Product Summary:

STRONGID® C 2X Daily Feed Pelleted Wormer
by Zoetis, formerly Pfizer

Keeping parasite levels under control helps your horse perform at his best. Parasites steal nutrition, energy and good health from your horse. Left unchecked, parasites can cause damage to vital organs, impair growth and performance, and may cause colic. If you live in an area that is known for worms, or your horses are out in dry lots with other equines, STRONGID® C 2X Daily Wormer is not only easy to use but extremely effective. Safe for all horses over the age of three months, this pelleted solution covers a broad spectrum of worms. A daily dose helps break the cycle of parasite infection and prevent larval infestations. It can also be used in larger dosages as a rotational wormer.

Note: Each horse must be fed separately in order to insure proper dosage.

Features:

  • For the prevention of Strongylus vulgaris larval infestation in horses
  • For control of the following parasites in horses: Large Strongyles (adults), Small Strongyles (adults and 4th stage larvae), Cyathostomum spp., Cylicocyclus spp., Cylicostephanus spp., Pinworms, and Ascarids
  • Concentrated formula made of palatable alfalfa/molasses pellets
  • Safe for all ages of horses

Crude Fat (min.): 1.5%

Active Drug Ingredients:
Pyrantel Tartrate – 2.11%

Ingredients:
Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Wheat Middlings, Cane Molasses, Mineral Oil, Preserved with Propionic Acid.

Mixing and Feeding Directions:
STRONGID® C 2X is to be administered on a continuous basis either as a top-dress or mixed in the horse’s daily grain ration at the rate of 1.2 mg pyrantel tartrate per lb. of body weight daily. To achieve this dose, administer 0.5 oz. per 250 lb. of body weight (2 oz. per day for a 1,000 lb. horse). STRONGID® C 2X should be administered for the entire period that the animal is at risk to internal parasites. Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established S. vulgaris larval infestation. Before administering, these animals should be treated with a therapeutic dose of a larvicidal product. Foals may be administered STRONGID® C 2X as soon as consistent intake of grain mix is occurring, generally between 2–3 months of age. STRONGID® C 2X may be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of STRONGID® C 2X.

Caution:
Consult your veterinarian before using in severely debilitated animals and for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment, and control of parasitism. Do not mix in feeds containing bentonite. Not for use in horses intended for food.

CAROL R on Sep 25, 2017
I started my horses on the daily last year because it is much easier and safer for the handler. Also I don't have to remember when it is time to deworm them again. I try to keep things as natural as possible for my horses; no stalls, they have access to pasture 24/7. That is better for socializing my animals. Thanks

have used strongid since it first came on market, had a horse that from a baby would colic about twice a year despite being on a rotational de-worming program. vet told me to try the strongid as he was seeing good results--that horse NEVER had a colic episode again and lived to be 26. put a horse on it and in 30 days you will see a big difference in your horses weight and coat, i promise you

If I purchase the 50 lb of Strongid, why is there a shipping charge when you are offering free shipping?
PAULA S on Oct 21, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The shipping charge will depend on your location.
When you give a one time (gel or paste) dewormer do you stop the Strongid C 2X feed through? IF so for how long? Just that day or longer?
A shopper on Apr 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You generally use one or the other but not both. If you need a paste wormer for bots or some worms not covered by the Strongid C 2X, I would stop the daily dose for a week then give the paste and go back on the daily dose a week later if you need a daily dose. Only horses on a grass pasture or that eat manure getting them reinfected should need the daily dose.
Is this fed continuous through out the year ?
Don L on May 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: For maximum effectiveness, yes. But please do consult with your veterinarian, who will be familiar with your particular horse's entire health picture.
First dosage is the same as all dosage?
Tina H on Nov 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi
Yes first dosage is the same as daily dosage. No loading dose required HOWEVER, they recommend a
Paste wormer before starting on the daily dosage to
Kill/eliminate anything in the intestinal track before starting... I used zimectryn gold prior to start.
how many doses in 10 lb?
BEVERLY L on Apr 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 2 oz. per day; 16 oz to pound; so that would be 8 daily servings per pound; for 10 pound that would be 80 servings if I figured this correctly, or enough for 80 days worth. BTW, I used to use this and had GREAT results; but the last two years my vet is concerned with the worms getting immune to the use of the chemicals in the dewormers. Ask your vet about this; he would most probably be able to shed additional light as to your deworming program.
do you need to take the horse off Strongid Ctx for a month per year and give them Quest + ?
A shopper on Mar 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used the C2X for more than 15 years and I have never taken then off of it, or used any different wormer. I have never had a colic, nor have my horses ever had any sign of worms, even with a fecal check. I do have them on my own pasture and have no horses coming and going. I highly recommend the product. I would however use the advise of your veterinarian.
What is the shelf life of a 50 lb bag once opened?
A shopper on May 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: With proper storage, away from moisture of any sort, should last indefinitely. We fed a number of horses on a regular schedule so really long-term storage was never an issue. The product is fairly stable....kept in an airtight container after opening.
If I have 3 horse all around 1200 lbs. How much of this do I need for a 30 day worming?
Dana L on Jul 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have used this product for many years for my 3 horses that also weigh the same as your 3. I go through 10 pounds a month. Well worth the price for peace of mind. Hope this helped you. Pam
If feeding 2 ounces per day how many days will a 10 lb container last?
A shopper on May 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 10 lbs is 160 ounces. I do know that it is a great product! My horse is a bay and she shines like a copper penny and is dappled. It seems to last a long time. I buy it by the 50lb bag!
How much is needed per day per horse?
A shopper on May 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It depends on body weight. Here are the instructions from the product description:
Mixing and Feeding Directions:
Strongid® C 2X is to be administered on a continuous basis either as a top-dress or mixed in the horse’s daily grain ration at the rate of 1.2 mg pyrantel tartrate per lb. of body weight daily. To achieve this dose, administer 0.5 oz of Strongid® C 2X per 250 lb. of body weight (2 oz. per day for a 1,000 lb. horse). Strongid® C 2X should be administered for the entire period that the animal is at risk to internal parasites. Unprotected animals that have grazed may already have an established S. vulgaris larval infestation. Before administering Strongid® C 2X , these animals should be treated with a therapeutic dose of a larvicidal product. Foals may be administered Strongid® C 2X as soon as consistent intake of grain mix is occurring. This is generally between 2 – 3 months of age. Strongid® C 2X may be used in mares at any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not affected by the use of Strongid® C 2X.
Can you feed Strongid C twice a day, half the dose in each feeding?
forbzilla on Jan 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have never considered feeding it any way other than the way the directions indicate. I think since the dosage is based on the weight of the horse, it should be fed per the direction. I wish I was more help, sorry. I think I would contact the manufacturer and ask them.
What is a therapeutic dose of strongid c 2x?
Tara H on Sep 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't know what would be considered a Therapeutic Dose. I would call Pfizer, the manufacturer of Strongid, and ask them. Or, call a vet and ask. I am assuming they mean the standard dose according to your horses' weight, for a paste wormer or any kind of wormer, that is designed to get rid of the larvae, and then use Strongid C 2x daily, to maintain your horse once any larvae he/ she may have had is gone.
Can you give too much ?
A shopper on Aug 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I would ask your Veterinarian this question but in my own personal experience I have not ever given too much by mistake. You have a handy measuring scoop marked with weight of horse. What you could do is to mark the weight on the side with a marker so whoever is feeding knows where to go on the scoop. I don't think going over by a 100 lbs or so will be terrible. I would not mis-dose often though. It just seems prudent to dose as accurately as you can. To figure the weight of your horse they have tapes. Most arabs weigh in 800 to 900 lbs, QH 1000 to 1200 and ponies 400 to 600. Just my experience. I'd still talk to your vet. This is an outstanding product for colic prevention. We run a bucket through each horse twice a year so not every day .
How much of this daily wormer would I use for an adult miniature horse? And our youngest miniature horse is 9 months old.
Lori M on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It goes by weight. Strongid recommends to administer 0.5 oz per 250 lb. of body weight daily.
