Safe-Guard 25g Fenbendazole Single Dose Wormer

In Stock. Usually Ships within 24 hours.

Shipping weight = 0.16 lb.

Product Summary:

Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) Paste 10% contains the active anthelmintic known as fenbendazole. Each gram of Safe-Guard Paste 10% contains 100 mg of fenbendazole and is flavored with artificial apple-cinnamon liquid. The antiparasitic action of Safe-Guard Paste 10% is believed to be due to the inhibition of energy metabolism in the parasite.

Safe-Guard Paste 10% is indicated for the control of large strongyles (Strongylus edentatus, S. equinus, S. vulgaris), encysted early third stage (hypobiotic), late third stage and fourth stage cyathostome larvae, small strongyles, pinworms (Oxyuris equi), ascarids (Parascaris equorum), and arteritis caused by fourth stage larvae of Stongylus vulgaris in horses.

Safe-Guard Paste 10% is approved for use concomitantly with an approved form of trichlorfon. Trichlorfon is approved for the treatment of stomach bots (Gasterophilus spp.) in horses. Refer to the manufacturer's label for directions for use and cautions for trichlorfon.

Directions for Use:
(1) Determine the weight of the horse.
(2) Remove syringe tip.
(3) Turn the dial ring until the edge of the ring nearest the tip lines up with zero.
(4) Depress plunger to advance paste to tip.
(5) Now set the dial ring at the graduation nearest the weight of the horse (do not underdose).
(6) Horse's mouth must be free of food.
(7) Insert nozzle of syringe through the interdental space and deposit the paste on the back of the tongue by depressing the plunger.

Administer orally at a rate of 2.3 mg/lb (5 mg/kg) for the control of large strongyles, small strongyles, and pinworms. One syringe will deworm a 1,100 lb. horse. For foals and weanlings (less than 18 months of age) where ascarids are a common problem, the recommended dose is 4.6 mg/lb. (10 mg/kg); one syringe will deworm a 550 lb. horse.

For control of encysted early 3rd stage (hypobiotic), late 3rd stage and 4th stage cyathostome larvae and 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, the recommended dose is 4.6 mg/lb. (10 mg/kg) daily for 5 consecutive days; administer one syringe for each 550 lbs. of body weight per day.

25 gram paste 10% (100 mg/g). Tube size is 4" and the nozzle is 1-1/2".

Additional Information

Recommended Deworming Program:
**December 1, February 1, April 1, June 1, August 1, October 1. The two treatments that are in bold type are the recommended periods when the 5 day treatment regimen for the control of the migrating larvae of S. vulgaris should be performed.

**For other areas in the world, retreatment periods for the migrating larvae of S. vulgaris may be different; consult with you veterinarian.

There are no known contraindications for the use of Safe-Guard Paste 10% in horses.

Side effects associated with Safe-Guard Paste 10% could not be established in well-controlled safety studies in horses with single doses as high as 454 mg/lb. (1,000 mg/kg) and 15 consecutive daily doses of 22.7 mg/lb. (50 mg/kg). Particularly with higher doses, the lethal action of fenbendazole may cause the release of antigens by the dying parasites. This phenomenon may result in either a local or systemic hypersensitive reaction. As with any drug, these reactions should be treated symptomatically.

Safe-Guard Paste 10% has been evaluated for safety in pregnant mares during all stages of gestation with doses as high as 11.4 mg/lb. (25 mg/kg) and in stallions with doses as high as 11.4 mg/lb. (25 mg/kg). No adverse effects on reproductively were detected. The recommended dose for control of 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, 4.6 mg/lb. (10 mg/kg) daily for 5 consecutive days, has not been evaluated for safety in stallions or pregnant mares.

Internal Parasites:
Regular deworming at intervals of 6 to 8 weeks may be required due to the possibility of re-infection.

Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children. When using Safe-Guard Paste 10%, concomitantly with trichlorfon, refer to the manufacturer's label for use and cautions for trichlorfon.

Do not use in horses intended for food.

Just another wormer
Nothing particularly stood out about this wormer to me. The syringe made it very easy to give to the horses. I don't think they loved the taste, but they all took it with no problem at all. I thought it was a little pricey, but some wormers are just more expensive than others.

product for worming goats
I am using this product to worm my goats. It is both a good primary wormer and an alternative wormer. I have had success with it for a number of years. The plastic syringe makes for an easy dosage and application.

Summary is honest
Great product. Never have had any issues with it. The horses take it well although sometimes i might have a grain bucket ready.
November 3, 2015
Good product
Easy to use. Horses don't seem to like the taste but it may be just because it is a different taste.

Paste is paste
Wormer paste is wormer paste. It works, no worms! In the poo. I can't taste it so I don't know its palatablity, but when I squirt it in the horses mouth they seem to not like the taste.

This is a nice rotational wormer to use in-between dosing with other wormers like Zimectrin or Equimax.
JOANNA M on Apr 13, 2015
Ivermectin is great, but it doesn't get roundworms like this wormer does. You have to rotate different chemicals to control the various types of internal parasites.

How much do i give a 30 lbs dog ?
A shopper on Jun 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Google it, there are many variations of safeguard for all animals, could not find a conversion from horse to dog, but you'll probably have to convert from grams to milligrams. Good luck! :-)
Must food be withheld prior to or following worming with Safe-Guard?
Pat M on Aug 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: With or without food, it is still effective. We always give our horses a horse biscuit after, because they were so good taking it. However, if your horse is prone to colic or food allergies of any sort, check with your vet for a better answer from a professional.
how long to deliver 6 horse wormers to Florida ?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It depends on the ship method. Basic/Economy shipping is about 7-10 business days, usually by mail, and Ground service to Florida is about 3-4 business days, by fedEx.
