Good title name
I used this on my horse that started having allergies because of so much pollen in the air and pastures. I used full amount the first 5 days and the next 5 days, half that amount. At the end of 10 days, I quit giving it to him and he has stopped coughing. Also had another horse doing the same thing and it worked on him too.

Miracle Product
I use the for my mini who has developed Heaves. Since her first dose, she has NOT coughed ONCE! I was in complete shock! I was ready to put her on steroids if this didn't work. I am so grateful that it did! Highly recommend. I just add a little water to her feed with it to make it stick to the pellets.

Not for picky eaters
My mare developed a cough after getting into some dusty/moldy hay. I gave her the supplement according to the instructions, but she wasn't a fan of it. I had to mix molasses and ground up treats to hide the taste. It seemed to help resolve her cough just fine though.

good product
since my horse has recently been diagnosed with heaves and is on steroids for it, i continued the 2 scoop dosage for the entire container, rather than decreasing to 1 scoop after 5 days. the container is close to gone now, and just yesterday i noticed dried mucus that had come out of his nose earlier that day and also noticed that his breathing is getting better.i will order again and may continue the 2 scoops for a little longer, then decrease to 1 scoop.

I does really work. Just like it says!
I had used this for my horse who had developed a cough during extended stall rest. The vet said he was all for continuing to use it. I can really tell If someone forgets to put it in his feed! Plus my horse likes it mixed in his grain. Mmmm gourmet!

Not enough words to describe how happy I am with this product
One winter my horse got a bad case of the heaves. I went the vet route and got the prescribed meds to help him. That helped somewhat. I tried the cough free (with much skepticism) and now I swear by it. I give him 1 scoop a night for preventive care and have never had a problem since. I can't tell which of the ingredients is the miracle worker, all I know is that it works. His nostrils stay clear and there's no coughing or heaving. Well worth the money. I can't say enough about this product.

Takes time to work as expected.
I have used Cough Free for the same horse before. It does work quite well over time, but does not "shut-off" the cough quickly. Last time it took about 3 weeks to get him back to normal, and he seems to be on the same pace this time so I'll need to reorder. He is an eating machine, but does not like the initial taste - I add it to his pellets and mix it all up with a little bit of corn oil. He will clean-up every bite this way.

It really does WORK!
I have a 3 year old that I was about to put on dexamethasone powder I bought from my vet. She had a horrible cough due to the dry dusty summer/fall we've had. I wasn't able to ride her or get her worked up because of her bad cough over and over again. I bought this Cough Free and in 3 days her cough was completely gone. I couldn't believe it worked that good. She had no issues eating it but if your horse is picky then they probably won't eat it.

My horse wouldn't eat it
I prepared the formula as directed in my horse's food, and he wouldn't touch it. I offered it to the other horses, just to see how they would react, and none of them would so much as put their nose near the bucket. I then thought I would put it in a syringe as directed, but smell was so foul I couldn't finish even preparing the solution. I ended up just throwing the product away. I was very disappointed, as my horse has really bad allergies and thought this would help him.
June 11, 2016
pleasantly surprised that it works
My mustang, who has always been allergic to gnats in the summer, had a bad episode this past winter when we got a bad load of hay. He could barely breathe. The vet stabilized him as best he could but told me he would probably need to be on steroids each time this happened. Odin recovered better than I expected but I could see he was occasionally having trouble breathing. I happened to see an add for the Cough Free and figured that even if it helped a little it would be worth it. Well, it exceeded my expectations and Odin hasn't had a bad episode again. He loves the mash I make with it. It's all natural so I feel confidant I can continue using it regularly. I ordered it online with automatic shipping which is a pleasure, I never run out and I can change the order online if I need more. I really like all the Farnum products

I have a horse with a persistent allergy type cough. Cough Free has helped -- it hasn't totally eliminated the cough, but it has reduced it somewhat. I'll stick with a product that works, and this one does.

I have been using Cough Free for quite a few years for horses that are coughing but have no associated illness. It helps to relieve coughs due to environmental molds in the winter and dust/pollen in the spring and summer. I recommend it to other horse owners and to my vet.

CATHY D on May 10, 2014
We have found it to work very well for my husband's mare. She has allergies throughout the year and feeding her a small amount consistently has stopped her coughing. Others we tried did not. Good product.
When feeding her small amount instead of the amount on the jar, she eats it with her grain instead of dumping whole bucket and wasting much of it.

any side effects of cough free?
A shopper on Aug 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: As far as I can tell, there are no side effects. My horse is an x-racer and I have been told several reason he has such a deep flem causing cough. I had him on Trihist from my vet and I couldn't get him to eat his grain or anything it was in. So I tried Cough Free. I have had him on it for almost 2 years. He still has an occasional cough but nothing like he had. I'm sticking with it and horse.com seems to have the best price.
I have a goat that has breathing issues (noisey) use vetrimycin and also Nuflor she does good til the medicine wears off and I have to give her annother dose. Will this product work for her?
Merrillyn H on Jul 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I love this for horses. If you can adjust for his size. I mix it with warm water into a smooth paste. I think it is worth a try.
But Ventepulmin might be better. I think it's a RX but it opens airways- if I remember correctly. I used it on a lot of foals last year.
Nuflor is an antibiotic, right, but the Vetrimycin I would question its value
Good luck
I have a mare miniature horses with really bad heaves, all year around. she is 23 years old. and I would like to know if it will make it easier for her to breath too?
EmmaParent on Feb 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello, please see below for the feeding directions. This item also lists that it will help with heaves.

Directions for Use:
• Give two scoops per day for the first five days. If coughing persists,
give one scoop per day until coughing ceases.
• For a horse who is not consuming well, mix 2 scoops in a little warm
water and dose syringe into horse’s throat.
• Enclosed scoop holds 1/2 oz.
Can this product be used on a long-term basis? My gelding has COPD and I'm trying to get his cough/nasal discharge under control. Thanks!
Lois P on Aug 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I also have a mare with COPD and she started coughing In Febuary much earlier than she had in past years. My vet suggested that i try the CoughFree and i did.. I fed as perscribed and in about a week maybe a week and a half she did stop coughing. i kept her on it for a month then took her off. She did not like the taste so, I mixed it with water and then mixed it in her feed and she liked it much better that way. Around the end of May she started coughing again so, i started feeding asprescribed again (2oz once a day) but, this time she did not stop as quickly as before.. i had to feed it (1 oz )morning and (1oz) night for about 2 more weeks before she stopped coughing. Since then i am feeding the (1oz) once a day and it is working great for her. She is still out on the pasture and I'm not going to say she doesn't cough at all but, i would say about 98% cough free. Before if I had turned her out at all she would cough constantly so, for the most part I had to keep her stalled during the summer months. I have been feeding it for the several months and have not had any issues with it.. i really do like this product and will continue to use it.
I also have a picky horse who will walk away from sweet feed containing Cough Free. I've tried mixing with water in a syringe but it didn't dissolve well and wouldn't squirt out . Can I addcanything to it to kill the smell ? Even tried adding it to apple sauce, which he loves - no go. Was thinking about adding vanilla extract or some other strong smelling substance lol.
Joy K on Dec 22, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use liquid molasses. It is a familiar smell and will cover the smell of supplements. It is not good to use if you have an older horse suffering from liver disease, though. And don't give him a full dose, just a fraction of a dose and then
increase it a little with each dose until you reach the full dose.
Can you give same day as a wormer?
Dena R on Sep 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I use daily feed through wormer and ivermectin twice a year. I give cough free once daily to my thoroughbred and have never had a problem or had my vet tell me not to :)
what is the shelf life of this product? No symptoms right now, but want to have on hand if needed.
A shopper on Jan 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I've carried it over from season to season . . . no problems, but to be sure email the makers of this product and ask them. I have asked them questions and get very thorough answers in a very timely manner! I highly recommend Cough Free and usually only use it a few days before his cough (from allergies) clears up.
What are the ingredients of Cough Free? I'm not looking for hear-say. I'm looking for the ingredient list.
Becky A on Jun 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: from the label-"ginger root, elecampane root, kelp powder, fenugreek seed, iron, sulphur, genetian root, calcium carbonate, charcoal, dicalcium phosphate." I also give granulated garlic with it, and dried nettle leaves.
I have an 80 lb miniature horse. What dosage of cough free power would be okay/safe for her?
