective, but our preferred fly repellent now - after some more research - and trial and error - is a new product from a small company in GA (they have really nasty sand gnats and flies down there) that is something called Equine Relief - and it comes with Sunscreen too. It's all we use now.
