Product Summary:

High Country Plastics Insulated Bucket

Heavy insulation in this bucket prevents water from freezing, allowing horses to drink regularly in an occupied stall. The unique drain design allows for watering with or without a bucket, and makes cleaning easy. The included float helps insulate the bucket from the top by floating at or just below water surface. You horse can easily access the water by nudging the float, which also helps keep the water circulating.

Must have!
Works perfect. Filled with warm water at 5pm, NO ICE at 730 AM the next morning @ 6 degrees. I only use warm water when temps drop below 15 degrees. My young horse that links to flip her buckets cannot break this one! Well worth the price.

Excellent results.
Would and have recommended to other boarders at the ranch. No more solid ice in the buckets. Extremely cold temps at below zero only create small bits.of ice. No ice at.all when temps are.at 15 plus. The stable hands love the buckets too: life is easier without frozen ice buckets.

I love it year round but especially in the winter it doesn't freeze, gets just a little icy when really cold out. Excellent alternative when you can't have heated water buckets in the barn

Mules love their insulated buckets!
I use the insulated buckets inside stalls so my mules don't have to venture out into inclement weather for a drink. I do not use the float as they drink more readily without it. Night temps have been in the 20's and no ice has formed on the water surface. I will be replacing the black bucket insert with a white one, as it is difficult to see the water level at a glance and any dirt or debris so I end up dumping remaining contents and refilling. Also use these in summer, as they keep water temp cooler than their outside tubs.

Sooooo glad I bought this!!
I gave it average durability rating because I've only had it for a short time. NW Ohio in the winter is BRUTAL. No electric in run-in for my horse and donkey so no heated water buckets. These are better anyway...no fire hazard or cords to worry about. This week has been in single-digit highs with wind chills about 20 below. Water is still liquid! Only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner!

Overall well made product
Seems very well made. Will give them a try this winter to see if they will work as stated in the add. Overall very satisfied with this product.

Finally, a water bucket that my horse cannot crush!
My horse crushed every water bucket we put in her stall within a week or two. We decided to try this insulated bucket primarily to prevent her crushing it, but hopefully to reduce the water freezing in the winter. We did have to attach the 5 gallon insert bucket to a ring bolted to the stall wall above the insulated holder because she figured out how to pull it right up and out. This has worked well and so far I think this was a great purchase.

Bought 3 and will be buying another
I live In indiana and these buckets are the envy of every horse person we know. I orignally got them when we had no electricity but I still use them because they work 95% of the winter. Even the electric heated buckets froze over during the artic weather we had this year. I also use these insulated buckets year round because the water seems to stay cooler and there is less spillage. I have had them for over 4.5 years and they don't have a scratch or dent on them. I long ago lost the floater things and they don't all have matching 5 gallon buckets because we switched out buckets to clean, bleach and leave out in the sun, evenually one disappeared. The only problem we have with them is they don't come in pink to please my granddaughters . I feel these buckets are a good value over cost.

So far so good
I was pretty skeptical of this bucket not freezing, but decided to give it a try for my mini donkeys. The new barn has no electric hooked up yet, so no way to plug in a heated bucket and I was already having to break ice in their stock tank. It arrived on our coldest week yet this year and even down to low 20's and teens at night the most I found were a few icy crystals floating inside. I keep it inside the stall against an indoor wall directly on the floor. It is sturdy and heavy enough they can not tip it. I was worried they would not use it with the float in place, but they went right up to it and drank from it as soon as I put it there. Definitely keeps water from freezing and water seems warmer then a regular bucket. I would definitely recommend trying it. It seems made well, but maybe a little pricey considering it is just a hunk of plastic with some insulating material and a 5 gallon pail. Otherwise I am pleased so far after using it for a few weeks.

Does this item have to be mounted or can it sit on the floor?
A shopper on Dec 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I have not actually starting using it yet although I may have to tonight with how cold it is. I did read before I bought that a couple people used it on the ground and it worked well for them. That is how I am going to use it too. I also have a slow hay feeder on the ground and may put the bucket between the wall and the feeder. I may just put cookies in the bucket the first night of use so she will want to go to it. It should work on the ground if your horse does not purposely kick things around or play with things. My horse is around 27 so she is over that playfulness!!
What hardware or size hardware do I need to attach it to the wall?
A shopper on Nov 14, 2014

Unfortunately the type of hardware needed would be at your discretion depending upon where you intend to mount the item. Each type of surface will require a different type of hardware to ensure that the item stays in place.
what does the float look like?
Gary A on Dec 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: What Float?? WE got the one from TSC......Make sure you hook your hose up with a 90 degree fitting, or if the hose goes strait up the horse will play with it and pull the float out. also after we installed our high country bucket we found a insulated bucket with the float in the wall hanger. we are in Florida. we hooked our buckets in the stalls to give the horses cool water, out side in the heat it could go up to 100 plus.i think we are going into our 4 th year and they are great. down side is the wife has to unhook the float. and dump the water so she can clean the bucket., so make sure you have a easy hose hook ups.
Is it only good first 5 gallons then you have to manually refill it or is it hooked to a hose to refill? Is 1 bucket enough for 2 horses? What about the hose freezing in the winter if hooked to a hose? We are 100' downhill from the outside faucet.
Janet O on Sep 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You do have to manually refill it....we are using two outside during the day and fill them in the morning....we fill jugs of warm water from the house to refill as needed. The water does not freeze in the day and we dump it out when the horses go in at night. They have ones in their stalls also. We fill them before they go in the barn for the night and they are good all night. Read the directions they give so you understand how the buckets work. We have been very happy with them.
can i buy replacement floater?
gina l on Oct 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You would need to contact the Manufacturer, (208) 455-8611 or http://www.highcountryplastics.com/
Hi...is there ANYTHING that I can use as a water bucket (or extra large dish) in the summer that will keep water cool for pets? I have electricity to the yard and would like something that is electric. Doesn't have to freeze the water, just keep it cool. Fountain will not work because I don't have a hose connection to that part of the yard. Thanks so much!
NashvilleCat76 on Jun 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We put our H C I Buckets in the stall's and ran a Farm grade hose to the buckets, With a float to shut the water off & On , Here in Florida i checked the water out side and it was at mid day 90 degrees. By putting them in the stall water temp is in the 70's going in and stay cool in the HCI buckets. WE have horse, you said "PETS" so if they are large enough to drink from the buckets this will work, if not then fill water dishes with water and keep in the shade.
Does this come with the black float?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the High Country Insulated Bucket Tan does come with a black float and black bucket.
What keeps water warm ?
A shopper on Sep 19, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It's not that the water stays warm, but that the thermal holder helps keep the water at more of a constant temperature. It helps to keep the water warmer when the air temperatures get cold and in reverse, when the air temperatures rise in the summer, it helps keep the water cooler. I have had very good luck with this product and have found that even when temps drop down in the lower 20's, they don't ice up. You do need to make sure the water level in the bucket is lower than the top of the insulated holder. I highly recommend this product!
There is no description or extra photos. Is this a bucket inside an insulated holder and I assume the horse just pushes down on s float that sits on the surface? Thanks for you help.
W K on Mar 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Last one of these I saw, it was indeed a 5 gallon bucket inside an insulated "holder." The kind my neighbor has isn't High Country Plastics, but I believe their design is the same.
Will other five gallon buckets fit in this holder? (In case the one included breaks.)
Nancy J on Apr 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: As per High Country, any standard five gallon bucket should fit in the holder.
