Lots of padding where it's needed
Pad is exactly as described. Cinch straps on both sides of pad so you can adjust the girth to be even. Don't have to cinch tightly because the neoprene on bottom of pad and girth cover prevents the usual slippage. Seems to be well made. The free water bottle is nice because the part that you drink out of is covered, so flies and dirt don't contaminate the surface that you are drinking out of.I have a hard time getting the tongue of the girth buckle to go thru the cinch strap hole. Maybe will loosen after use.

Great addition
This pad is such a great addition to the tack room! Love the place for a water bottle and on the other side you can pack a small lunch. Pad is so "padded" and very comfortable.

Love this pad!
I love this pad! I prefer to ride either bareback or with a bareback pad. This pad is really cushy, in most of the right places - could use a little more padding where my seat bones connect with my horse :) Love the fabric - it actually provides me with a little more "grip" as I'm trotting or cantering / loping and dirt brushes off from it easily. The slip-resistant backing is great as well, doesn't slide around nearly as much as fleece will. One review I read mentioned that the girth falls right where their leg hits on the horse. I noticed that as well but is not a problem really when just walking; at a trot or higher gait it is easy enough to slide my leg slightly forward and "tuck my feet behind my horses elbow" as though I were riding bareback. That problem would also depend on where you position your pad on your horse, forward or rear, which varies greatly on personal preference. Will most likely buy another one so my daughter will stop borrowing mine.....

Love It!
A friend of mine had an older version of the best friend's english bareback pad that I loved a lot and wanted to get one of my own. My anglo arab gelding is very thoroughbred in build and so his spine and withers protrude a bit making riding bareback a little uncomfortable. I got mine off the best friend site a few years ago and I got the this one (the western pad version) and it's so nice to ride with! Makes my ride more comfortable; even on the horses with the "bony" backs. It also helps in giving me an extra grip when I ride too.

Needs more padding where I sit
This is a great bareback pad if your horse doesn't have any protruding spine. I am confused why all the padding is at the withers and the very back of the pad...wish it was under my rump!!

Nice product!!!
Ok I put this pad to the test. I bought two Best Friend Deluxe Trail Bareback Pad for trail riding & going swimming at the beach. With this said, we started in a arena to test them out before the big adventure. So, we decided that they would be great for trail riding at the beach. We went out for a 5 Hr ride with the Bareback Pad & they stayed in place. We rode our horses with a thin pad under the Bareback Pad due the horse get really sweaty under the pads. The water bottle holder and pocket are a great add on to the pad. If you plain on just trail riding for a few hours & not in the water the pad is great! If you go out for longer you will need to put a air ride pad under it or you butt will hurt. If you go swimming the pad holds all of the water & takes forever to dry out . We had to ride home for 1-1/2 in a wet saddle pad that rubbed our legs raw. I would recommend this pad for arena or light trail riding. I would not recommend this pad for long trail rides or swimming in water.

Comfort level with this pad is great!
Both my horse and I love this pad! My old bareback pad would slide back and get really sweaty. This pad stays in place really well and doesn't become saturated with sweat. It also looks great and the pocket is handy.

Absolutely wonderful!!
When i decided to buy a bareback pad, i did a lot of searching for a reasonably priced high quality pad. I was not disappointed. I have several friends who own the "comfort plus best friend pad" and have been using it for MANY years with little wear. So i knew that this company would be on my list of choices. When i looked around at their different pads this one caught my eye. It looked comfy and held a water bottle and has a pocket for accessories. It fits nicely on my horse and i love the padding on the withers (he had an injury there) so it doesn't hurt him. Did i mention how COMFY it was??? its like mattress. It has padding in front and behind you so it keeps you in the saddle.

dURABLE, COMFORTABLE AND SAFE
Purchased this product at least 4 years ago. I was a scared rider with knee and hip issues from a fall (hence the scared rider bit). I was no longer comfortable in a saddle. The texture grips you so you stay in place - up hill, any gait. Even withstood some bucking going down a hill! Never came off. The texture at the bottom grips the horse. My horse loves it. I can walk out to the pasture and throw it on him without even haltering him first. So if you like to ride totally bareback, this is the better thing as you stick better and stay clean. The pseudo-suede top has not worn at all! I can clean with a garden hose. Even a little pocket to keep light articles in! Love it!

most excellent
I love this pad. very comfortable for long rides, my daughters love riding in them as they are light weight and easy to put on. well made. even rode them swimming with the horses n just air dried. pockets to store stuff. pad and girth made from same material and have had zero slip and have walked, trotted and gallopped. have rarely used the western saddles since buying these a year ago. extra padding in butt and wither area for my horse with boney withers n still fits my fat quarter horse gelding. dad and daughters are happy with this product.

Would this work on a horse that has flat withers?
karen d on Dec 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would imagine that this pad would work on a horse that has flat withers as the pad molds to the shape of the horse The pad is designed to cover the withers normally (goes up) but because it will mold to the shape of the horse I think it would work well for you I enjoy the comfort that it gives me when riding my horse
can stirrups be added to this pad?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No but there is a really nice pad that has stirrups already, does not have the girth with it but adding your own is very easy. This is a nice pad only if you do not want or need stirrups.
Can I get this pad with stirrups? I like the trail pad with the pocket, but would like to have stirrups.
A shopper on May 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The pad does not come with stirrups. There is no place to attach stirrups too. The pad is so grippy you wont even need stirrups. I own two of these pads and they are awesome.
Is there only one pocket or are there two? Also, how big are the pockets?
Katelyn on Feb 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Two pockets, one on each side, one is roomy could hold 2 phones, wallet and keys and has a Velcro closure, the other small with just an elastic at top,? Could put a hoof pick in and secure with band. I love the pad,is secure hardly any slippage, and comfortable.i only use to practice my balance at walk slow trot,so haven't gone any faster.
Are you getting more colors in ?
Maryann F on Aug 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, this is only available in hunter green.
what type of girth?
A shopper on Dec 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It comes with a neoprene girth, but you can change it to whatever you like. I really like this bareback pad. Its very comfortable and well balanced. It stays in place too. I have gone out on long trail rides and I've had no problems. I highly recommend this to anyone you likes to ride this way or just wants to better your balance on your horse.
