Product Summary:

Parmak Solar Pak 6 Fence Charger

America's first solar-powered electric fencer, the Parmak Solar Pak 6, is low impedance and features exclusive built-in performance meter. It shocks through wet weeds and brush for livestock control in small to medium size pastures.

The Solar Pak 6's laser-trimmed, computer-precision, solid state circuitry provides reliable, powerful low impedance shock to end of fence. It uses free energy from the sun for maximum shock, day or night, and eliminates the need for expensive battery replacement or inconvenient recharging. The at-a-glance built-in performance meter shows you the fence condition: good, marginal or bad. While reaching maximum power in direct sunlight, battery will charge even on cloudy days, and will operate for 21 days in total darkness when fully charged.

To keep horses from pushing down on new fence. This looks like what I need for this problem, since no access to electricity.

Great Chargers, and Parmak has a great warranty. Even when one is out of warranty, I send it back for repairs.
CHARLENE H on Mar 1, 2016
okay product, I suggest going with the next step up and a fence charger that puts out more of a jolt. The goats did try this box a few times. After switching boxes they quit touching the fence.

How is this charger grounded?
A shopper on May 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: A grounding rod, not included. Connect with green grounding wire.
Does this come with a battery?
A shopper on Feb 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. ... I use mine for dogs. .. been working through snow and holding a strong charge. 1yr+ and counting.

I would recommend to anyone. ..
stopped turning on?
A shopper on Aug 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I had a problem with mine at first. Turns out I had a short in one of the wires and it was causing the unit to drain. Is it making a faint "clicking" noise (do you see the needle bounce at all?) check that there isn't an corrosion on the ground wire and that your other connections are tight. If all else fails open the unit and test the battery. Hope that helps.
Quit turning on what could be my problem?
Justin B on Jun 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Disconnect the wires and turn it on, if there is a needle on it, then it should show all way to the right, if not the battery has been discharged. you may have to leave it off for a couple of days to recharge the battery, to bring it inside and put a charger on it for a day or so.
can i buy a battery for this charger?
A shopper on Jun 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, item # BXF5706 Parmak Replacement 6 Volt Battery
I am thinking of using your solar charger to electrify 2 wires of a 5 wire horse fence. I plan to run the wires straight through the center of each post (treated pine 4 in. diameter.) insulated by small non conductive electrical conduit and sealed at each end with RTV.. Do you think this setup is feasible?
Robert K on May 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I cannot guarantee that this would adequately contain your livestock.
Is this fence charger strong enough for bulls?
A shopper on May 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have used this charger for about a year. It has performed well during this time. My gelding respects the fence and I have had no break outs due to it’s performance. I have used it with two strands of polyrope and step in fencing.
Does this charger have an on/off switch?
Patricia H on Mar 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The black toggle in the lower center part of the control box is the on/off switch. My unit has worked well to protect my garden from deer for two years now.
HOW LONG DO THE BATTERIES USUALLY LAST? WARRANTY?
MELINDA B on Aug 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have about a dozen 12 and 6 volt Parmaks. I've had the new 12v units go for 5 years before the battery needs replacing. The 6 volt unit uses half the batteries of the 12 v. I would expect it to last nearly as long. The service at the company is great. I've bought old used units that had problems and I sent them back to the factory for service at a very reasonable cost. These things are bomber, definitely a step above others on the market.
I bought 1 of these approx 4months ago will not work battery is good any suggestions?
A shopper on Aug 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Mine took 2 days of sun to charge(hangs on fence post) then has worked great now for 2 yrs.,make sure you have it connected & grounded properly too. Also make sure you dont have weeds, brush growing on fence wire or tape. It should read in the green area when charged! If yours still does not work then take it back to store. I bought mine new at TSC Good Luck
What type of wire/tape would you recommend to use with this fence charger?
A shopper on Jan 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I prefer the old fashioned wire, but you can use any type you want. While the tape or rope type have better visibility, I just tie on some surveyors tape if there is a new horse or I move the fence. The wire is more reasonably priced, sturdier, longer lasting and easier to repair.
what do color codes mean?
A shopper on Jun 8, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The green on the indicator needle means the fence is properly charging. Red means there is a problem with the box or on the fence. Last month I was checking on it and found the needle on red and found my hot wire had got blown or pushed into my field fence grounding it out. Got the hot wire loose from the fence and it was back in the green and working properly. Had this charger for about four months now and have been real happy with it. Keeps my neighbors donkey from pushing down on my field fence!
Will this charger work with powerfields 7mm poly rope? I plan t use 3 strands for a 1 acre paddock.
kris m on Feb 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This is for an electric fence. Does the poly rope include wire in its makeup? If so, it will work. I use heavy duty white tape with the wire, and it works great. Make sure you ground it well.
What's the difference between the 6 volt and 12 volt system?
John W on Aug 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I agree with BEST ANSWER the 12 Volt has more power or more current to shock something that is stubborn, like bulls. But in most cases 6 volt will hold most any animals using at least 2 wires and 4 other strands. I use 4 strands of 15 gauge barbed wire and 2 are electrified to hold cows, calves and bulls.
Will this deter bears or mountain lions from tearing into my chicken coop and run?
ROBERT S on Aug 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Good question. Possibly. This is the strongest fence charger that I've found for my horses. I would think you'd need to conduct a mesh fence or low strand for those animals. Good Luck!.
Show me how to replace the battery in the 25 mile Parmak fence charger ? Thanks
Pamela on Aug 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: How to open a Parmak Solar-Pak Battery Compartment
The solar panel is riveted to battery case.
The battery case lid is attached to the battery case by friction.
Remove the battery compartment lid by either pulling straight up on the solar panel or by using a flat head screwdriver lift battery case lid just above the raised ridge of battery case.
Carefully remove the battery case lid with solar panel to expose battery inside battery case. There may be cardboard packing inside the battery case used to keep the battery from shifting during shipment.
Replace cardboard after installing new battery. This will keep the new battery from moving inside the case.
Once the battery is installed, replace battery case lid securely by pressing down on the battery case lid. Make sure battery case lid is attached securely to the battery case. Be careful not to pinch wires between the battery case and the battery case lid when replacing the battery case lid.

How many square feet will this cover ?
A shopper on May 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Good, durable electric fence charger. I have mine around 3 acre pasture. Works well. Would have to check specs but believe can charge few miles of fence. Would have to do math but that gives you a heck of a lot of sq ft coverage...
How to. Change the battery?
A shopper on Nov 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The solar panel can be removed (very carefully because the wires stay attached) from the base of the charger.
Slide the old battery up and out of its location. Disconnect the old battery connections and connect the new battery sliding it back in place. Then you "snap" the solar panel back on.

I have done it by myself, but if someone can help you by holding the solar panel it would be easier.

Just be careful not to pull on the wires too much.
Hello,
My solar chargers needle is above the green but when I test the fence line directly, charge is very low.  I've checked the hot lines and they are not hitting grass or wood.  I use 2 lines of electrobraid horse wire and the area is about 6 acres.  I have 3 copper grounds in a triangle placed in a damp soil area.  I got the unit last year and followed instructions for charging before using.  Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Kim
A shopper on Apr 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Ours works great on three acres. I also have double strands but both are connected together at the ends on either side of the gate which is not electrified. Contact with the ground and touching the fence is quite a zap.
It seems my battery isn't charging how long does it take to charge from being totally dead or in the red zone ?
Paul A on Mar 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My charger stopped working. I took it to the feed store and they tested the battery, said it was fine. The feed store lady gave me the phone number for the Parmark company. Called them, the were as nice as could be. I ended up shipping it to them .... they fixed it and mailed it back, no charge. So get the battery tested, if it is not that, call the company. Good luck!
Does it work for deer?
A shopper on Jul 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We have used this for the horses when we go camping and it works really well. Do not know about deer.
How many watts does it put out?
Bryan S on Jun 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is not referenced in watts, but joules, I think the 6 volt is 2 joules. normally about 5 miles of wire. I use 4 strands of barbed wire and power 2 of the strands for 5 feet fence and it keeps cows/calves within the 25 acre lots with the 6 volt units.
What size field does this cover? I am looking at fencing 1 acre with it
Hannah J on Sep 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Item such as this one does not usually base off acres. They take the linear measurement, which is the perimeter not the square area.
