Mustang Canvas Felt Bottom Round Ranch Pad

The bad:Pad is not 1 inch thick, it is 3/4 inch thick.This felt is not as dense as I like. Felt pads should be fairly "hard" which provides protection from pressure points. I am using a 1/2" wool felt pad under it to compensate for the thickness and density.I assumed it was a wool blend (I really wish horse.com would list materials consistantly), but it does not look to have any wool in it/feels purely synthetic. I would not use it against my horse without a liner. I only use wool blend or better against my horse to keep her back cool and dry and dense wool felt is superior in protecting from pressure points.Does not feel very durable. I gave average rating on durability as only time will tell.The good:It appears to be a decent starter, economy pad and it does conform well.It wicks moisture and "breathes" surprisingly well for a synthetic pad.Looks nice under my thin blanket I use for looks/color and fits well/looks good under my Aussie Barcoo saddle.

The pad is well made. The felt is what I would call a medium density felt, which I prefer, as it is more conforming than the higher density hard felt, found on the more expensive pads. The pad is advertised as being 1 inch thick, but it is more like 3/4 inch thick, but still plenty thick. I only gave it a 4-rating for durability as I have only used it for a short time, and the jury is still out on how well it holds up. I did "Scotch-Guard" the canvas top when I received it to assure some water resistance, but the canvas seems substantial enough to be able to put up with a fair amount of abuse. I intend on buying a second pad to have as a spare as the 30 inch length, and its round shape, fits my saddle and horse perfectly, not running up on the rump as the longer pads do.

I was really excited about this pad. I was disapointed that it burned my horse and came unglued the first time i used it. I hope that this pad works for others but my horse and i were not satisfied.

I ride very challenging trails and its first use was 20 miles of combined road and trails in southeastern MN. I only buy felt because it does not slip. This pad stays in place and so did my saddle. It seemed to cushion my horse well; I have an Abetta 15" saddle and I am about 120#. This pad soaks up sweat through the canvas. There are three thin layers of felt. I think it would accommodate a 16" saddle, but no bigger. If your saddle is heavy, you might want another felt pad under this one. Delivery only took 3 days :) I've never had a pad soak through with sweat; temp was about 40F degrees.
