Best to hold up
This item is great I have used a lot of grazing muzzles I like the fact that it has 4 straps that attach to the halter it's less likely the horse can get its nose out of it , however they need to come up with a heavier rubber insert disk , my horse had it chewed out in no time, i cut another one out of an old barn boot & cut a hole in the middle & it's perfect

Tried it hoping for a stronger grazing muzzle
Our horses don't crib. We have tried a variety of grazing muzzles and our horses always manage to punch through the thin rubber bottom in all of them in a very short time. We tried this product hoping that the metal bars would help the rubber insert last longer. Our mare had the insert punched through in a few days, and my gelding figured out how to flip the insert and eat all he wanted. We have a lot of punched through grazing muzzles with straps and baskets in good shape. This product and all others need a thicker rubber bottom that is harder to punch through. Or perhaps a thicker insert for this and a better way to secure it.

Hope you can sew
This is an OK product if you know how to sew. Within 2 days of having this all the stitching on the velcro came out. I used some heavy duty thread and restitched it by hand. I'm by no means amazing at sewing, but so far my stitching has held up better than the original. By now I have redone all the stitching and it is holding up well. On the positive side the padding is nice. So overall this is an ok product if you can sew, but otherwise it's a waste of money.

Works well
I am utilizing this muzzle as a grazing muzzle. I removed the very smelly rubber guard (It just pulls out. I do not use the rubber guard.) The muzzle was very easy to attach to the breakaway halter that I bought at horse.com. It works well to reduce their consumption to aid in weight control.

Horse can't eat and won't drink while wearing this huge muzzle.
This was huge on my 16H horse. Best for draft size or up. Had strong petroleum odor when new. Still has smell after sitting out for a few weeks. My horse tried, but was unable to eat while wearing it. Also tried to crib, but couldn't. So, it is effective to prevent cribbing, but also will prevent eating and drinking. Glad it was cheap as it was a waste of money for my cribber and not worth the shipping to send back.

Worst muzzel ever for grazing!
My horse chewed through the rubber bottom in one day and you cannot buy replacement rubber bottoms. I don't need a cribbing muzzle, only a grazing muzzle. I purchased this one since the price was very reasonable; however, it was money wasted. It lasted one day and now it is useless to me since you cannot get rubber replacement bottoms. Also, the rubber bottom that came with it was not durable at all. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT UNLESS YOUR HORSE ONLY CRIBBS.

keeps them from getting so fat!
Be prepared to replace the rubber disc-I use 7" round bale betting, cut to size, it holds up much longer.

Great muzzle for a horse who needs some resticting on grazing, without frustration!
This Cribbing muzzle we only use as a grazing muzzle. We take out the rubber part, and use the bars only. Its more "humane" in my opinion for our horses, who need some restriction to grazing but totally give up when faced with a small hole in the bottom of a rubber mask. This one lets them see they can eat, though not ravenously, and we an always add the rubber part if we need them to get off the grass altogether for a number of hours. It keeps our easy -keeper horses from foundering and they don 't feel as frustrated! What a perfect combination. Our horses are not easy on muzzles, and these have held up well with daily use. I am buying a bunch so when we wear them out, we are ready with another. THese are especially nice for horses who are pasture kept and yet don't need near total restriction of their diet, but who would still possibly founder if they ate day and night. It helps to keep their weight from increasing and keeps them happy to still get some grass!

Cheaply made
I put this muzzle on my horse on Friday night and by Friday Morning she had manipulated it enough that the stitching was broken away from the velcro strips. It is poorly made. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

EXCELLENT A++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I HAVE BOUGHTEN 6 RUBBER MASKS AND MY PONY HAS RIPPED AND BROKEN THE RUBBER ON EACH ONE IN JUST A FEW HOURS.I THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE THIS ONE A TRY SINCE ALL THE OTHERS ALL GOTTON DESTORED BY MY PONY . I HAD TO KEEP HIM CONFINED IN THE CORRAL BECAUSE ,IF HE FOUNDERS ONE MORE TIME , IT COULD KILL HIM. THIS GRAZING MUZZLE WAS A BLESSING. THERE IS NO RUBBER EXCEPT ON THE BOTTOM WHERE THE REMOVEABLE ROUND DISC IS AND THERE IS A HOLE THERE FOR HIM TO EAT VERY LITTLE . I DID A LITTLE ADJUSTING TO HIS HALTER TO MAKE IT FIT BETTER, AND ADDED TIES TO THE 4 SIDES TO GIVE IT EXTRA REINFORCING ONCE THE VELCRO IS INPLACE. THIS REALLY HELPED SO HE CAN NOT RUB IT OPEN ONCE THE VELCRO IS PRESSED DOWN. THIS IS TRULY A EXCELLENT MUZZLE AND IT SEEMS THIS ON MUCH ROOMER THEN THE OTHER MUZZLES HE HADS TRIED.

Have had great luck with these in the past. I purchase commercial belting (White #120) to cut and place in bottom and use hole cutter for eating hole. keeps mustang from getting fat and founder. I use small zip ties on tops of Velcro fasteners to keep horse from tearing loose. Trick: when new dunk in their outside water trough a few times and when dry put a horse treat in mask and let them smell it before putting on horse.

These muzzles are great quality and much less priced than other companies offer the cribbing muzzle.

Moved from NM to KY, horse is not used to lush green grass, using this to help out with the transition

My horses need a little help with weight management in the spring/summer months and this muzzle works great. It holds up to a lot of abuse from rowdy horses and the rubber piece is removable. For the price, you cant beat it! I have owned several in the past that last a full year or longer (and with my horses, that in itself is a miracle!) and I find that it is the best muzzle for my purposes. It also helps with cribbing and keeps the herd from taking chunks out of one another!

Have used before, easy to take off and on a halter. Can take it with you, has versatility with removable rubber piece, allows you the control of intake.

what size is this muzzle?

BEST ANSWER: I actually thought this one would work, But It made It thru the first night but barely, After I repaired It and put It on him for the second night his buddy was dragging him thru the field by It. Needless to say It was a total loss and no amount of repair would have fixed It.
If you have an older, calmer horse It may work well for them. I wish I could give It a better review.
I did take the rubber gasket out and left just the mesh bars so he could eat a little something. For the price It's not a ton of money down the drain If It fails In the pasture. Best of luck
can we order just the insert?
MARCELLA W on Nov 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I had several of them but I think I have thrown them away. I don't use them. I only put the muzzle on my stallion when he is stalled to protect his teeth from wind sucking. He can still eat his hay and drink water with the muzzle. I am not sure if you can order just the insert. This muzzle is excellent quality though.
