This feeder will be outside. How are people securing it to the ground or a post? I live in MN so lots of snow and bitter cold. I have heard of horse pushes this around with feet it will crack and chunks come off in bitter cold. Is this true? Do you replace it?

If the grate is across the top, how do they reach the hay as it is eaten lower to the floor?
Shirley M on Jan 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The grate is removed and inserted through a slot located along the top edge of the feeder. Once inserted, the grate actually rests on top of the hay and as the hay is eaten, the grate "floats" down on top of the remaining hay all the way to the bottom.

This is a great product ! I currently have 3, one of which I have had for about 3 years or more. My only complaint is that I wish there were an option for a grate with holes a bit smaller to help slow hay consumption even more for my chronic laminetic, EMS problem child, but as is, the slow feeder works well.
Is the rack actually POWDER COATED? Will this rust eventually if the hay has been sprayed with water to keep the dust down?
sally B on Nov 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This item is made of Polyethylene and does have a 3 year limited warranty through the manufacture.
will it come assembled?
Rhonda D on May 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi rhonda. No we had to assemble it. Very simple though. HOWEVER I would not purchase this item again as my full sized horse got her hoof stuck in the grate. Thankfully I was with her and she's very calm and stood quietly while I pulled it out. It's now collecting dust in my loft. I read the reviews the grate openings were spaced to far apart. I've since built my own.
If the manufacturer has been informed of the spacing problem between the hay bars being too wide, has the problem been corrected? I'm not sure I want to chance that happening to my gelding who would freak.
A shopper on Nov 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I was not aware of a spacing issue. But my gelding with "0" size feet continually puts his feet in the feeder, to the point the bars would bend but he never got his feet caught. My problem was I could not get the grate out without having to take the feeder apart which was easy. Each time I would get the grate flat again and start using it he would bend it again. I don't use it with him anymore but my other horse is fine when they are separated. I really liked using it, my horse is the issue
Do you have Hay Nets that are shorter than 40"? I have a POA and a Mini
A shopper on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Here are some links to shorter hay nets. Also, any of the bag styles would probably be short enough as well.
