How do you measure what size girth your horse needs?
Shelly M on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Place the saddle and pad you intend to use on the horse and measure from about the first girth billet hole on one side, underneath the horse to about the first girth billet hole on the other side.

If you don't yet have the saddle and pad, you can also measure from about a hands-width above the horse's elbow underneath to the same position on the other side.

Alternatively you can borrow other girths to try on and measure the length of which ones fit, from tip to tip.

You want the new girth to just be able to reach the first or second girth billets on either side when you first put it on. This gives you room to tighten. Also, both girths and the saddle's girth billets will stretch over time.
