Hock Shields
I really like the hock shields. This is the first product that I've found that stay on his hocks.

solved the problem
I would recommend this product to anyone that has a horse with sores on their hocks. I had tried many topical agents to help heal the wounds that my mare had but because she has a difficult time getting up and was rubbing her hocks every time she tried to stand they would not heal. The wounds are now healing slowly but surely. I will leave the shields on her at night and hope that this will be the long term solution.

Mostly stays in place
Both of my horses no longer have bleeding hocks just one week after using this. It does slip down to their ankle on occasion but another description that said it stays up 95% of the tile is pretty accurate. It is thick so it takes a long time to dry when washed. I use it for 27 year old gelding and a 12 year old gelding.

Excellent Product - be sure to measure before purchasing
My large gelding had open hock sores from getting up and down in his stall, despite excellent bedding in a large stall. My trainer recommended I look for Hock Boots. I did a search and Horse.com and found these. I was unsure of the size so I actually measured my gelding at the top of the hock, where the pictures shows the strap is. Glad I did. If I'd have guessed, I would have bought Medium and he was 16" so I went up to the Large. They fit him perfectly and his hock sores are gone! I do put them on every night and remove them every morning. He is not bothered by them at all. I highly recommend them!

Hock shields are amazing
I love these hick shields. They fit great, stay on, and protect hocks well. So easy to use.

Disappointed
I bought these since my mare has hock sores. I had heard lots of great things about these boots so I decided to try them. I got them and was impressed. The part was that touches the horse is very soft and the outer material seems like it should hold up well. Over all it seems like it would be a great product... if it would stay up. I couldn't get these to stay on without tightening them so much they were cutting into her. I tried for about a week to get them to stay, but after coming out every morning to find them laying in the dirt I gave up. I also felt that the price was a bit expensive for what they are.

Great Protection for your Horse
My husband's Arabian was getting sores on his hocks getting up and down. So, the vet recommended these. We love them and so does the horse. He has gotten to the point where he will position his leg to have them taken off and on. We have more than one set and we swap them out at least once a week. They will get dirty and we prefer to keep them clean as much as possible. I wash on delicate cycle with Woolite. I make sure the velcro bands are folded over prior to washing to prevent damage to the velcro strips. They come out super clean afterwards, almost new. They do get worn depending on how rough your horse is. So, we have replaced our sets more than once. They last 3-6 months. But, still cheaper than a vet bill or not being able to ride because the horse has a serious sore. You get a set of two (left and right) and you do need to pay attention to put them on the correct side.

When you buy this item, do you get just one or do you get a pair?
A shopper on Mar 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You get a pair. And they really do stay in place, even on an Arab with a lot of hock action!
can these hock shields protect my horses hocks while working? she sometimes hits her hocks while trotting...
A shopper on Sep 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I only use them to protect my horse's hocks at night, but I would not hesitate to try them during work - as long as they are not too tight or used for an extended period of time. You also might try using one only during work and alternate - use left hock shield one day and right hock shield the next day. And, beware, the large size are really large. Be sure to measure carefully.
how do you measure for hock shields?
A shopper on Jun 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Measure around the leg above the hock where you see the fleece in the photo.
