Sturdy easy to use for the $$$
Sturdy box feeder. Will hold enough loose hay for one horse 12 -15 hours. Will also hold a single small bale.
I love this feeder. So easy to use

It has some issues but also has some benefits.
I have used one of these for a few years. The person in one of the reviews that could not get the bottom attached put it together wrong. The bottom fits inside the feeder and can lift up a little to clean out things if needed but does not come out unless taken apart. One of my horses does paw the grate when he is done with the hay and bends the grate and it cannot come out unless you disassemble the sides. I don't use it with him. The yearling has not figured out how to paw it and it worked with her. I bent the grate back and then it slides in the slot again. I have it now in a pen with a brood mare and baby but without the grate due to the size of the openings, and it is a safe feeder for a foal since it has rounded plastic edges. The mare does move it all over though by pushing it with her nose. I agree that the grate needs to be a heavier material that does not bend and a smaller opening. It has its uses but is pricey.

Successfully used but then.....
I have had 2 of these for 2 years or so and in the horses stalls. CORRECTIONS that must be made and then it would be superior:The box must be made in ONE piece which may be more of a shipping problem BUT, it comes apart creating a huge mess; the top box comes off the bottom piece as the ridge on the bottom is only about 2 inches high so when horses are pulling hay thru the metal grate, the hay tugs on the grate and the horse lifts the grate up which lifts the top portion of the hay box OFF the bottom base. If they would correct this the product would be SUPERIOR! Very safe molded heavy duty plastic or poly.

Awesome
This has saved so much hay, my horse is so bad about trampling his hay and then not eating it but not with this! Just wish it came in individual sizes so I could put one in his stall.

Best slow feeder!!!!
I was skeptical about paying so much for a feeder, but the way the feeder works it actually saves you money but saving waste of your hay.Instead of the horses throwing it on the ground to get to the small leaves, they eat what the grate presents. It slows them down, makes the feeding last for many hours instead of a few and you can fill it to last a whole days worth of feed. I love it. Whole heartedly recommend this to anyone who owns one horse or many.

I bought 2 of these because I have to seperate my horses at feeding time. They work great and I no longer have wasted hay. I did have a problem with my horses stepping inside the box thus bending the medal grates making it very difficult removing the grates through the thin opening in the side of the units when filling it with hay. you can get replacement grates.. I was told by the manufacture that sometimes horses will get frustrated at first in having to slowly pull the hay causing them to step inside. once they adjust it is no longer a problem. I do still recommend this product.

Pleased with this product
Thankful to have been able to purchase this slow feeder. It definitely has already paid for itself because of no more wasted hay. And they actually seem to enjoy it! It does keep them busy and seems very helpful towards helping them to eat more slowly and to more efficiently digest their haythus more healthy for them.I found an easy solution for anchoring it in one area with the use of two straps. So I have no complaints!

Simple to use
I love this feeder and it's ease to fill. I drilled a hole above the grate line on each side and tied it within the gate panel instead of using the gate. Perfect fit. My two horses can access the feeder from both sides. It's great when I have long days and a late feeding schedule. Also keeps them in hay supply in extreme cold.I know one of my guys stepped in it to get to the other side. No one hurt and hay feeder in tack.it is a bit pricey.

OK for the right horse part 2
I have been using two of these for 3 months.....- There is no way to secure the box to a wall, this could have been solved with a few holes to add straps.- If flipped over, the bottom just comes apart. I have solved this by fitting the box into a corner and putting my mats in front and on the side, I also added gravel to make sure the box was flat as if it is not flat the bottom would not stay secure and in place.- High country plastics should offer different sizes of grates (hole opening), secure the bottom to the box, widen the opening to slide the grate into the box (this is done with every feeding), add some way to attach to a wall. With these changes I think the box would be a great product.- Cost is comparable to other quality feeders.

Does not work
I purchased two of these with the thought that I could reduce my feeding schleps three times a day. I put six flakes of hay in this for two thoroughbreds and they were gone before lunch. It has a really bad design as the feeder slides right off the bottom of the base, which has no way to attach. It's light so horses easily move it around, off the base and the grate just does not slow any horse down. For $300 a piece, I expect to not have to modify something I spent that amount of money on - ie. figure out how to attach it to the base, attach it to a fence and have extra bars welded on.I would not waste your money. I returned both of mine.

This feeder will be outside. How are people securing it to the ground or a post? I live in MN so lots of snow and bitter cold. I have heard of horse pushes this around with feet it will crack and chunks come off in bitter cold. Is this true? Do you replace it?

If the grate is across the top, how do they reach the hay as it is eaten lower to the floor?
Shirley M on Jan 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The grate is removed and inserted through a slot located along the top edge of the feeder. Once inserted, the grate actually rests on top of the hay and as the hay is eaten, the grate "floats" down on top of the remaining hay all the way to the bottom.

This is a great product ! I currently have 3, one of which I have had for about 3 years or more. My only complaint is that I wish there were an option for a grate with holes a bit smaller to help slow hay consumption even more for my chronic laminetic, EMS problem child, but as is, the slow feeder works well.
Is the rack actually POWDER COATED? Will this rust eventually if the hay has been sprayed with water to keep the dust down?
sally B on Nov 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This item is made of Polyethylene and does have a 3 year limited warranty through the manufacture.
will it come assembled?
Rhonda D on May 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi rhonda. No we had to assemble it. Very simple though. HOWEVER I would not purchase this item again as my full sized horse got her hoof stuck in the grate. Thankfully I was with her and she's very calm and stood quietly while I pulled it out. It's now collecting dust in my loft. I read the reviews the grate openings were spaced to far apart. I've since built my own.
If the manufacturer has been informed of the spacing problem between the hay bars being too wide, has the problem been corrected? I'm not sure I want to chance that happening to my gelding who would freak.
A shopper on Nov 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I was not aware of a spacing issue. But my gelding with "0" size feet continually puts his feet in the feeder, to the point the bars would bend but he never got his feet caught. My problem was I could not get the grate out without having to take the feeder apart which was easy. Each time I would get the grate flat again and start using it he would bend it again. I don't use it with him anymore but my other horse is fine when they are separated. I really liked using it, my horse is the issue
Do you have Hay Nets that are shorter than 40"? I have a POA and a Mini
A shopper on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Here are some links to shorter hay nets. Also, any of the bag styles would probably be short enough as well.
