Product Summary:

Cashel® Crusader™ Fly Mask

Offer your horse the ultimate in fly protection and a safe alternative to toxic and ineffective fly sprays. Rated #1 for comfort, design, and fit by equine clinicians and publications, the Cashel® Crusader™ Fly Mask employs a patented three-hole cap design that ensures comfort, eliminates forelock damage and remains stationary whether your horse is in the stall or the pasture. The panels are constructed of soft-coated nylon micromesh that hovers above the skin’s surface, protecting the soft tissues of the eyes and forehead from flying insects and blocking 70% of the sun’s damaging UV rays. Edges and seams are bound with low-nap plush fabric that won’t attach to irritating burrs or bristles.

The Crusader™ with ear protection allows your horse’s ears to slip lightly and comfortably into fitted sheaths made of Wickaway. This soft, moisture-wicking material is light and silent, allowing unobstructed hearing and full range of movement while completely protecting your horse’s ears from biting flies and gnats.

  • Rated #1 by equine experts for design, comfort and fit

Great mask. I wish I would have bought this one for my horse.
It is really nice. Very well made. It just doesn't fit good enough because my quarter horse pulls it off the pony. It washes up well.

Only Donkey Mask I Can Find
I have a standard donkey jennet whose ears are very sensitive to gnat bites. This is the only mask I have been able to find that has donkey-sized ears. She is a smaller standard, and it fits her very well. There is enough room for it to fit a larger donkey easily. The face part holds up VERY well, but she does manage to destroy the ear parts fairly quickly by rubbing her ears on rough surfaces. She has gotten the ear covers caught on limbs and barbed wire, but she was able to get out of the mask without complication, so I definitely feel it is safe to leave on while unsupervised in the pasture.

Excellent quality masks that keeps the flies off and holds up to rubbing and rolling. This year we had to replace the previous ones that we bought 4 years ago for our quarter horse (bought Horse) and Arab/QH cross (bought Arab). Fits well - not tight but not too loose. It's important to keep the Velcro clean and free of grass, dirt and other material or they will come off. Horses like the masks and even put their heads down for them.

works fine
My horse likes the ears, at least for him. When he sees me coming with the mask he stretches out his neck to help me put it on his head. I'd say he appreciates it.

Great service and reliable product
I continue to get quick delivery and kind service from I have used the Cashel fly masks for a few years and have been pleased. They are soft and seemingly comfortable for the horse, attach well under the chin, and last about as long as others I've seen or tried. My horse is out in a large pasture with a small herd for a good part of the time, so the mask does eventually show wear from rubbing, rolling, etc. My horse is a small quarter horse, and the Arabian/cob/small quarter horse size fits him well. This will continue to be my mask of choice.

Well Made Fly Mask
I got this fly mask with ears for my Percheron draft who has an allergy to Florida's biting gnats and flies, as recommended by my veterinarian. It fits well, and my horse doesn't mind wearing it, even though he has sensitive ears. I would definitely buy it again.

product works well, stays on better than most
my arab destroys 2-3 masks every summer so finding one that fits well is important. He will keep these on pretty well and they help with the mosquitos too.My thoroughbred loves his and as soon as bug season starts he will come and stand when he sees me bring them out!

Cashel Crusader is THE mask to buy
One new fly mask per pony per year. They go through the wash when they get icky. I throw them out when they are too worn. At this rate of purchase, there are enough to go around and use a clean one while the dirty ones are getting washed. These last and stay comfy on my Gotland ponies that have wide foreheads. One of my mares has amber eyes and she wears hers on sunny days year round as sunglasses. If I leave it draped on the fence, she sill go to it and try to get it on herself. She drives without blinkers, so she wears this while driving too.

Excellent fly mask, durable and useful on horses that are hard at play with their buddies.

I needed a fly mask with ears for my foal and this was the only brand that had that size. It fits her well and seems to be sturdier than the Professional's Choice brand. It has an opening for a forelock which doesn't matter so much with the baby but I would definitely like for older horses. This will be the next brand I buy for the adults too.

tried different fly mask with ears, they tore up in a days time. Got this mask as a gift and was impressed with the material used for the ears. Looks to be more durable. thought it would be worth a try.
Eileen M on May 28, 2014
I like how the mask goes below the cheekbones making it less likely to rub and is made of very soft material around their ears. Our Percheron/Friesan also has a very full forelock so the extra cut out is very nice for him.
BRYNN B on May 18, 2014
The flies are horrible this year due to large amounts of rain we have received.
EVIE U on May 14, 2014
Good name brand and it holds its own in a pasture full of playful horses. I bought one for my mare and loved it so much im purchasing another one for my gelding.
SIERRA W on May 5, 2014
Cashel is the best by far. The ear mesh is very soft so it doesnt rub their ears.

Is there an opening for the fore lock like on the quite ride?
A shopper on Aug 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there is an opening for the forelock. They are the best fitting masks ever. The spots for the eyes fit much better than any other fly mask I have tried. I swear by this brand. I don't want a fly mask bothering my horses eyes or eye lashes.
are you out of "horse" sizes?
Carolyn H on May 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We are currently sold out of the Horse size. We're trying to get more in, but unfortunately no date is available yet. Inventory is "live" on the site, so if we get stock, that size will show available again to order.
Does this mask stay on well? A friend of mine is having trouble keeping it on her horse, but it might just be that this particular horse is able to get it off.
A shopper on May 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They stayed on my horses until they figured how to get them off once. Now its a game of hide and seek to find them in the pasture. I purchased the Horse size, however they are huge on my average horses. There is also an elastic piece before the velcro strip and it prohibits you from being able to get it tighter on their nose because you loose room to attach the velcro to. if you have the time, you can remove the elastic and sew the velcro back on (although I feel like you should half do that since you pay quite a bit for it).
I have a 1/2 Andalusion, 1/2 Percheron mare. Would the warmblood size fit her better?
Connie L on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It depends on her measurments. Here is a direct link to the size chart to help you decide:
