Product Summary:

Keratex Hoof Putty

Seals & Protects Hoof Cavities & Abscess Wounds.

Keratex Hoof Putty seals and waterproofs horn separation cavities, preventing germs from compromising hoof health. Self-adhesive, flexible and won't drop out or deteriorate.

Seals and stabilizes hoof cavities caused by seedy toe, white line disease and other hoof conditions resulting in horn separation. Prevents grit and stones from entering the hoof. Can support tubes for flushing or draining cavities.

Keratex Hoof Putty is a unique type of malleable wax containing slow release organic disinfectants and antibacterials. Use to fill cavities left by conditions such as seedy toe and after the removal of abscesses from the sole. The broad spectrum organic disinfectants in Keratex Hoof Putty are effective in treating both fungal and bacterial problems.

Sold in 200 gm cans

Start with a clean dry hoof. Wash and dry hands as well. Work a piece of Keratex Hoof Putty in your hands until it turns soft and tacky. Press this piece of putty into the cavity. Repeat until the cavity is filled and putty is level with surrounding horn or sole. When shoeing over or close to areas filled with Hoof Putty it is essential that only cold shoeing or gluing is used. Where Hoof Putty has been applied under a shoe, it must be replaced at next shoeing. In all other cases check weekly and replace as required.

Once inserted, Keratex Hoof Putty hardens to its former state, providing a good seal against water and dirt, and can be used on either shod or unshod hooves.

I WILL BE SENDING KERATEX HOOF PUTTY BACK
I CAN NOT TELL YOU ABOUT THE FEATURES OF THIS PRODUCT BECAUSE I CAN NOT GET IT OUT OF THE CAN. IT IS HARD AS A ROCK. IT HAD GREAT REVIEWS AND I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO USING IT ON MY MARE'S FEET. UNLESS SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO GET IT OUT OF THE CAN, I CAN NOT WRITE A GOOD REVIEW.

I purchased the hoof putty for a quarter horse that had an abscess in the sole of his front hoof going up the hoof wall. I needed something to fill in the void and keep mud and sticks from getting back inside. I applied this product and it works great. The only advice I would offer is to make sure you get enough out of the can at first to fill the void. If you didn't get enough out of the can the first time, and have to add to the void, it will not stick to what you first applied due to the heat difference. Get a big bunch, heat it up by rolling it in your hands, and if you have some left over, put it back in the can. Happy trails!

Just what we needed
This putty is great! It stays where we put it and keeps dirt and moisture out of the problem area of the hoof. Completely satisfied with it, as it does just what it says it will do.

Good
Like the product it isn't easily applied is my biggest problem with it. It helps protect the hoof until it can grow out.

My farrier uses this, I ordered it for myself and it keeps the shoes ON my horse when nothing else will
I love this product. It's tough, it works, I use it on my TB and it just flat out keeps his shoes on. TuffStuff does not hold up to this stuff!

So far so good, so it seems - - - only been using it less than 10 days
Pressing the putty up into the crack and making it " concave" so it doesn't touch the outer area of the hoof helps to keep it in place.. . Time will tell but so far so good. Be sure to wear gloves because putty is very gooey when softened up and it will ruin a manicure. ;-)This is not a permanent fix. Needs to be checked regularly.. Again, time will tell if it does what I expect/hope it will do which is prevent an abscess. .

Doesn't work
Bought this for my quarter/arab horse with a crack. Nothing big. I follow the instructions, ect - and it just plain old doesn't work. It comes off as soon as my mare walk through the pasture. Save your money, this product was a waste of mine.

I love Keratex products, but this one wasn't very impressive. Perhaps it was me, the user, but it didn't stay in the openings between hoof wall and sole.

Introduced to this product by our farrier. We now keep it on hand just in case. It is a great product that will help hooves during the healing process after abscesses or other issues that have causes breakage or separation of the hoof wall.

Going to try this to help rebuild the horribly damaged front hoof of my 24 yr-old white-footed, pinto MFT whose feet literally fell apart. I wish I could post photos here. Also using Keratex Gel. See my review there.

HORSE HAS CRACKED HOOF
CASSIE O on Feb 24, 2014
My horse tore out a chunk of his hoof on the outside but my farrier was able to get the shoe back on. Is this something I can use to fill the gap? It's a triangular shaped gap.

BEST ANSWER: It's a good product to try for that. Please make sure you get enough out of the can all at once and warm it up thoroughly in your hands before application. We also highly recommend you check with your farrier for any other ideas or instructions.
