Helps
Helps a little but there are still flies on the horses. Could be that the barn is too open.

We have cows across the street and could not sit on our front porch due to the flies. We installed 2 and we could not be happier with the results! We enjoy our time together having coffee in the mornings or drinks in the evenings. Thank you horse.com.

Great against mosquitos
I put these in our run-in shelters and they are working great to keep the mosquito and gnat population down. It gives the horses a place to rest bug free.
Good Product
I have had 4 of these hanging in my barn & garage. Garage is 30 x 56, and horse area is 20 x 56.It seems to really be helping to control the flies. there are still flies, but is an open space area, but they have definitely became manageable.Plus it smells good too.
Country Vet Equine Mosquito and Fly Control Kit , love it i have 2 in the barn.
I have 2 I have in my barn keeps the flies & mosquito out, works great.
The fly control misters really make a difference in my barn.
The Country Supply price can't be beat! I have used these before and they really keep the flys out of my barn!
Not spraying
Have 2 units and neither one sprays after the first initial blast. Not sure if the problem was with the cans or the unit. Appears to be with both. Removed cans and manually sprayed both. They intermittently sprayed. Put back in unit and the trigger compressed but never would go back to the original setting to allow the nozzle on the can to come up fully. It was constantly being held down. Contacting horse.com about this.
Useless
I bought this seeing that it had 5 stars and hoping it would truly help reduce the flies and mosquitoes in my barn but it barely sprays. I put in new batteries, tested the spray can, waited and watched for the trigger to spray and when it finally did it just went "pst". There were flies sitting on it (probably laughing). I bought a second spray can being hopeful that this would be a true lifesaver - so when I hold the can and spray the flies get disturbed but not flee like I was hoping.I wonder if the product is defective? I am going to call Horse.com and ask for a replacement or a refund.
WE have had very good luck with this product.
We have used these for several years, above our doors outside & in the garage for mosquitos and they have worked very well.
Very Good Results!
I was skeptical about this product working for me since my barns are not totally enclosed. I bought 3 units and placed them where they would be most protected from the wind. My fly and gnat problem was probably reduced by 95%! My horses and donkeys began to gather in the protected areas - which drew the flies and gnats to those areas - and further reduced the fly and gnat population.
Nice spray outfit for the stall/barn
It took Cheyenne a bit to get used to the pssst of this but sure does not bother him anymore :)
BEST FLY CONTROL FOR FARM WE HAVE FOUND
We started using the Country Vet Equine Fly Control Kit years ago. We have them in all our barns, lean-to's and even our shop. WE use them for our horses, cows and even ourselves. We think they are the best fly control on market for the price. They do work! We bought the Mosquito and Fly Control to try it and, like the Fly Control, it does everything it says.
Fly Control
Using this in an open front barn seems to work fine :)

Is this product okay if you store hay in the barn and animals eat in the barn?

BEST ANSWER: This seems to be a very effective system for control of flies and mosquitoes. I have placed dispensers in my carport very near the entrance to the house, and in the open, but covered area of our shed row barn. I would personally be cautious about using Country Vet Equine Mosquito and Fly Control in hay storage areas, or positioning dispensers in such a way that the spray is directed at feeding areas. Country Vet Equine Mosquito and Fly Spray contains pyrethrins, which do have some toxicity, primarily as skin and eye irritants. Systemic toxicity is seen with ingestion of high doses. My concern would be that a can of the spray is triggered every 15 minutes, 24/7 for a month, and toxins could accumulate in a hay storage area. The product label contains use instructions, including the warning, "Caution: Do not use in nurseries or rooms where infants, ill or aged persons are confined. Use 12 feet or more from exposed food or food handling or dispensing surfaces."

Yes I have several in my barn alleyway and stalls and one in the feed and hay room. Never had a problem. My new boarders say they have never been anywhere were the flies and mosquitos are as controlled as our barn.
My two horses eat in the barn and I also store hay. The hay is stored behind a solid door however. The instructions state to not put it right over food or water. That's what I have done and have had zero problems.
It says not to place around food products so I say no. Maybe place it outside the door to the barn.
Product contains pyrethrin as in some fly sprays, safe to use in a barn where hay is stored.

Where is the best place to mount this in a tall barn?
BEST ANSWER: I place the dispenser in my horse barn about 6 foot high, in a stall and close to a corner. Check the air draft and place is lowest area. My barn is 36 x 48. I have 3 dispensers, and no mosquitoes and very few flies. I also have a small 12 x 24 goat shed, with 1 dispenser in the corner about 5 foot high for mosquitoe relief. I love the product.

Hi Diane, I use one unit in each stall. I mount them between the window and the outside stall door so the spray goes into the stall. Mounting placement above head level so the spray does not go directly onto my horses. Hope this helps, I have used this product for years both in NH and now in SC. Judi
I have some mounted on the outside of my stalls about 41/2 feet up and others are placed on containers in the barn hallway seems to work pretty good for my barn. I have a 14 stall barn master barn with 25 foot peak ceiling
I have a sheet metal barn with a steel frame. I mounted it at the back of the barn in the middle steel support about 7 feet up off the ground
I put mine above the barn entry doors, and I have high ceilings and it works well

I only want to purchase the canisters I already have the unit. Can I just buy the canisters?
BEST ANSWER: Refill canisters are available separately from a number of vendors, including this site. The 6.4 oz. single cans are Item # SLT101582 on this site. A 12-pack of the cans is sold as Item # E000082. You can access the respective product pages by entering the item number in the search box.

Yes, you can buy the cans of the insecticide separately. I usually buy a case to last the units I bought through the summer. The barn has 2 units and one each over the front and back doors of the house.
Yes you can just purchase the canisters separately. Fly Predators are better and do a better job. You won't be putting out a spray that could be bad for the horses to be breathing in.
Yes.Keep poking around, if horse.com doesn't have them, you will find them other places.
Yes. I've had two units in my barn and it has worked great to replace the canisters only.
Yes! I buy a case of twelve at s time because my barn has three spray units. Love it!
Thank you, found what I needed,

Would this product be good for a mare and foal in a open ventilated barn?
BEST ANSWER: I've used it for my horses - ages 9 and 30. It does help deter the flies from wanting to hang out in the barn as I can tell when a canister has emptied and their numbers suddenly increase. I've never had a mare/foal so I'd check with your vet about what fly control is safe for them.

Yes. This product is citronella based, so is not a chemical. It seems to work well. We use ours on our front porch, over the front door.
Don't know, you should contact the manufacturer of the spray that is being used.

can I use this product in my home?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, just sparingly. If you have a flying insect that needs to "go" and will not follow the old school rules associated with a fly swatter (three swings and a kill) then a sprig from the can will work. I would not let the automatic sprayer operate inside unattended.

Will have to read the label and msds if label doesn't say. It will tell u if okay for Indoors. Yet ther is so much other stuff to use for Indoors that is friendlier.
While I don't use this product inside. I do position one over every door. It helps cut down the flying critters coming into the house.

The Country Vet Equine Flying Insect Control Kit states that it generally covers an area of 6000 cubic feet (30' x 20' x 10' room). Is it the same for this product?
BEST ANSWER: Recommended use is for 24 hours: but if less than 24 hour use is required, the Dispenser should be set to start one hour before control is desired and run one hour after control is no longer needed. Factors such as airflow rate, size of space treated, humidity and room temperature affect insect activity and control. Therefore, one unit per 6,000 cubic feet of unobstructed space should be considered as an average with adjustments made depending on specific conditions at usage site. As with any method of insect control, best res

The kit has been successful in our small space barn. I'm pleased with the product my only issue was placement so that mist did not spray in faces of the horses. Works to keep flies to a minimum.
No. It will not effectively cover that much area. Maybe if it was an enclosed room but not in an open area like a stall
I would say 'generally ' it does. I live in an area with a lot of mosquitos. Two would work better.
I suppose it is about the same.
