bought this pad - where is the pommel of the saddle suppose to be placed ? Having hard time allowing for the 'wither relief' which is main reason for purchase along with slight swayback issues.
A shopper on Aug 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: 1 inch back from the front edge. For wither relief try a wedge in the front. With swayback place middle ones. Leave the back ones out. If this doesn"t give desired relief try another blanket or pad underneath
My 4 1/2 year old was used for some roping, although I don't think a lot before I bought him. He appears to be a bit more muscled on one side of his withers than the other, above the shoulder. So his barrel saddle fits tighter on that side than on the other and I wondered if this pad would help. I could shim the one side and not the other until they were more even from the different work he will now be doing. Not barrel racing btw, western dressage but I like a barrel saddle? Thanks

BEST ANSWER: I am by far not an expert, but i bought this pad a few months ago for my heavy shouldered QH gelding. He should be a heading horse the way he is built, but I do more ranch work with him and trail rides. I love this pad! I thought about buying those that had pads just in the shoulder area (for high withered horses) before I bought this....and so glad I didn't. For him, I take OUT the front shims and leave the middle and back ones in. This gives him more room to move in the shoulder and he has started acting way better about moving off his front end, and the white marks my saddle was giving him have almost disappeared in the last 8 months or so. So, I think this pad would work great for your horse! Just shim the side that is smaller and take out the one on the bigger shoulder. I think you will be super happy. And the quality of the pad is amazing! Very heavy and fashionable. I get lots of comments on it when I travel. And, I have a up and coming 2 yr old, so I just take all the shims out for him, or shim the wither area for my wide saddle....and it works great for him too! Very versatile! Best wishes!
Is this pad good for a high withered horse? He doesn't have muscle lose behind withers, but it is very high.
Emily M on Nov 15, 2014
BEST ANSWER: My gelding has high withers and it works well for him. What I really like about this pad is that you are able to take the insert pads out to adjust to the fit of your horse. When I first bought this pad, the last inserts were causing some white hairs, but as I changed his workout with different exercises, he muscled out and I needed to put them back in. It's much easier and cheaper to have a pad like this that you can adjust rather than trade out and buy more saddle pads. I really like it!
Favorite way to use.. Do you use this pad by itself or with a blanket on top?
Richelle S on Oct 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi! I use the pad alone when working and practicing. Throw a thin blanket on top when showing. Either way it works the way I expect it to!
How thick are the shims in this pad?
Melissa S on Mar 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I believe they are about 1/4 or more. I ended up selling this a friend. My horse is younger and didn't really need it. I like all Diamond Wool pads. They don't smash in like others and they are reasonably priced.
How do I clean this pad?
A shopper on Sep 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Diamond Wool saddle pads are made from wool felt that has a high Wool content. To avoid shrinking, avoid hot water or heat during drying. Occasionally brush your pad with a stiff bristled brush. This will help dislodge hair, dirt and sweat, which will extend your pads useful life span. After use, your wool pad should be placed where it can air out and dry more efficiently.

To Clean Diamond Wool Pads
Use a soft cloth or sponge, a mild shampoo or detergent free soap (such as Ivory), and tepid water.
Slightly dampen the cloth or sponge and add a small amount of soap.
Work up a small lather on soiled areas.
Rinse with clean water.
Allow to air dry.
