I would not buy this again, it did not hold up, the horse stuck his foot thru the wholes and ripped all .

I have 2 of these great hay feeders that I've used for years and they are getting worn out. My llama, goats and sheep love them.

are they hard to load? When they swing around doesn't it make it hard for the horse to eat?
A shopper on Nov 19, 2015
Best Answer: It is a little work to load. It worked OK. My horse used to toss it around & pin it against the wall to be able to get to the hay faster. He also figured out how to get it open. I used a clip to close it & he worked it til he bent the clip to get it open. He pulled it down & his foot fit through the holes so I don't use t anymore. I went to hay nets with small holes which does work well.

Would this work with chopped hay?
Lynn S on Aug 9, 2016
Best Answer: If it were packed in tight, it might be OK. The openings are large so once they started eating, more would fall out than if it were not chopped. You would want to feed with a stock tank underneath to keep it off the ground.

do they come in
different sizes?
A shopper on Nov 7, 2016
Best Answer: I think it's all one size ... I've had mine for a year and a half now and love it.... I can squeeze 3 flakes into it.

Can a horse fit a hoof through the holes?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2016
Best Answer: In my experience a horse can and has done a lot of unusual things. I have had the blue hay feeders for at least 3 years and the green hay feeders just this last spring. I have a total of 5. I like the blue ones better, they are made of harder plastic than the green ones. One green one is in my yearling stall. So, her foot could definitely fit in one of the holes. It is placed an inch above the ground and against the wall. If she would get her hoof thru a hole she would destroy the feeder but she would be physically all right. I have had one in my stallions stall for 3 years and it hangs the same way, he has never put t hoof thru. I use 3 in the barn and I love them. 2 in my horse trailer. The horse seem to really like them as well.

what are they made of and would they scratch the horse trailer?
A shopper on Nov 19, 2015
Best Answer: It's a rigid plastic, no sharp edges but I can imagine it might produce some light superficial "scratches". Like you get from driving past small leafy bushes...
