Good quality for the price
Using this side pull with a young horse for training works well.

Have not used it yet
Received this and love how it looks. However I have not been able to use it yet as I need to add more holes. It is too long for my mustang.

Never again.
This side-pull isn't worth the money. The noseband is VERY VERY VERY stiff and ripped the hair off of my mare's nose without me even really using it.It is HUGE (smallest setting BARELY fits my warmblood and half draft.)The throat latch is tiny, I had to replace it because even on the first hole it was almost choking my horse.Slides around a lot, when I applied pressure for a turn the cheek piece came up and rubbed my girl's eye.Going to buy a higher quality side-pull, and throw this one in the trash.

Works
My trainer recommended I get one of these for my youngster that I started. Overall it's an ok product. I had to replace the chin strap since the one that came with it was too stiff. Over time the whole headstall became somewhat stiff and it's hard to adjust. The nose band is pretty smooth. I haven't had any issues with it rubbing.

Awesome
This is an awesome product I use is in barrels and jumping and it has held up well but does rub the nose a little bit but my mom made a sleeve to go over it.overall a great buy.

Nice!
Very well made and nice looking. Definite horse size rather than cob, so take that into consideration when ordering. The only downside (for me) is that it is too big for my Molly mule, but believe I can remedy the problem by adding some additional holes.

Just OK
For the price this could've been great. Throat latch strap is too short even with more holes. Headstall buckles are curved at the top while the nylon is flat and wide so adjusting isn't easy. (Do they try these things before they throw them on the market???) A thinner, stiffer rawhide noseband would've been much more effective as this rawhide strap doesn't do much no matter how hard you pull. The strap on the back of the noseband doesn't allow for much adjustment. It may work for your needs with modifications on an old broke horse with mouth issues but I probably wouldn't buy it again.

not recommended for un-experienced horses or persons new to bosel/side pulls
the needles on the buckles are on wrong side therefore the buckles are un-safe. the chin strap is missing. the product didn't fit properly it was way big and had to do alot of adjusting to it. After i had to re do the buckles, add a chin strap, re-drill holes and finally get it safe. -upon using it on a green colt on the ground i noticed it was sliding around and ill fitted causing confusion to the new colt. - i used it on a senior roping horse- the design is so precise to her face that she responds well to slight pulls and cues but noticed it still slides around, so if i had to quickly pull a nose around to do a stop the head stall wont remain in place. would not recommend for a mustang

Great Value
I just purchased this side pull and I love it. It's very attractive, the nose piece is effective without being too harsh on the sensitive skin over the nose and I have always found nylon headstalls very easy to clean and very durable. It was a little big for my horse but I was able to add 1 hole and it fits him fine. He works great with it and you can't beat the price! Only wish it came in black and I would order another one to go with my black saddle.

Great for the price
This overall is a good product. When fitted properly, it gives me the control I need in the round pen or arena. It is slightly large on my Paint, but fits my foundation QH perfect. It is very easy to burn holes in to make it more adjustable. I replaced the nylon curb strap with a curb chain and feel that it gives my stop commands the bite I need for trails. No head tossing at all in this side pull! Four stars on quality because of a cosmetic issue...I could see the lining under the braided rawhide hanging out about 1/4 in on each side of the nose piece.

Borrowed a bitless bridle from a friend to use for a trail ride and our 17 year old mare seemed so much more relaxed without anything in her mouth. I couldn't find one exactly like the one I borrowed but this looks close and for the price I really hope it works.

can you hook up reins to it???????????????????
margaret on Jul 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: yes you can. there are rings for the reins to attach to... I used it on an unbroken horse as her first headstall. We got some really long driving reins so that we could crisscross them under her chin. This allowed us to move her nose... We also bought a halter padding set to cover the rawhide so that it didn't rub... worked great..
Did the rawhide noseband rip up the horse's nose?
ShapeShifter314 on Mar 28, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi, I actually wrapped the noseband with a soft felt like material before I ever used it.(the kind of fabric that you would use for edging on a blanket so it doesn't fray) so I don't know if it would. It is pretty stiff though. Personally, I wouldn't use it just plain unless the horse is already very soft. I also added another strap to the first rings that goes under my horses cheeks so it doesn't mover around his face so much.(it tends to move up very close to the eye sometimes) I do like it though and I actually sewed turquoise beads onto the browband and it looks real nice. :-)
would this fit a pony?

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, this is only available in standard horse size.
