Product Summary:

FLIES-A-WAY™ contains all natural ingredients to help repel biting insects. Diatomaceous Earth (DE), an all-natural element used for over 400 years to help control insects, is added to help prevent fly larvae from hatching in the manure. When fed, the product passes through the horses system into the manure. The sharp edges of the DE cut the outer layer of the insect's exoskeleton, causing dehydration.

It works for my TWH who is allergic to flys. Keeps him in check and I use it with my other two horses also. Plus it is all natural ingredients does not harm them. It also works on the flys outwardly. Thanks for a great product. I also use the 5 +1 HA.

It has been said that Diatomacous earth does not cut up the insects when it is wet. When digested isn't it wet from [the digestive juices, water etc in the digestive tract? How can this product be effective? Does it work externally when the manure and Diatomacous earth dry outside of the animal?

BEST ANSWER: I have been using this for a few years and I noticed that flies will land on my horse, but not bite. I use it all year instead of annually because the garlic has health benefits and my vet said it helps with worm control since I don’t always remember to give my horses their paste wormers on time. I put my mom’s horse on it who was getting chewed up by gnats and losing his mane from scrathing the bites. After being on Flies-A-Way, the gnats were no longer biting him and his mane gree back :)

Safe for pregnant/lactating mares with a foal?
A shopper on Jan 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Somewhere on the bucket it should say, whether it is safe for pregnant or lactating mares. It should also say if it safe for the foal and what age it can be fed to the baby. If you can find nothing saying that it is safe for mom and/or baby, I would definitely call my vet and ask him/her if it is safe. Worse come to worse I would not feed it if it says nothing and you can't get a good answer, don't feed it, find a safe product suitable for the mare and foal. They are too precious to take a chance on feeding a product that may or may not be safe for them.
