Wasted my money
I have 2 horses and one mule. One horse will eat anything, except these. She hates them, and she's the one that needs them. So, I tried feeding them to the other 2. Nope. They wouldn't touch the wafers, even with molasses on them. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

Really works
This is great for nervous horses. Changed my high strung paint horse so that now I can work with him easier.

Ineffective
Did not change nervous yearlings. Friends did find effective with mature horses

Works amazing when trailering and at shows!!!
My mare gets so stressed out when we trailer somewhere and at our first show the treats helped her relax and stay concentrated. I am so happy! She didn't like the taste but it totally worked. I would recommend giving one in the morning before you leave or whatever and one in the middle of the day. Love it!

My horse doesn't care for the taste, but others in the barn no problem
This is a very convenient way to give supplements to your horse.

Worth trying
This product no doubt works differently on each horse. It was perfect for my 6-year old mare but had less of an effect on her 4-year old half sibling. I do think it helped the 4-year old gelding but simply didn't have as much of an effect. I will continue to use these on him before I ride, nonetheless. The mare ate it gladly. For my gelding, I had to break it up and disguise it just a bit. The product smelled and looked very fresh.

makes a difference
My barn manager says he sees the difference in my mare after I let these supplements run out. So- I have since replaced them!

Bad tasting
Worked great when my horse ate it. After a while, she refused and it had to be crushed in her morning grain to get it down. Won't buy again, need something easier.

Sorta Works
I purchased these for 2 new mini-geldings that I recently rescued from a kill pen. I bought them for sporadic use during periods of high stress such as vet visits, farrier visits, etc. They did really seem to relax one of the geldings, but they just agitated the other gelding. He actually became MORE nervous and nippy after taking these. I guess these aren't for every horse.

IT CALMS MY GELDING
This products really works at calming my gelding for trips away from home. I like that he thinks of it as a treat, but it is more of a treat for me to have a balanced horse to ride.

I purchased 2 mini horses from a kill pen a year ago. Both were about 15 years old and had apparently been stallions most of their lives. Once was so recently gelded that he was not completely healed. Between studly behaviors plus the stress of being hauled away from their homes to strange places, I decided to try this to help settle them in. It worked quite well in helping to calm them down for vet and farrier visits, and I keep them on a light dose daily for maintenance.

Wanted to try on my mare. Easier than using as a topical dressing on feed.

After a relocation of almost 2,000 miles, and leaving her stable mate there was a need for some calming effect on my 21 yr old mare. She now looks for her daily wafer and it has been a relief for her not to worry so much about new surroundings.

One wafer appears to work. My horse is a bit fidgety when being groomed and saddled, but not now. I give him a wafer and in minutes he is calm and cooperative. I break it up into 4 pieces and give it to him as a treat.

I have an abandoned, abused young mule I have chose to keep with my two long time possession horses, one of which is a previously abused arab/quarter mare. We had to dart him to catch him to doing any handling including hoof trim and vacinnations. I made a bit of progress after the drugs were wearing off but not enough for future safe handling. I HAVE to try something short of
"playing darts" to help this nightmare filled guy.

I buy these because my horse loves them, so I know that he is actually GETTING the benefit of the supplement, rather than wasting it.

My mare just spooked and threw me for the 2nd time 3 days ago. She's on Mare Magic, which has helped some. I'm hoping adding this new product may make her a little more mellow. (I'll check with my vet first).

Does this product work best if given before working or does it matter as long as they get it daily?
thank you
Carol O on Jan 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I ordered these to try since I could get them faster than any others. I gave them a half hour before I was supposed run so they would have time to kick in. Thank goodness I did my horse had the opposite reaction and went insane. I'm so thankful that I was with him the whole time after giving them, when he calmed down he was still shaking and wouldn't stop moving unless he had his head on me. When we asked our vet she said some horses can have the opposite reaction to calming aids. We have tried other calming options becuse he is a very nervous horse that always has to be moving and he had the same reaction to all of them. I ended up giving these to a friend and her horse was fine with them they didn't calm him down that much (he is a real hot horse) but he didn't have the problem my horse did. I'd say the best thing to do is give them a little while before you want to work the first time so you can see how your horse responds and go from there.
What resources are out there to calm a horse, so He doesn't need to be lunged for 20 minutes before riding ?
cynthia b on Mar 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Cynthia,
What most definitely worked for me was to Change His Diet. I have done a lot of research into the nutrition of horses and I just recently took an online course through Coursera about horse nutrition.
The most important thing to look at is feeding your horse a more natural way. Cereals such as corn, barley, oats, wheat are quite high in sugars and starches. These particular kind of carbohydrates can give your horse too much energy that he doesn't need. My horse used to bolt, rear, spook and he acted as if he was ADHD. As soon as I put him on a feed that had only high quality fiber such as BEET PULP, RICE BRAN, SOYBEAN meal, ALFALFA... his behavior completely changed. For energy, I give him high fats such as oil, coconut. In any article you read, you will see that fats have a much higher energy potential than the cereals. The best part of it is that fats are cool energy. They do not hype up your horse. Do some research into your feed. Look for high protein ( 12-16 percent), high fat (10% +), and high fiber (15% +) and low starch most importantly.
My horse has become very calm. No more spooking, he pays attention, and less ulcers and colic. Also check into some calming supplements and keep it consistent. If this helps, it will give you more confidence when you are riding him and he does feel that. Good luck! Monique
I have a 6 year old mare and we have been giving her mare magic And via calm in her feed but it's not working on her. When we go to run she gets so amped. We have been giving her clorapromazin about an hour before I run her and it seems to help but I do not want to keep giving it to her every time I have to run her. What would be the best thing to try? She is the calmest horse if you walk in the pasture and hop on her bareback but once you get in the alley she is a totally different horse.
A shopper on Feb 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would imagine she just knows her job and gets fired up like a lot of horses do in the alley. I use this to try to knock the edge of my mare who is very skiddish, spooks easily and is very jumpy. It seems to help but if I want to run her across a field it certainly wouldn't slow her down any. I do like this product mainly because I do not have to feed her a meal before I ride just to get calming supplements in to her. I give her the wafer while I'm grooming her and saddling up and by then it takes effect. Does not slow her down, makes her less skiddish and less spooked.
My horse that I bought these for (of course) won't eat them!!! She's picky as it is w/grain ect....HELP! Can anyone give me advice on how to get her to eat the wafers besides starving her? Thank you ;-)
A shopper on Mar 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I found that any “grain” makes our horses act a fool. We switched over to just a ration balancer, obviously with free choice hay 24/7. But one is a hard keeper so I add a weight building supplement to her balancer. The grain is just too much for them, makes em nuts. With that being said, my one mare is still a nut so I use these when I ride her. I broke them up and mixed them with her balancer and she ate them that way and got use to them. Maybe add them to her grain and then try to hand feed it to her once she gets used to them (just an idea). Personally I’d back off using grain and replace it with a balancer and you’d probably see the difference. But good luck, one of my mares wouldn’t touch them either but she’s super picky.
Can they be used when needed or do you have be given daily?
Sherry H on May 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I only used them when needed (riding) and in my opinion they work well. I even asked my daughter who rides with me if she can tell they work and she said YES.
will this work on donkeys?
gena d on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I would think it would work for donkeys I dont know I dont have one.
