This is my favorite bit to use for young hands that must use a curb bit.
I was a 4-H leader for several years and founded a horse rescue. Many horses ended up in the rescue because of ill fitting tack. Over the past 20 years I have purchased at least 50 0f these for kids to show in Western classess. The bit is comfortable for most horses and is forgiving even if the hands are not the softest, especially if paired with braided or cotton reins. There are no sharp edges or pinch spots on the Reinsman brand bit. Be careful because there are bits that appear to be the same that are a lot cheaper but the curve of the mouth piece is not the same and annoys the horse. Buy Reinsman brand and you will get consistent quality. The ONLY drawback is that it only comes in a 5 inch mouthpiece. I would love to be able to use this bit for ponies and for warmbloods as there is just nothing really good out there in the western category.

Reinsman loose jaw wide mullen colt bit
It is a great bit to move a horse off the snaffle. My kids show 4-H and when we needed to move off the snaffle for the western classes we were recommended this bit. It is a comfortable bit for the horse and with the loose sides can be used with 2 hands when needed. Great bit..
