Product Summary:

Keratex Mud Shield Powder
Waterproofs Legs & Body Against the Effects of Mud & Water.

Keratex Mud Shield Powder guards against the effects of mud and water on horses' legs and body. It will thoroughly disinfect the skin areas as well. Unlike creams and ointments which contribute to further softening of the skin, Keratex Mud and Shield Powder allows the skin to breathe while repelling water and mud particles.

During wet weather mud and water can cause serious problems which affect the skin on horses' legs and body.

Keratex Mud Shield Powder has a unique waterproofing action which simply stops these problems before they start by preventing water from softening the skin. It is this softening effect of continual water saturation which allows mud particles to enter the pores of the skin and cause irritation, which can then lead to further complications. In addition to waterproofing the hide, Keratex Mud Shield Powder also contains a powerful disinfectant to maintain the skin in a healthy condition.

Sold in 450 gm plastic shaker bottles.

Apply daily by sprinkling onto clean dry legs and body skin. Rub well into the skin against the lay of the hair.

Use Mud Shield Powder to protect existing skin lesions. This will keep them dry and avoid further infection. Dry scabs will form and these should be allowed to drop off naturally.

Repels mud
This product is great, the mud season is just beginning and it seems to be repelling the mud off of my horses lower legs. Hoping to make it through the season without scratches or fungus.

The only thing that has worked!
I LOVE Keratex Mud Shield! I have been fighting year round dew poisoning on my elderly horse for nearly 3 years. After using Keratex Mud Shield religiously on rainy days or when the ground is muddy, all of the scabs have cleared from his pasterns, he has new hair growing and he is pain free! It did not take long to clear up the scabby areas using Mud Shield, I used it on him every day for a while, then every other day, and now we only have to use it as weather conditions dictate to prevent the dew poisoning from recurring. I have tried different products and wasted lots of time and money over the past 3 years, and this is the only product that has worked consistently!

Clears infection quickly
My gelding had mud fever on his pastern. There was one wound in particular that had become worrisome. It was a deep fissure with swelling around it. After taking great pains to clean it out (incuding all scabs), I applied Keratex Mud Shield Powder every day for 2 weeks (I'm on week 2 now). The wound is well on it's way to disappearing, and I'm so impressed at how well this powder has kept the water and moisture away. At first I thought it was a bit pricey, but this will be my go-to treatment for mud fever in the future. I am sold.

Works great to prevent my Friesian from getting Scratches
I like this product. I puff it on my Friesians feathers to keep them dry before I head to the arena. Keeps the sand footing from causing scratches. I also use it on rainy days before turning him out.

THIS PRODUCT PREVENTS SCRATCHES(aka dew poisoning). I dust it heavily on my horses heels and fetlock area before his evening turnout. I started doing this in the late spring, once the grass and weeds were thick. This is the second year I have used it , and it virtually eliminates the problem. Before using MUD SHIELD, I had tried zinc oxide, barrier boots, all kinds of sprays, etc. NOTHING WORKED till Mud Shield. If you have struggled with this problem, try the will amaze you!

Why did you choose this? Store
It is very wet, rainy and muddy this time if the year in the northeast and I don't want to leave the horses locked up day after day just because the ground is horrible. I thought I would give this product a try, so far it is the only thing I have found remotely like it.

Can you use this product on any area of the horse's hooves?

BEST ANSWER: I use this product on the skin only. We pasture on river bottom land, which stays damp/wet most of the time. The powder works great as a preventative to skin conditions referred to as "mud fever," "scratches," "photo-sensitivity." One of my horses has a lot of white and we have battled scratches for YEARS. We shampoo his legs, dry thoroughly, apply a generous amount of powder, work the powder to the skin. If your horse's hooves are suffering from wet conditions, try the Keratex Hoof GEL. That product really helps keep too much moisture from softening the hoof and helps to keep shoes on for the full 5 weeks. But, you must apply the product at least 3 times per week.
