Product Summary:

Professionals Choice Ice Boot

Neoprene exterior insulates the frozen gel pockets keeping the boots colder longer, thus increasing the therapy time. Smooth nylon lining eliminates the potential for damaging the tissue from exposing the skin directly to ice; while also preventing dirt, shavings and debris from sticking to the boots. Extended hook straps allow easy application for all horses. Packaged in a convenient set of two, these boots also come with a mesh carrying bag. To activate, place in freezer until frozen, can be then transferred to ice chest or cooler for use away from the barn or a freezer. 30-Day money-back guarantee/Six-Month warranty or as required by law. Can be used on both front or hind legs. Sold in pairs.

They don't get cold enough
I tried these several times before I made my decision. They do not get cold enough. May be because they don't freeze solid. I guess they have a gel inside that keeps them flexible but they don't hold up in South Georgia heat. I returned them thanks for PC's 30 satisfaction guarantee.

Works great
Very handy to have and easy to use. Fit in living quarter horse trailer freezer so can take on road. Fit horses leg good while frozen

Much colder and easier to use than others.
We bought these for my stallion when we thought that he had foundered.Overall, they were the best. Yes, the gel freezes hard, like ice. But, it gets colder and stays cold much, much longer than the softer packs. The outer layer is neoprene which acts, I think, as insulation. The inner layer is nylon which allows the cold through. Even in the sweltering Texas summer, these boots stayed cold for over an hour and quite cool for longer than that. Some recommend wetting the horse's leg before applying the boots to aid transmission of cold. I don't know about that. The velcro is very strong but the boots are otherwise easy to put on. One person can put them on fairly easily. On my horse, they did not cover the knee but did come down almost to the coronary band. They stayed on very well, even when he lay down. These boot seemed comfortable. They do take hours to freeze solid (in the freezer compartment of a refrigerator) but we still could put them on two or three times a day.

Update
UPDATED: this is an update to my original review. After having them in the freezer for about a week I went to use them again and the 'gel inserts' were rock hard, like ice. They were not gel like at all and were not pliable, making them hard to work with. Disappointing.

Good product - should have bought the bigger size though
I got these for my quarter horse with arthritis in his one knee and in his coffin bone. I bought the normal horse size and it not quite long enough to cover his knee and go past his coronary band like it shows in the picture. He didn't like them the first time I put them on, but then stood quietly the second time. I think over all they'll help.

Do you get a pair of boots or do you have to order 2?
Susan C on Jul 25, 2015
BEST ANSWER: These boots are sold as a pair.
Do you freeze the boots or just the ice packs?
Robin O on Aug 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You freeze the whole unit. However, they are hard as a rock when you do. I returned mine and got the new version and they still are hard as a rock. I've been putting in the fridge. Doesn't obviously stay as cold as long, but I don't like putting those on his legs as hard as they are.
Do these boots hold dual ice packs on each side of tendons or a single ice pack on back of tendon?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The gel pockets go continuously around the entire boot.
I have 2 barrel horses and I am working with another one for next years show season as my gelding has heaves and my mare will be in foal. Will these boots help my horse(s) be more comfortable after work-outs or shows?
