any side effects of cough free?
A shopper on Aug 4, 2014
Best Answer: As far as I can tell, there are no side effects. My horse is an x-racer and I have been told several reason he has such a deep flem causing cough. I had him on Trihist from my vet and I couldn't get him to eat his grain or anything it was in. So I tried Cough Free. I have had him on it for almost 2 years. He still has an occasional cough but nothing like he had. I'm sticking with it and horse.com seems to have the best price.

Can this product be used on a long-term basis? My gelding has COPD and I'm trying to get his cough/nasal discharge under control. Thanks!
Lois P on Aug 3, 2014
Best Answer: I also have a mare with COPD and she started coughing In Febuary much earlier than she had in past years. My vet suggested that i try the CoughFree and i did.. I fed as perscribed and in about a week maybe a week and a half she did stop coughing. i kept her on it for a month then took her off. She did not like the taste so, I mixed it with water and then mixed it in her feed and she liked it much better that way. Around the end of May she started coughing again so, i started feeding asprescribed again (2oz once a day) but, this time she did not stop as quickly as before.. i had to feed it (1 oz )morning and (1oz) night for about 2 more weeks before she stopped coughing. Since then i am feeding the (1oz) once a day and it is working great for her. She is still out on the pasture and I'm not going to say she doesn't cough at all but, i would say about 98% cough free. Before if I had turned her out at all she would cough constantly so, for the most part I had to keep her stalled during the summer months. I have been feeding it for the several months and have not had any issues with it.. i really do like this product and will continue to use it.

I have a goat that has breathing issues (noisey) use vetrimycin and also Nuflor she does good til the medicine wears off and I have to give her annother dose. Will this product work for her?
Merrillyn H on Jul 22, 2016
Best Answer: I love this for horses. If you can adjust for his size. I mix it with warm water into a smooth paste. I think it is worth a try.
But Ventepulmin might be better. I think it's a RX but it opens airways- if I remember correctly. I used it on a lot of foals last year.
Nuflor is an antibiotic, right, but the Vetrimycin I would question its value
Good luck

I also have a picky horse who will walk away from sweet feed containing Cough Free. I've tried mixing with water in a syringe but it didn't dissolve well and wouldn't squirt out . Can I addcanything to it to kill the smell ? Even tried adding it to apple sauce, which he loves - no go. Was thinking about adding vanilla extract or some other strong smelling substance lol.
Joy K on Dec 22, 2016
Best Answer: I use liquid molasses. It is a familiar smell and will cover the smell of supplements. It is not good to use if you have an older horse suffering from liver disease, though. And don't give him a full dose, just a fraction of a dose and then
increase it a little with each dose until you reach the full dose.

Can you give same day as a wormer?
Dena R on Sep 17, 2016
Best Answer: I use daily feed through wormer and ivermectin twice a year. I give cough free once daily to my thoroughbred and have never had a problem or had my vet tell me not to :)

what is the shelf life of this product? No symptoms right now, but want to have on hand if needed.
A shopper on Jan 29, 2015
Best Answer: I've carried it over from season to season . . . no problems, but to be sure email the makers of this product and ask them. I have asked them questions and get very thorough answers in a very timely manner! I highly recommend Cough Free and usually only use it a few days before his cough (from allergies) clears up.
