Product Summary:

Betadine® Solution Veterinary 5% Antiseptic Microbicide

Betadine® Solution Veterinary 5% povidone-iodine solution is a topical antiseptic microbicide. It helps reduce bacteria in a nonstaining and virtually nonirritating solution. It can be used to prepare skin prior to surgery to help prevent bacterial infections or after surgery as an application to surgical incisions. For external use only.

  • Use full strength for pre-operative prepping of skin and mucous membranes, preventing bacterial infection, emergency antisepsis of minor lacerations, abrasions, and burns, post-operative application to surgical incisions
  • Use on companion animals, including dogs, cats, and horses
Apply full strength to skin or surgical preparation site. Wet area thoroughly to ensure complete coverage and penetration, but avoid “pooling”. Allow to dry. May be covered with bandage.

For external use only. Do not use this product in the eyes or on food-producing animals.
Do not heat prior to application. Prolonged exposure to wet solution may cause irritation or, rarely, severe skin reactions. In pre-operative prepping, avoid “pooling” beneath the animal. Stop use and ask a veterinarian in rare instances of local irritation or sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Great product and affordable
We ordered this from and it came in very quickly and was very economical rather than buying small bottles at a drugstore or Walmart.

What's best for treating..and healing abcess I'm horse hoof?
mary kay M on Mar 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The abscess has be lanced to allow it to drain. Its best to have a veterinarian or farrier do this. If you do not open it, it will travel through the hoof to the top of the coronet band, where it will blow. The horse will be fine, its just a longer and much more painful recorvery. If you lance it from the bottom of the hoof, it should be wrapped in a poultice; change the poultice very 1-2 days for maybe 5 days or until its adequatly drained. I prefer the poultice pads to the clay, but either will do the job.
